It has a stunning ornate whimsical design. With two Cherub- Angels blowing a horn. Paisley, and flowers, giving the mirror a Mid Century Hollywood Regence Flair. The oval glass is in very good condition, however I do see a very small scratch in the left corner about 1/4" One must really look to see. The gold frame is in good condition, however the outside edges has lost some of the gold finish. This by know means takes away from the beauty of the mirror. Nothing major. Just thought I would mention it. There are two hooks on the back for easy hang. Please see photo's. Large Late 19th Century GOLD GILDED GESSO On WOOD Frame SUPERIOR SHAPE
The beautiful and ornate antique frame came with a painting in it. And the stretcher corner braces are marked"PAT Feb 13, 1883, June 16, 1885, A.D.S. which gives a very accurate date for this frames creation! The frame is solid and in remarkable condition for one of this age, with very minor damage to the gesso and some corner baldness(see photos 2,3, and 4 for examples! Approx. 50.75" X 46.75" with each side being 4 3/8" wide, it will accommodate a 42.25" X 38" canvas! I am selling the painting separately, partly because this frame is too large to fit in my car, so I hope to sell it for local pick-up! BEAUTIFUL VINTAGE WOOD FRAME FLORAL CARVED AND GILDED IN GOOD CONDITION- OUTSIDE MEASUREMENTS from the front corners are 11 ¼ INCHES by 13 ¼ INCHES. MEASURED FROM THE FRONT) Frame is circa 1940’s. Maybe earlier. Frame is wood with applied gesso carving. Gold tone finish is almost like a glaze. With a dark background contrast that really emphasizes the floral carving. Original gold gilt on the frame. Condition is good– no pieces of the gesso carving missing. Frame has glass(opening for the glass is 8 inches by 10 inches) and old wood backing. A few remnants of paper covering that must have been on the back. The frame could be used vertically or horizontally. The opening on the back of the frame that holds the glass and backing is almost 3/4 of an inch deep– deep enough to hold a wood stretcher if you wanted to put a painting in the ... moreframe. Frame is almost 1 inch deep. Measured from the outside. Some discolorations to the gold tone finish on the outside edges, not visible from the front. see photo) Details: Corners don’t wiggle– the frame is tight. The frame has glass and old wood backing. Oval, gilded wood picture frame with gesso ornaments, was hand made in the"FRAMES and LOOKING GLASSES" workshop of APC Bonte in Cincinnati, Ohio in the second half of the nineteenth century. Part of the original label is still can be seen on the back. I do not know if the picture of a mother and her son in the 9 1/2" opening is also a period antique, but I am positive that the black touch-ups on it were not made by Photoshop or Corel Draw. The frame and the picture is in very good to excellent condition, but the gesso decoration was shaved off from the outer rim of the frame for some times ago. I am not sure if it is gold leaf. But gently wiped it off, just in case. There is some red under one of the small scuffs. So it might be gold leaf. I have had it a long time. And it is really lovely, but we really need to downsize. It has a few small scuffs. And a little darker on about 1/2 side of one frame side. Gently used and it doesn't include glass. Up for auction is a lovely antique gilded molded gesso Eastlake frame. American, dated to the early 1900s. This frame has been in my family for ages and I've had it in my clean, non-smoking home for about 15 years. As I've downsized, I no longer have the wall space for it. This is very heavy(weighs 18#6 oz prior to boxing) I am not a frame expert. Just always thought it was beautiful. Looks like authentic(not'fake' gold leaf/gilding. I read that these carved wood frames also have plaster/gesso, which this looks to by the photos. The interior dimension(the'shelf' that holds the painting) is 19" x 13.5" so you would lose about.5 inch from that in the viewable area. The external dimension is 30.5" x 25" The carvings project/protrude approx 3.5" depth) It would be ideal if you could pick it up. It looks to be carved with the details added, I don't know if they are wood or a gesso/composite, all very solid, nothing is loose or chippy.
