The front has deeply scrolled cabriole legs, each fitted with a leaf-shaped shelf, with a shaped lower shelf. The skirt has a carved shell cartouche. The top is of white statuary marble with nice bevelled curves. The American Rococo Revival style furniture such as this étagère pier table were often found in homes of the Antebellum era. This is a handsome and monumental piece. With the emphasis on graceful line.The leaf-shaped lower shelves are characteristic of New York etageres, which would have been echoed in the multi-shelf arrangement above.
