Vintage 1950s Japanese "Geisha Girl" or Lithophane Bone China Tea Cup and Saucer
Japanese"Geisha Girl" or Lithophane Mark porcelain Tea Cup and Saucer Offered for sale is this vintage 1950’s miniature tea cup from the owner’s mother. The saucer shows Mount Fuji. A Japanese tea house and Pagoda. The cup repeats the scene with 2 small sailboats on a lake. There are no cracks. Chips or scratches that we could detect. The items are hand-painted and on the top of the handle is a small black line where the craftsperson didn’t quite cover the undercoat with gilding(see photo) Dimensions are: Saucer 3.75” Diameter. Cup 2.5” Diameter, total Hight 2” Below is what we found on the internet about this piece. This porcelain is well known and most often called"Geisha" or"Geisha girl" Porcelain. It is Japanese and my guess is that it is made at the Arita factory specifically for the Western market during ... morethe first decades of the 20 th Century up until the 1940's. Some sources indicate that porcelain with this mark could have been in production as late as in the 1960's. The inspiration for the Japanese"geisha girl" lithophane mark seems more than likely have come to Japan during their early contacts with the West around the turn of the 19th century. All kinds of decorative pieces. Probably mostly lanterns was made in this technique in Europe, with its popularity reaching its peak in the 1870's after which point they gradually went out of fashion. Originally. This technique seems to have been developed by the Koenigliche Porzellan Manufaktur(KPM) of Berlin in the 1820's and later patented in England, by Robert Griffith Jones in 1828. Japanese Lithophane Picture of Geisha Tea Cup Saucer Set - White With Gold Trim
Up for auction/sale is a lithophane very delicate Japanese tea(demitasse size) cup and saucer. The set is used. And the gold trim around the rim of the cup has some wear. Please see the photos to assess the condition of both the cup and saucer. There are no chips, cracks, or repairs. The cup is very dainty, and as you can see in the photos, translucent. The saucer is 4 1/4" in diameter. The cup is 2 1/4" tall, and a little over 2" in diameter. Together they weigh 2.8 oz. Antique Hand Painted Japanese Satsuma Kutani Porcelain Geisha Tea Cup-Near Mint!
Beautiful near perfect porcelain Satsuma cup. The pattern is Mother/Son according to the Geisha Girl Encyclopedia. The rim and face of the cup are in perfect condition with no chips or wear. The gold detail is spectacular. Signed. In Japanese, in gold over red on the bottom. There is a small chip-let in the foot of the cup that I didn't notice until I was investigating VERY closely. There is also a small hairline crack that does not go through and is also in the foot of the cup. These two small imperfections are photographed in the last photo. Welcome to the Attic Japanese e gg shell tea cup& saucer Set. This is a very delicate Japanese teacup and saucer set made of egg shell porcelain. Egg shell porcelain is a very fine thin bone china that is translucent. This lovely tea set features a Geisha girl on a path in front of a house and flowers throughout a plaid design surrounded by early 1900's 8-ray Japanese Imperial Flags. This little set definitely dates back to pre WWII. 1910's-1930' The Asian scene has been hand painted in very rich multi-color features and accented with gold. All four pieces are in very good condition with an exception of one tiny chip on the inside rim of one tea cup and a hairline crazing crack on the inside of the other one. Each piece is stamped with hallmarks on the bottoms in Japanese. All pieces are slightly out-of-round making me believe ... morethey have been entirely handmade. DETAILS OF ITEM This is a mid century porcelain Dragonware lithophane cup and saucer with a photographic quality secret Geisha image at the bottom of the cup. The cup measures 2 inches tall by 3.75 inches in diameter excluding the handle and the saucer measures 5.5 inches in diameter. The image on both cup and saucer shows a flying white dragon image amongst the lightening bolts in the sky. Raised Moriage highlights this design. The young ... moregeisha girl's face smiles shyly when you hold the cup against the light. Lithophane was first invented in 1827. Using the different thickness of the translucent bisque porcelain produces this remarkable three-dimensional image. The artist first carves the image into beeswax. The translucency of the wax allows the artist to see the result of this work. A plaster casting is taken from the wax mold then a fine porcelain paste is pressed into this mold. Lithophane coffee cups like this one were produced during the later 1940's through 1950's in Japan and the condition of this set is very good. What makes this set so unique is the high quality image of the lithophane that is a rare feature not often seen in these cups and saucers. They are hand-painted in Japan and feature Japanese Geisha Girls strolling through the palace gardens. The china used for the saucers is a little thicker than that used for the cups. But both are hand-painted with a raised enamel/paint and one set features accents of gold gilt. Both sets are in excellent condition with no chipping, cracking or crazing, but they do have some manufacturer's flaws. There are rough areas in the porcelain and there are areas of stray paint, none of which deters from the incredible beauty of these sets. These would make a lovely gift or display. Japanese Tea Cup and Saucer Hand Painted Geisha Porcelain Asian Oriental
Here is a lovely Japanese cup& saucer set. The saucer and inside of the cup are handpainted to depict Geisha and everyday life in Japan. The edges of both are scalloped and trimmed in gold and red. The set is made of porcelain and the hand painted detail work is exquisite. The saucer measures 5.25" The cup measures 2" high by 4" across. The outside of the cup has red flowers blossoms painted on it, 5 on one side. Four on the other side. The entire design is highlighted with gold. Makings on bottom in gold over red. The cup has a hairline crack in a"V" shape(see photo) I have described this item to the best of my ability. Thank you for looking!

DETAILS OF ITEM This is a mid century porcelain Dragonware lithophane cup and saucer with a photographic quality secret Geisha image at the bottom of the cup. The cup measures 2.13 inches tall by 4 inches in diameter excluding the handle and the saucer measures 5.5 inches in diameter. The image on both cup and saucer shows a flying brown dragon image amongst the lightening bolts in the blue sky. Raised Moriage highlights this design. The ... moreyoung geisha girl's face smiles shyly when you hold the cup against the light. Lithophane was first invented in 1827. Using the different thickness of the translucent bisque porcelain produces this remarkable three-dimensional image. The artist first carves the image into beeswax. The translucency of the wax allows the artist to see the result of this work. A plaster casting is taken from the wax mold then a fine porcelain paste is pressed into this mold. Lithophane coffee cups like this one were produced during the later 1940's through 1950's in Japan and the condition of this set is very good. What makes this set so unique is the high quality image of the lithophane that is a rare feature not often seen in these cups and saucers. Even her double eyelids and softness of her kimono can be seen on close view(see photos) There is some gold loss to the rim of the saucer and cup; otherwise. The rest of the condition is very good. Beautiful antique Japanese satsuma cup and saucer. Beautiful highly detailed decoration! Signed on the bottoms of both pieces. There is what I think may be a family crest design in the bottom of the cup. No chips or cracks but there is light wear to some of the decoration. Typical fine all over crazing in the glaze. Please see all 12 photos. The bowl of the cup measures 9.4 cm across not including the handle. It's 4.5 cm high. The saucer is 13.5 cm across. Recently out of an estate here in Boise Idaho.
