These beautiful chairs were originally made to grace the front hallways of ancient manors and castles and were intended for the footman so he did not get to comfortable and fall asleep! This fine example is from the middle to the last half of the 19th century and stands 44" tall x 13 1/2" wide. The seat height is 21 1/2' tall x 12 1/2' deep and 12' wide. It is skillfully carved with a crest, cherubs and scrolls. I believe the wood to be Walnut but it is hard tell because of the dark patina. The seat has been upholstered. Model S1375 produced by Walter Skull& Son between c. 1916- 1937. Ornate carved crest. Sides and stretcher. Barley twist stiles and stretchers. Original label. Records show that Charles Skull(1780â¿1851) was a chair japanner in High Wycombe. He had several children but it was his sons, Edwin(1810â¿1873) and Walter(1816â¿1893) who were to become the best known within the furniture industry of the town. Long before the advent of railways the two brothers were sending chairs by road to London and had a furniture depot in Liverpool, managed by Walter.Walter retired from active chair making ... morein 1884 and on his death, bestowed a thriving business upon his son Charles Edwin. Charles Edwin married Georgiana(pronounced Georjana) Tilbury, quite probably a relation of John Tilbury(but not his daughter) and set up home in High Wycombe at a house called Edgerley or Eversley. He was keen to raise the whole standard of chair design and to make Wycombe famous for a range of fine chairs, far better than the rush-seated and Windsor models that it was already known for. He sought inspiration from authentic antiques and soon established a market for reproduction furniture of quality and craftsmanship. All Charles Edwin's children were given shares in their father's business and enjoyed the company's prosperity. Finding genuine antiques on which to base their designs became a passion for Fred and he eventually decided to break free from the company and set up on his own as an antiques dealer. ANTIQUE ORNATE CARVED WOOD CHINOISERIE SPANISH MISSION ARM CHAIR CACTUS FLOWERS
We are pleased to offer this exceptional. Antique(late 19th or early 20th century) chair. This beautiful, Spanish Mission(also chinoiserie characteristics) arm chair is ornately and generously carved. It features scrolled leaves with cactus blossoms and cactus flowers as focal accents. There are 19 spindles under each arm section as well as 23 spindles on the back. The back of the chair features a scalloped edge. There is also a carved upper border which features a carved outline toward the top of the back. The arms have beautiful, large, carved finials. The legs are faux crossed and curved. There is an abundance of carving on them also. There are 6 curved leg supports that run from front to back. While giving the chair additional support, they add interest to the look as well. The chair retains an older, yet very nice, cushion. It is cotton/linen ... moreand has a beautiful, Spanish flower medallion print. It appears to have been custom made for the chair seat. The chair is heavy is definitely hardwood; oak perhaps, we do not know. It is constructed with nails and flathead(straight) screws. It is in very good condition with very little evidence of use or age. The finish is beautiful and is a medium brown. There are only a few minor scuffs which are not distracting. There is one split that appears to have been glued at some point(see photos) It is holding beautifully but could be filled around the edges. It is located under the right arm just above the seat so it is not visible from the front and does not distract. One of the spindles seems to have been repaired at some point as well. It is only obvious under very close inspection. The chair is extremely sturdy and is, in general, FANTASTIC condition. The chair cushion is also in good condition with no staining, rips, etc. The chair measures as follows: It is 32.75" tall to the top of the back. It is 29.25" wide both at the legs and the over hang just under the seat and is the chair is 25" from front to back. The seat is 16.5" tall. 24" wide and

I purchased two Stickley Bros. chairs that came from the same estate. Unfortunately. The stamp is missing on this one but not the other and the manufacturing details are identical. I cannot prove this is Stickley Bros. but I am certain it is. The two chairs were from the same time. The other, the one with the stamp is the one described as"Quaint Manor" in the following excerpt. This chair has Japanese influences.That was followed in 1914 by“Quaint Manor, featuring slenderized Austrian designs with cane panels and cut-out decorations. It has what appear to be hand carved detail in the front arms of the chair. I am not exactly sure how old this piece is. I am selling it for the person out there that loves to restore old pieces. Antique ornate wooden decortative arm chair, doll chair, display chair, nice
Adorable. Very ornate small chair. Measures 20" tall. 13.5" at widest point and 10" deep. Dark walnut wood with newer fabric. There is some separation within the wood on the back of the chair where the wood dried out due to age. You can see this in picture number 5. Also the front leg is slightly pulling away but this can be easily fixed with wood glue if you choose to fix it. You can see this in picture number 6. The chair works perfectly and is very secure. Overall this is a sturdy and very pretty little chair. Perfect for a doll or just to put in the corner and admire. Grab this up before it's gone. Please note. I ship to the United States only. This is a gorgeous and comfortable barley twist walnut?wood chair covered in a sage green olefin?fabric. It has a ornate wood design and I think this is a 1940's-50's. Those who know wood and time periods will know for sure and please correct me if I am wrong in the time line. It measures 39 1/2" H x 20" W x 19" D and is in excellent condition. The fabric is in beautiful condition and there is the old type nail/tacks in place. It has silver stud tacks on the bottom of each leg and the wood is clear and thick. The chair is sturdy and comfy. It measures 38.5 inches tall with a widest width of 27 inches and depth of almost 27 inches and a cushion height from the floor of 14 inches. ... moreHere's what I stated about this gorgeous ornate chair's condition: Paint worn down due to great age and shows wood underneath in spots. Scratches and scuff marks as is normal for antique wear. Cushion is soft and chair is made so you sit low and your feet can touch the ground easily. Very heavy. Dense wood that I believe is mahogany. All marquetry parquetry wood pinwheels are intact, except on the back bottom side rail where I substituted ornate cones in place of where the missing pinwheels would have been. Upholstery fabric is odor free but lightly soiled in certain spots which could be cleaned up, and the fabric is a bit worn with age as is normal, but otherwise presentable and usable for this beautiful chair. Very strong, sturdy, and stable and able to withstand significant weight. Truly a unique and rare chair of exceptional beauty and artistry. So you may want to grab it quick, before it is gone! All of the joints are tight& secure, there is a defect in the right ear of the chair back(examine photo) I feel this was done at time of manufacture due to the damage is stained and sealed in the same manner as the rest of the chair and with the cost of making them they didn't want to throw anything away. Antique Original Empire Mahogany North Wind Face Saddle Seat Ornate Chair
I have had this chair for quite awhile. But really know very little about it. I liked the look so I purchased it at an Estate sale. They said it was there Mother's and a children they were afraid of it. I would guess they were in there 60's at the time I got it. I am guessing the age to be early 1900's. It is in very good condition for its age. Solid to sit in with a little age wear and minor scratches but that's it and all is original I find no repairs. It measures about 23 1/2" W x 34 1/2" H and the seat height is 15 3/4" I am a newer seller to eBay but not to collecting. As a senior my new motto is Live with what you LOVE and get rid of the rest. CHAIR dark wooden ornate
Old dark wooden chair. Excellent condition. Very sturdy for small to average adult. Not sure on history. Found in mom's garage rafters. Bottom of chair something is written. But can't make out all the name- Original from General Yaw. maybe one of you have better luck figuring out what is written under seat. Material on seat excellent condition. No tears, stains or wear.
