They have some scratches in the wood and do need to be sturdier up with the canvas seats, they are not strong enough to hold a persons weight, Sold as is. The wood structure is fine and sturdy, just the canvas needs to be attached better or replaced, I think the cloth canvas is rotten from age. The chair is wood with a high slatted back. The chair features a large medallion in the top center of the back. A gesso style, painted lion with fleur de lis crest is inside the medallion section. The lion crest is black and the background paint is a burnt red. The balance of the chair is painted a dark olive green with brown undertones. Golden brown is used on the spherical sections of the turned wood spindles and legs. We sanded down the vintage wire seats and sprayed them with a satin black enamel paint. 1 chair has 3 welds on each side at the bend. They look like re-inforcement welds not repairs. 2 chair has 6 welds/repairs at the back of the seat where it meets the base. 1 chair we bought"as is" 2 chair we had our metal tech re-weld the breaks. Offered is this fantastic pair of art deco modernist wrought iron garden or patio sling lounge chairs. Heavy bar stock rod iron with open and airy design. Sweeping arm rests and legs. These are probably European if I had to guess French in origin probably late 20's to 30's vintage. All hand made welded and wrought with original black patinated finish. The original upholstery or canvas slings are missing. You have to have a bit of an imagination to visualize what these chairs once looked like. The front stretchers have four holes tapped and the top stretcher has an extra bar that is removable to run or attach a hemmed upholstered sling. I have only ever seen one other with this design during all the years I have been buying bentwood. Made by Fischel in Czechosolovakia. They are both stamped underneath and one has the remains of the label. Such wonderful chairs. Such a statement piece and very unusual. Nice quality and in good condition for age. There are of course some signs of age such as the odd mark or some discolouration and the odd scuff/scratch which you would expect but nothing serious and they seem sturdy enough. 1930s Emil I. Paider Children's Barber Chair w/wooden horse head original paint
1930s Emil I. Paider Barber Chair for children with wooden horse head original paint This classic piece of Americana stand about 43" tall. Is 32" from the back of the chair to the horse's nose and measures about 20.5" wide.19" diameter base. It was made by the Emil J. Paidar company out of Chicago, and any cool barber shop in that era had one. It is fitted with a wooden horse's head, I actually remember one in Detroit when I was a boy in the 50s and would only get my hair cut if I could sit on that chair… the whole point actually) that still has its original paint, although the horsey's chin is missing. In the original there was a metal ring that went through his mouth to which they would strap leather reins for the child to pretend to be the Lone Ranger(or Tonto) while getting his haircut. Evidently, so I'm ... moretold, these chins would snap off with continued stress place on them from the kids jumping down from the chair. He also has a small chip off his ear that not noticeable. The chair has upholstered leather seat(with a couple tiny nicks) and back and has the same leather covering the outside back of the chair. The enamel armrests and base and body are in very good condition, as is the leather. It has been on display in my home for the last 22 years. One of the metal brackets at the front of the left armrest has a tip missing. Other than that, this chair is a beautiful addition to any beauty salon, barber shop, man cave, family room or cool office. The hydraulic lever on the side allows for the raising, lowering and swiveling. The original paint graces the scalloped collar around the horse's neck with delicate carving of the eyes, the harness and mane. I've seen restored similar ones for twice this price, and frankly the bright paint and glossy sheen loses the charm of weathered wood, IMHO. This is our LAST stack! These chairs dotted the sidewalks of cafes and outdoor bistros across Europe during the 1940's. Their industrial design was meant to endure the elements of weather. Including the holes in the seat bottoms that allow water drainage. They retain their original green paint and have been sealed to protect the beautiful finish for indoor or outdoor use. These would pair so nice with a large farm table! The chairs are steel and weigh approximately 8lbs each and can be easily stacked and stored into one tower.
