This is a mid 19th C. Boston Rocker" rocking chair that has been appropriately used for a very long time. This yellow painted chair depicts fruit on the top rail with gold and red decoration elsewhere. It is 40"H. 23.5"W, 36"D, with a 14.75" seat height. The rocking chair has the traditional rolling seat, curved arms, and seven thin and concave spindles which support the lower back. There is a crack in the center spindle, but it does not seem to affect the chair's use. There is also slight movement in the legs, but they are not lose. This chair easily supports my 230 lbs, and it is very comfortable. This is a great example of a Boston Rocker and the worn surfaces highlight the chair's comfort and longevity. I don't know it's exact age, but I would guess it's atleast 60-70 years old. The finish is very rustic, a beautiful patina. It's been painted, but it was many years ago because the most of the paint is worn off. From what I can see, there are traces of red, green and white paint. It is in good condition for it's age. But it is missing a piece of wood between the rear legs. still very sturdy. It weighs about 6 lbs. and measures approximately 21" high on the back. 10" high to the seat section, 20" from back to front and 12.5" wide at the widest section of the seat. All original vintage American industrial outdoor folding chair possibly fabricated by or for the Beacon Street Furniture Co. Chicago, IL. The slightly contoured backrest and seat are comprised of wood slats tightly affixed to a heavy gauge riveted joint steel chair frame. The mechanics are in excellent working condition. Cushman Colonial of Vermont among others made chairs similar to these as well as Old Hickory. Remnants of a label is underneath but it's not clear who the maker is. The Adirondack-style frame is stained a warm maple. Two replaced cushions are covered in soft calf hide leather. In the photo's the bottom cushion is pushed too far in. Sorry. They fit beautifully. It actually looks like some time of thin wood.however, we are not positive. Measures approximately 35" from top to bottom. A seat measurement of 14" near the back, and 16" in the front, as the seat is not rectangular. To compliment the chair, all else is. as it was when I got it I would like to learn about the chair the person whom I got it from said it was a very desirable style and I must agree it has something about it that makes it like a piece of art rather than a piece of furniture. there are some reeds that are coming unwound and some wire on one of the arms that I tried to show a couple nails have pushed out some but are still there otherwise the chair appears very solid and feels tight when I move it around to take pics I wouldn't sit in due to its make up but it held the kitten with no problem.

My grandfather and father was both on the Mishawaka Fire Department here in Indiana. This chair was made by prisoners and donated to various city departm ents that could use them. This particular chair was used at the Mishawaka Fire Department for years. And some how came home to my mom and dads house. I have tried to research this chair to find out what its value is. Through my reseach I have found out a little about Indiana Hickory Furniture Company. Which made furniture that looks exactly like this chair. And I think somewhere I seen that they hired prisoners. The chair is still in good solid condition working condition. I believe at some point in time someone stained and varnished ... morethe wood parts because you can see signs of stain on the wicker. There is a patent# on the back and the#11 on the back of the seat(see photo#5) This chair definitely shows wear. Which just adds to its charm. The wood on the seat is scratched, discolored, and has some white paint. There is paint loss on the metal where some child gave this chair it's character.
