Up for bid are 5 frames. 1 bubble glass and 1 painting. Two of the frames are marked Chicago Portrait Company, the other three are not marked. All five frames have some chipping, discoloring, small cracks, need some handy work. The one frame has a bubble glass, and the painting fits in that frame. The glass is in good shape, very tiny chips around the edge, can't be seen when in the frame. The painting is in rough shape, looks ok in the frame with the convex bubble glass. Antique Chicago Portrait Co NYC Statue Liberty Reverse Painting Bubble Frame
Up for auction is a very cool old antique patriotic reverse painting of the Statue of Liberty with the New York City skyline behind her and a brushed sky with the American flag. Painted on convex bubble glass and housed in a black and gold wood frame with raised baroque ornamentation. Metallic gold foil accents underneath the painting. Made by the Chicago Portrait Company circa 1917. In very good condition with a few small chips. Light surface wear and crazing to the frame. The area around the Statue of Liberty has a few small chips and light cloudiness to the paint. Overall very good. Colors are nice and bright with no fading. Please see photos carefully for details. The frame measures 16 1/4" top to bottom and 10 1/4" wide. The man whose name. Paul E. Trotter, appears on a copper dedication plaque on back, must have been very special to someone. The photograph was hand colored in 1926. The frame and photo are still in excellent condition. This may be attributed to its having been hung instead of placed on a flat surface. Putting it in harm's way. The curved glass extends all the way to the edges under the decorative metal. With a solid golden color giving it a very nice mat effect. The pictures tell the story on this piece-better than I can.
