William and Mary Period Jacobean Style Side Chair Early 18th Century. England, Composed of Old Parts Description: This beautiful chair has a gorgeous golden glow to the wood throughout. It features a pierced crest with delicately carved scrolling designs. The crest is joined by two carefully turned pillars that run parallel on either side of the caned back. The pillars turn into the back legs. Which dowel into the frame of the chair before terminating plainly in two squared legs. The frame of the seat is plain undecorated oak, with a partially intact cane seat- the frame is not original to the chair and has been clearly rebuilt. The front legs are turned and shaped. The piece is framed with a turned H Stretcher, with a second turned stretcher running between the back to legs. The patina across the piece is light and even. Due to the rebuilt ... morenature of the chair. It is not a museum quality piece, but is a fine addition for anyone looking for a piece of the early 18th Century reworked for use today. Measurements: 47 3/4" high by 16 1/2" wide by 15 1/2" deep. From the ground to the seat measures 17" Condition: Refinished at one point. Seat is entirely rebuilt. Turnings appear to be later. Turned out of old wood- numerous pegs appear to be new as well. We assume this to be a rebuilt/composed piece, somewhat original but mostly an adjusted decorative piece. Cane is not original, and current caning has damage throughout. Inactive pest damage. Structurally in very fine condition. Repairs throughout. The chair stands on turned bun feet united by a classic"H" stretcher of barley twist form with barley twist front and rear legs, the front legs having a very decorative carved oak stretcher with a pair of winged cherubs supporting a crown and set in acanthus leaf carvings. Rising over this are the carved rails and carved floral decorations to the front panels of the front legs with barley candy twist supports to the arms, above which are the very decorative carved scrolled foliate and acanthus leaf arms with barley twist and floral ... morecarved stiles with acorn turned finials with carved decorations to the centre. The seat has bergere panels set within carved rails to all four sides and the crest rail having a matched wing cherub supporting an arch set within acanthus leaves. A beautiful quality chair. Date: The chair dates circa 1900- 1920. Condition: The bergere seat has been re-caned at some period. The back appearing to retain its original begere cane work, this in very good condition for its age. The chair is in good original condition, retaining its original finish, having good colour and patination, being good and firm of joint. Some of the joints have been dowelled at some period during its history, to firm the chair up, and there is an old repair to the"H" stretcher on the right hand side, as viewed, where the front barley twist section has been re-fitted at the centre, this having been professionally carried out. Up for your consideration is this fantastic antique Solid Oak Barley Twist chair. It has very nice looks and fantastic lines with barley twist in the legs and chair back. New leather upholstery has been applied and is in good condition. The chair is sturdy to sit in. But there is some weary give when pressure is applied to the back rest. Rare "Jacobean Style", Vintage Mexican Prayer/Hall Chair.
The fabric is gold in color and in excellent condition no tears. Stains or rips. The chair itself is sturdy and solid, some of the wood staining is faded as you can see in areas, but is a dark walnut in color. There are some imperfections one on the back of the chair an another down by the front leg. I took several pictures to try and show the overall condition.
