I have been asked to sell 5 large antique picture frames(with their pictures) from a home nearby. The elderly folks have no children and want these frames to go to someone that will appreciate them. The other 4 frames are Big and Fancy with curved glass-this one has flat glass. I have no clue as to how the wood was made to look like tiger wood-is it painted-some special process-help me out here please. UNUSUAL ANTIQUE MEMORIAL PICTURE FRAME 1880s 20" X 32" ORIG. GLASS
This picture frame hung in my great great grandmother's parlor with a picture of her infant who was born and died in 1888 at 7 months age. The first picture shows the memorial dove and poem. It has been stored all these years since. And it is time to pass it on to someone else who would like it. Measuring 20" x 32" it can hang either way-vertically or horizontally. The original glass is included. The glass size is 14"x 26" It is wavy, as I hope you can see from my pictures. There are two round hooks for picture wire, as shown in one the photos. The frame is about 2" deep slanting from the back to the front. The face of the face is 3-1/2" wide. It has never been painted over or touched up in any way. VINTAGE BEVEL GLASS FRAME ORIG. VELVET BACKING w/ ORIG. MILITARY PHOTO 1940-50's
VINTAGE BEVEL GLASS FRAME WITH ORIGINAL CONTENTS– A PHOTOGRAPH OF A MILITARY OFFICER IN UNIFORM– frame and photo are circa 1940– 1950’s. The photo is black and white. Professionally done, with good shadows and accents around the facial area. No studio name on the photo. But may be on the back of the photo under the backing. The military officer has an overcoat and hat on in the photo– some type of insignia on the hat that would identify the military branch. The frame is a large solid piece of glass with bevel edges. The glass panel is almost 1/4 inch thick. The frame and contents weigh over 6 pounds before any packing materials. To give you an idea how heavy the frame is. The back of the frame is the original velvet backing. Burgundy but uniformly faded, with the original easel stand, with a slight bend out at the bottom from standing on ... morea table all these years– see photo– still stands firmly on a table. Would certainly be a conversation piece standing in a room– people would want to know who it is– looks good enough to be a movie actor! The frame is made only of one large piece of glass with a thick velvet backing. No chips that I can see or feel in the glass. A very little bit of superficial scratching on some of the edges. Only from handling. The photograph– original to the frame– is placed under the glass and is held in place by 4 screws that go from front to back. My pictures are not really good– too much glare on some of them– difficult to get the full effect of the clear glass. The lines across the glass are reflection. And the lightness at the bottom of the photo is only from glare. Outer measurements of the frame are 14 ¼ inches by 17 ¼ inches. Size for the photo and the backing is 10 ¼ inches by 13 ¼ inches. ALL SALES FINAL. I am selling items that have some age to them. Naturally there will be irregularities and flaws. Just because of the age. Description This wonderful Victorian frame stands 11" tall by 7" wide. And holds a picture 7" by 5. It is made from ebonized wood with carved patterning which is white and gold and reflects the aesthetic movement with an added oriental flair. The frame still has its original matting which is flocked or velvet in a mottled design. Once purple in color, it is now a warm brown and still lovely. The bezel around the picture is has tiny gold flecks. The back of the frame has an easel stand made from wire attached to black cardboard. It has either been shortened or came from another frame. Mat and wood backing. I am not sure if the glass is original because I don't see any of the typical imperfections of old glass. The frame is in excellent condition with the exception of an area on the side near the back where the frame was evidently bumped and chipped. The piece is still there, but you can see the edge around it in the next to last picture where it doesn't fit back in perfectly. I honestly didn't notice it until I started inspecting the frame, but there is a tiny chip out of it. Other than that, there are ... morelittle gaps where the pieces of wood in the frame come together, as shown in the pictures. This can be tightened, but many people choose to use the frame in the antique condition with the gaps. The original backboard is in two pieces. It was originally held to the frame with nails along the edge, but most of those nails are gone, so it will need some new ones. I put some tape on the backing to hold it in place for now. Overall the frame is in excellent condition and displays beautifully. The outside dimensions are 11-3/8" wide by 13-1/2" long. Without the mat, the opening is 6-3/4" by 8-3/4" WIth the mat, the opening is perfect for a 5" by 7" picture or print. This item is fresh out of a local basement where it was stored for years! I don't recall seeing one like this before! Overall. The piece is about 12 x 16 and does have some chipping, wear, and touchups to some chipped areas. One of the small brass half metal pieces is missing in the u/r. The piece still displays just well as it is. The decorative picture frames flip up. I'm not sure if there was wire holding them at one time like a magazine rack that would hang on a wall. This is a silver picture/photo frame made in 1910(please see the hallmark and date mark on the rim in the photos) It is marked: E. M. S. Which refers to E. Mander& Son, silversmiths of Birmingham, England, who are well-known, particularly for their accessories, boxes, and frames. There are 4 very small pin-prick-sized dents-two at the bottom and two at the top of the frame. The materials are all original-the brown and green leather back and the interior green cloth. Probably a vintage copy of a Victorian print. The print is in good condition. No tears, no stains, no fading. The print is not matted– mounted on cardboard with fabric trim around the outside of the print. The antique walnut frame is in good condition– original gold tone liner and original matte finish on the walnut. Curved walnut molding for the frame. The color of the walnut is better than it looks in my pictures– some of my pictures make it look too dark– pictures of corners are a more accurate color. Outer measurements of the frame are 18 inches by 22 inches. Measured from the back. Has old glass and cardboard backing. Frame molding is 1 ¼ inches deep from the side. Frame ... morewith glass and print weighs about 6 pounds before any packing materials. Opening size for the glass and contents is 13 ¾ inches by just less 18 inches. 19TH CENTURY ANTIQUE VICTORIAN LARGE(over 2 feet long/tall) TIGER-STRIPED BEVELED WOOD OVAL PORTRAIT FRAME with flat ORIGINAL'WAVY' GLASS FRONT. The wire hanger on back is well attached and ready for hanging(see pics) Frame is circa late 19th century, an antique wood frame in oval shape with tiger-striped surfaces. has antique glass with a'wavy' appearance(looks wavy when viewed from a side angle as does antique glass from this period) glass appears to be original to frame. Wood frame is beveled in shape(see pics) and is in very good condition with no repairs, has some wear and abrasions/scuff marks, has a few very small cracks-no large cracks and no chips, very good useable condition-tight and intact. The glass is flat, it has has no large chips-has only at edges flea bites or several small edge chips along edges only(see ... morepics) nails are holding glass in place, glass has no cracks or deep scratches, there is a glass inclusions which is a tiny raised area of glass looks like a tiny raised dot above surface, some tiny striated bubbles intrinsic in glass-all commensurate with age and glass.
