Charming antique child's or youth's oak spindle back chair made by Heywood Brothers& Wakefield Furniture Company with turned legs and spindles and a cut out handle on the top of the back for ease of moving and carrying and what seems to be the original cane seat. Although we placed this listing under furniture from 1800-1899 we are not really sure of its age and it is possible it was made in the early 1900s. The company name on the label under the seat would date this chair to anywhere between 1897 and 1921(when the name was changed slightly and the"brothers" dropped) Heywood-Wakefield makes very good quality furniture and has been around since 1826(Heywood) and 1855(Wakefield) The two companies made similar types of furniture and merged in 1897. These sweet chairs add great charm and warmth to your bathroom or guest bathroom and are wonderful substitutes for where one might place a small table on which to rest a clean towel! The chair is very sturdy with no loose joints; however. The cane seat has one break(see close up photo) which over time, if used as a seat, would probably cause more of the caning to become loose and break. Large Ornate Antique Heywood-Wakefield Victorian/Edwardian Wicker Rocker c. 1900
Valued eBay Customers: T his item is FOR LOCAL PICK-UP ONLY- NO SHIPPING. Offered is an antique. Wicker rocker from Heywood-Wakefied. It is circa 1900 and had its original tag. It measures about 38" tall. 27" wide at the widest spot(arms) and 34" deep(length of rocker runners) It is dark walnut brown in color. Rocker runners are made of bird's eye maple. Original Heywood-Wakefield tag is still on the back of the seat(see photo) CONDITION: The chair is in great. Overall, antique condition. As an item that is over 100 years old, it does have some condition issues that I will go over here. T he chair had some damage to the seat which was repaired by an antiques refinishing and repair professional that I have trusted for years to work on my antique furniture. This damage included a split in the back of the seat which was repaired ... morewith epoxy and filled. It has had the caning in the seat replaced and colored to blend with the rest of the chair. The right arm was also loose at the base of the seat and has been reset firmly into place with epoxy. In fact. It is even more solid that the other arm which has some slight movement if you wiggle it, but is secure. The repaired arm does have some missing cane at the bottom, but does not detract greatly in my opinion and could be repaired if you wish. There is no other broken or missing whicker which is amazing for a large piece of this vintage. There is a bit of wood missing underneath on a leg where one rung is glued in but cannot be seen unless you turn the chair over. The entire piece has been refinished. Please see photos for pictures of the condition items discussed. Note: While this rocker is structurally sound. I would recommend that its delicate, antique nature be taken into consideration when used. It may not support larger people or rough usage. We are a smoke-free. Adult only environment. They have been called"King and Queen" chairs. These pieces are in terrific condition considering they are probably at least 110 years old. Here are the stats: Queen Chair- Smaller of the Two: 32.5" tall. The seat is 16" in diameter, the back is about 14" wide. The thick curlique at the top of the back is cracked through, you can see how this could happen as the tendency is to grab the chair by the center top of the back and the leverage would cause a break. This is easily repaired. Otherwise no damage that I can discern. King Chair- Larger of the Two: 41" tall.15" wide, 16" diameter seat. This piece has a bit more damage than the other. The top ... moreof both vertical support pieces has damage to the wrapped material- please see the photos. The lattice on one side beneath the seat needs to be repaired/secured in two places but all the material is there. Overall. These pieces are in very good condition for their age. This is a wonderful old labeled and signed Heywood Wakefield desk chair. It appears to be constructed of a combination of maple in the legs. Seat, and arms, with the balance of the spindles and bent parts being ash. It has a rich dark golden brown finish that is all original and unrepaired and unretouched. This chair is in very good condition, still very tight and sturdy, and an absolute delight to sit down in- the most comfortable wooden chair I personally have ever sat down in. This chair has belonged to my 96-year-old father since it was inherited by him from an elderly cousin 18 years ago. We suspect that it may have been purchased new by her, as she worked at Famous Barr in St. Louis in the 1930's& 40's. The original label is still attached to the underside(see photos) Along with the model and sequential build number(we think) ... morewritten in yellow. There is also a signature in white(see photos) on the bottom of the seat near the label that we believe to be original to the manufacturing of the chair. They made some theater benches and workers benches, but i have not seen another church pew by this Boston company. 2 sears. Fold up. Each seat had a pew or bible holder under the seat. The one seat also has a wood holder on it's back. Overall good condition for its age. The back rests appear to be a laminate wood and have some warping. Could be restored with care. Being offered for sale. Is an old Heywood Wakefield chair. It is sturdy and is in good condition. I'm unsure of what type of fabric is on the seat. It's a really nice looking chair but to be honest it has a very hard seat. I expected it to be well cushioned when I first sat on it but it is rather stiff. This is a rare Heywood Brothers and Wakefield Co. Lady's Victorian Reception Chair. This chair is in good condition. It has very ornate braid work that is in excellent condition. The only negative point is on the seat where it looks like a sealer was used to hold the reeds together(see pic) previous to my ownership there was a wooden base put under the seat and is not original. see pics)and the leg wraps are in need of attention. Up for your consideration today is a pair of Antique solid wood dining/ office/ school/ chairs. They were made by Heywood Brothers and Wakefield Company. The original red tag is on the bottom. This tag dates these chairs from 1897 to 1921. In 1921 the name of the company formally changed to Heywood Wakefield. According to Wikipedia. These chairs are very sturdy in construction,and do show some wear. They are in great Antique Condition. Ask any questions you may have prior to bidding.
