Deities& Satsuma mon, done with a lot of heavy gold moriage. It is marked Made In Japan, making it from the 1921- 1945 period. Only some very minor wear. Good condition for it's age. Very sorry for the pictures, camera was not working properly, the lighter pictures was taken with flash, they look more like the dark pictures. Hand painted, porcelain Japanese Kutani Satsuma Cup and Saucer with the Shimazu Family Crest signature from the early 20 th century and is referred to as"Umezume" Satsuma. It is decorated with a gold background and elaborate Moriage floral decoration. The floral designs are like little flowers with white enameling for petals. The centers of the flowers are painted gold with miniature gold dots applied on top. There are leaves that have a rust color to them and they are outlined with a gold stenciling effect. The rims and handle are also done in gold. The detail is absolutely incredible and it is hard to imagine the time and talent needed to produce these pieces. The top symbol of the back stamp ... moreis the Shimazu Family Crest. The second symbol is Satsuma and the last character is abbreviated. This back stamp signature can be seen on the Gotheborg.com website under Satsuma and signature 367. This set would date to the early 20 th century. The condition is excellent. There are no chips. Japanese satsuma cup and saucer is decorated with birds and bamboo with extensive gold detailing. Cup measures 2" tall and 3 1/8" across and saucer measures 5 3/8" across. Both pieces are in good condition with no chips or cracks. The saucer has paint wear to the trim and the cup has a small gold bump of extra slip or clay on bottom rim of saucer from manufacture. Also. Part of signature on saucer is rubbed off from wear, but cup signature is intact. There is some darkening to the set not uncommon for this type of satsuma pottery. Some white spots are glare. Antique,Satsuma,Shimazu?, Cup and Saucer, with Hand Painted Decoration
Lovely. Old, Satsuma, 3-5/8" diameter x 1-7/8" cup and 5-5/8" diameter saucer, with intricate figural and geometric decoration and gold detailing. The marks on the cup and saucer differ slightly. The one on the saucer(last image above) looks very much like the Shimazu family crest. Cannot explain the reason for the difference, as this is a matching set. No chips or cracks. The decoration is in very fine condition. There is a very fine crazing to the glaze inside and on the base of the cup. As well as on the underside of the saucer. Look at the third image. inside the cup. There is a line of lighter discoloration. Do not know if this can be remedied without damaging the three figures in the bottom, which are in fine condition. I can find NO wear to the gold and there are no chips, cracks, or repairs. Both signed with impressed Taizan(帯山) ITEM DATING: Meiji era. Circa 1875-1894. ITEM MEASUREMENTS(Approximate) Cup: 2.5"H x 3.75"L(with handle) x 2-7/8"D Opening x 1.5"Base Diameter.
