It measures 25 1/4" high. 21" long rocking legs, 14" long arms with a 12" square seat. The seat cover now is a green velour fabric. Originally there was a leather cover for the seat. Under the seat fabric is a newer piece of wood for its bottom. There is a crack in the back of the chair that is shown in the last photo which does not go all the way through to the front. An early 1900's,4 slat rear mission style solid oak rocking chair. i am not sure if this is a gustav stickley or a piece from another similar manufacturer of the time. The seat is heavy and obviously reupholstered in the native indian motif. This rocker is solid with no loose pieces whatsoever. It does have have some knicks and scratches from use, and will need a good cleaning with some murphys soap, but overall a super fine example. Please ask any and all questions before bidding. This rare Stickley chair was made when the Stickley brothers worked together in Grand Rapids Michigan. It was made with a quarter saw method of oak wood. This chair is rare not only because of it's label. But also because of it's four slats and one of those slats is wider than the others.This is a very simple design without any slats on the arms. I have had this in my possession for about 20 years and do not have the original cushion but it is easy to place a piece of wood inside and add any pillow or cushion of your choice. This auction is for a Morris chair in the mission or arts& crafts style. I found this at a moving sale. So I don't know much about it. It reclines with a spring mechanism. The spring is very tight and snaps back quickly. There are castors that appear to be made of wood. One falls out every time I pick up the chair. There are some scratches and dings, a few small paint spots. There is a lighter spot on the arm where the price tag was. Overall, however, it is a beautiful piece of American furniture in lovely oak. It shows its age in some areas, but is still very sturdy and a work of conscientious craftsmanship. The only mark I see is the number 501 on a slat on the bottom of the seat. these have been re-upholstered and refinished. my friend got these from her great-grandfather. I think the couch opens up into something.But I'm not sure how it works. Stickley Mission Style Antique Reclining Rocking Chair Arts and Crafts Oak
Thank you for inspecting this antique(and VERY comfortable) mission style rocking chair! It is solid. Quarter sawn oak with 4 reclining settings. The reclining set-up is an elegant, patinaed metal rod and 4 hook brace(I believe made of cast iron) The oak frame has 3 repairable flaws. There is a slight crack(1/2” long) in one of the back support slats. In the same section there is a 1” crack in the back by the hinge. By the other back hinge there is a section that has old wood putty filler. These have all been photographed. I could easily fix them but since I am not an expert in antique furniture repair I did not know if my repair would reduce the collectability of this piece and so I thought I’d leave these repairs up to the buyer. Spring cushioned support that sits on the frame below the seat cushion. I rescued this rocking chair from a garage sale. Destined to go to garbage. It had a leather spring cushion and back that smelled so awful that I HAD to remove. I added a platform seat. Antique 1905 Stickley Oak& Leather Mission Style Rocking Chair- ALL ORIGINAL! This is a beauty! Stickley 1905- 1908 rocking chair- all ORIGINAL. The leather is beautifully worn in- no rips or tears. I would say. The leather is stiff and dry. It is cracking in some areas. Especially the back of the leather on the back rest cushion. The seat is the most supple. The rest of the leather is not supple. Could use some leather conditioning. I left everything the way it is. I don't want to do any damage. One of the leather straps on top that hold the leather cushion in place. That goes over the top of the chair, is nearly torn all the way. I would not put the leather strap over the back and side down. I would be worried the strap would rip. BEAUTIFUL chair- great condition. Especially considering the age. The oak wood is also original excellent ... morecondition- has some small nicks here and there. But overall excellent! This has not been refinished. This Stickley rocker is a rare find! Seat is constructed in 3 pieces joined together. Rabbet/dado joint? The pieces now have gaps between them. Wonderful Gothic/Library/Bishop's Chair/ Poss. Mission style- good condition
Antique Gothic/ Library/ Bishop's Chair- Possibly Mission style- made of Oak I bought this from a Mission in San Juan Capistrano. Ca. that was auctioning off a number of their antiques back in the 70's. It is oak and has the original seat. I had an off white cover on it originally. It certainly can be recovered. The design is rather straight forward. Due to its design and proportion, it suggests an antique Bishop's chair in a Mission style. It is in good condition. I do see a small nick the right side of the front right arm. Dimensions: Back of chair: 48 1/2" Seat is wider in front: 22' gradually tapering to 20" Seat height: 19 1/4" from floor. Antique 1912- 1914 Stickley Oak& Leather Mission Style Rocking Chair- ALL ORIGINAL! This is a beauty! Stickley 1912- 1914 rocking chair- all ORIGINAL. The leather is beautifully worn in- no rips or tears. I would say. The leather is stiff and dry. It is cracking in some areas. Especially the back of the leather on the back rest cushion. The seat is the most supple. The rest of the leather is not supple. Could use some leather conditioning. I left everything the way it is. I don't want to do any damage. One of the leather straps on top that hold the leather cushion in place. That goes over the top of the chair, is nearly torn all the way. I would not put the leather strap over the back and side down. I would be worried the strap would rip. BEAUTIFUL chair- great condition. Especially considering the age. The oak wood is also original ... moreexcellent condition- has some small nicks here and there. But overall excellent! This has not been refinished. This Stickley rocker is a rare find! The worn leather is awesome- hard to believe it is over 100 years old! Would be great in a home or office- such a classic look! If you would like more close up pics or have more questions. Feel free to ask. This would be for pick up. I wouldn't even know where to begin to ship this. As long as you pay. I could hold it for a couple weeks. We can work something out.
