This is a nice Japanese Kutani Eggshell Porcelain Lithopane Cup and Saucer in excellent condition.There are no chips.Cracks or hairlines and the gold is in excellent shape with no wear.There is a picture of a Geshia woman in the bottom of cup when held up to the light,very nice!There is a Hindu diety done in gold on the side of the cup and on the saucer as well.Very nice decoration!Demi-cup measures 2-3/4"x3" with handle and the saucer measures 3-3/4" round.There is a Purple Kutani China mark on bottom of saucer dating the piece from the 1930's to the 1950's.Any questions please E-Mail.Thanks for looking!

Kutani Eggshell Cup & Saucer Signed - Chrysanthemums and Coins
Lovely and Unusual Kutani Eggshell Cup and Saucer- Signed Beautifully handpainted chrysanthemums. A gilt Mille Fleur decoration on the cup and saucer rims and auspicious coins all combine to make a striking Kutani piece. I assume it's Kutani from the shape, materials and the typical red markings on both the cup and the saucer. My guess would be early 20th century. In researching this piece I was unable to find anything quite like it. The painted Chrysanthemums are very well done. The colors are pale and pastel which contrast nicely with the bolder Mille Fleurs edge and the black and gold coin motif. The porcelain is very delicate and translucent. There is some wear and fritting on the base of the saucer. But all other edges are excellent. There are a few very minor stress lines in the glaze on the underside of the saucer of perhaps a ... more1/2 inch. These do not travel across the base, nor do the continue on to the display side of the saucer. I had to hunt for them and I only mention them in the spirit of full disclosure. Handpainted Kutani Eggshell porcelain tea cup, great condition
This is a great item. If you collect Kutani porcelain it is a little gem. Wonderful eggshell porcelain. Light as a feather, yet very strong, with the most detailed and elaborate decoration, all hand painted. It must have taken many hours of work to complete this little masterpiece. Three wonderful reserves pictue figures in conversation. And the body is covered in fabulous stylized chrysanthemums in gold over a red backgound. Signed with a six character mark on bottoms. Stands 2" high on a nice ring foot. Bowl is 4" wide at top. The size of a regular modern coffee cup. Just an elegant little item. Probably dates to early 20th century.

Each cup is a different design It's a very beautiful piece with exquisite painting on eggshell thin porcelain. The decoration includes a winter landscape. Flowers, red-capped cranes and open book panels with lovely gold trim in the design and on edges and the bamboo-shaped handle. The underside is signed as shown. This set is simply gorgeous! I have researched for days now to find out all I could about this set and have learned quite a lot.These are eggshell porcelain with a 5 color floral design trimmed in gold. KutaniYaki has such a wonderful history lesson. Kutaniyaki. ROMANTIC HISTORY OF 350 YEARS SUPPORTED BY"GOSAI"FIVE COLORS) Ko-Kutani of early stage progressed under the support of the Daishoji clan in 1655. After the discovery of potter's clay at a mine near Kutani village. Saijiro Goto was sent to Arita in Kyushu district to master ceramics and brought back the techniques. Though the Ko-Kutani kilns developed their bold and lovely style, they disappeared suddenly in about 1700. The cause of the decline is still unknown. Then the Kasugayama kiln opened at Kanazawa under the control of Kaga clan about eighty years after the close ... moreof the Ko-Kutani kiln. And starts the period of Restored Kutani. A lot of kilns were built such as Mokubei kiln the Yoshida-ya kiln. The Miyamoto kiln, and Eiraku kiln, developing each special style. In the Meiji period. Shoza Kutani developed his own stlyle which became popular for it's painting of"Saishiki-kinrande" with all styles putting together and the works of his apprentices were exported to get a high position as Industrial Arts of Kutani. The saucer is 4 inches across and the lip on it is appx. a quarter inch. The cup is 3 inches wide at widest point and 1 and 7/8 inches tall.It is a flat footed cup. a beautiful home by the water with mountains and waterfall in the background are pictured on these two teacups. Just from my own research I believe these were produced in the late 1800s. there are no chips or cracks. there is no ware on them that I can see. some of the art is raised. the red is deep and rich. all the colors are vibrant. I feel sure they are original. But sorry I cant guarantee. they are very fragile due to the eggshell porcelain. If you need more pictures just ask. There is also raised white enamel paint on the petals throughout. Each handle is covered in gilding as well. Just exquisite! These are almost see-through. So delicate and yet strong. They are in excellent condition for their age with very little signs of wear. There are no chips or cracks that I could find anywhere. From my research. Here is an absolutely amazing old handpainted Japanese fine porcelain cup. The saucer is not a match and is not nearly of the same quality. But will be included if the buyer wants it. The lightweight porcelain cup is signed on the bottom in red with 8 symbols. It has been hand decorated with gold and painted scenes of cranes and quails. Heavy application of gold and a very unusual design of clocks at different times around the top edge. Exquisitely decorated even inside. The saucer has a small faint hairline on the under side. The delicate cup is in lovely clean overall condition. But not perfect. It has a small, almost perfectly shaped V section out of the top rim. It has a mark on the bottom of the cup and also an impressed mark on the saucer which I have drawn because I could not capture it on camera. Set of 5 Japanese possibly Kutani/Satsuma Eggshell Porcelain Cups with Saucers
This auction is for a set of 5 Japanese Kutani/Satsuma(possibly) eggshell porcelain cups with lip edged saucers. They each measure about 1 ¾ in tall by 1 7/8 in diameter at the top by 1 ¼ in diameter at the bottom and about 2 ¾ in wide at widest point with handle. The saucers measure 3 ¾ in diameter by 5/8 in tall by 2 ¼ in diameter around bottom edge. These are very thin eggshell porcelain and beautifully delicate. No chips or cracks that I could find. Except for 1 saucer that has a large piece broken from the lipped edge(see pictures) Each cup and matching saucer has a beautifully intricate painted scene with water, mountains, sunset colors over the mountains, with trees and bushes. The main portion of the painting is 2 Japanese women in kimonos looking back to a younger Japanese girl. There look to be birds(lines ... moreand dots) flying in the sky overhead also. There is also a Japanese house painted in gold with pink flower bushes behind. Above the left side of the house and over the women is a mostly gold painted with red, green and black bird that looks like a rooster head with widespread wings. A gold line is painted around the top edge of the cup from bird wing to bird wing. The cup handle is also painted gold. The bottom of each cup is marked with a red circle outlined in gold and 2 character gold markings. Each marking is slightly different(see pictures) The bottom of each saucer is marked with 2 character markings in red. Overall an absolutely beautiful set of 5 eggshell porcelain Japanese hand painted cups with matching saucers.
