Antique Victorian Picture Photo Frame Griffin Heraldic Lion Wood Wooden 4.75x8
This is a beautiful antique wooden frame that likely dates from the Victorian Era. On the front is carved what appears to be a griffin or heraldic lion; it is quite ornate and aesthetically pleasing. It will hold photos that are up to 8 1/8" tall and 4.75" wide. The photo is inserted into a slit on the top. It is 6 3/8" from the bottom of the photo"drop" to the top of the viewer frame. Which means if the photo is 6 3/8" high it will reach the top of the viewer frame. It can be up to 8 1/8" high and still be held behind the wood. The frame opening is about 3 5/8" x 5 3/8" The entire frame is 8"x10" Some of the hardware on the back looks to have been added later. The frame has some wear from handling and use. It is structurally sound, but on one side the pieces of wood are separating(see ... morephoto) Again, though, it is structurally sound. This would make an ideal decor item. Antique Wood Picture Frame - Including Photo Dated 1851 & Story Dated 1839
This auction is for a beautiful old wood frame measuring approximately 7" wide x 10 1/4" high. I am selling this item primarily for the frame but the paperwork that someone put in the frame is also interesting and I am including this material. As you can see by the photos the wood is very nice looking. It does have nicks and chips that I have tried to show in the photos. But these minor flaws do not take away from the beauty of the frame. And you can see from the back of the frame it is quite old. The frame has a hanging hook attached to it. The Harpers article and picture in the frame are dated January, 1851. The article in the envelope, attached to the back, is dated Aug. 24, 1839. The subject of the articles is Robert Southey. Please ask any question you may have. This is an antique OVAL WOODEN PICTURE FRAME with gilt inset and the outer ring is lined with beaded gilt. The frame measures 14 1/4" X 12 1/4" and the picture size is 8" X 10" and is 1 1/4" deep. The frame has scratches in the surface and a small area(about a half inch) where the beading has come off on the outer edge near the bottom of the frame. The gilting on the inset area has 3 cracks in it. The photo is that of a woman sitting. There is one area where there is a red cushion she is setting her right arm on.
