Antique Japanese Red Lacquer Sake Cup w/GOLD Lacquer Pine Needles! Meiji Period
Houghton USA Ancient Art. Antiques, Fine Collectables Antique Japanese Red Lacquer Cryptomeria Wood Sake Cup w/Gold Pine Needles Design c. Meiji Period 1868-1912 This auction is for a fabulous work of classic Japanese art-a brilliant RED Lacquer Sake Cup that is approximately 100 years old! It was made by a skilled artist during Japan's classic Meiji Period(1868-1912) During this time. The Emperor was moved from Kyoto to Tokyo. The Japanese believed that drinking Sake was one of the finer pleasures in life. And thus the small cups used to drink Sake should be as beautiful and interesting as possible. This extremely fine example does not disappoint with over 20 coats of refined Japanese"urushi" lacquer over a hand-turned, cryptomeria wood cup that is as light as a feather and weighs only 15 grams or.5 ounces! The Sake cup measures ... moreapproximetely 3.47" in diameter x 1.13" high. The Gold art work on the cup's inner surface is that of Japanese Pine needles. Which also happen to be one of Japan's three elements of happiness. This amazing art work is done with the finest of brushes and the raised gold lacquer design(called"Makie" is beautifully applied over the crimson color of the Sake cup and also to the edge of the cup's rim and base. This Sake Cup is in very good condition with no cracks or splits of any kind in the wood or lacquer. It does have some very minor wear to the edges. But for being over 100 years old, it is in truly remarkable condition and displays very well. Cultural Note: By the way. My Japanese friends tell me that the word"Sake" is actually pronounced"Sa-ke" like the"ke" in the word"kettle) and not"Sa-key" like the English word"key. And the word is pronounced with equal emphasis on both syllables, Sa-ke. So, I've been mispronouncing it for over 45 years! Sorry. Please look carefully at the 4x macro photos as they are part of the description. The white spots are from the lights I used to illuminate the

ANTIQUE 130 YR OLD MEIJI PINE PAGODA HAND PAINTED IMARI JAPANESE CERAMIC TEA CUP
From an estate sale in Japan. This is an antique Meiji era(c. 1880) hand thrown porcelain Japanese tea cup with a unique hand painted design of a scenic seaside pagoda scene. The gosu blue indicates that it could be as early as 1840. The gold highlighting was a final third firing as the rest of it was fired at a much lower heat. Its high temperature firings in a wood fired kiln gives it lasting strength and durability. When tapping the side of this cup it emits a high ring indicating that it was made from a refined clay and fired at length at a high temperature. This cup includes a design of a swallow on the inside(see pictures 6& 7) And its shape including dimpled sides was a much more difficult form to create, after it is thrown on a potter's wheel. Known as a melon shape. This style was common to the late Edo to early Meiji Eras(c. ... more1800- 1880) Having been in storage for over a century, this tea cup remains in excellent condition. Measures 3 1/4" across by 2 3/4" high(8.5 x 7 cm) A fabulous way to enjoy your morning tea or evening sake! You'll love it. Up for auction is an ANTIQUE A. A. Vantine Nippon Chrysanthemums Cup and Saucer. The bottom of the saucer is marked as seen in the photograph with a blue mark of crossed Imperial Chinese and Japanese flags with the Turkish crescent moon and star inbetween. This refers to Mr. A. A. Vantine's business relations with these three countries. This mark tentatively dates this piece to the very early 1900's. Around the Meiji time frame I believe. This BEAUTIFUL cup and saucer depicts chrysanthemums in shades of yellow, green, and white. This set is HANDPAINTED and done with a raised beaded handiwork throughout. The saucer measures 4 1/4" across. The cup measures 3" across from edge of handle to end of cup. The cup measures 1 3/8"H. There is a very small chip on edge of the backside of the saucer measuring 3/16" across ... moreby 3/16"high. There is also a place on the edge of the saucer where the gilding is painted over the rim of the saucer. There is a very small chip on the edge of the saucer that measures 1/16"long by not even 1/16"H. There is a small dark dot in the interior of the cup in the porcelain along with some other lighter colored dots in the porcelain. There is a in the interior of the cup by the handle. There is a couple minor flea bites in the rim of the cup. Also, there is gold loss to the gilding from age. Pictures of actual item. Beginning in 1869. AA Vantine's was an upscale, well-established importing house of Oriental goods in New York City, and one of the most notable of the up-town merchants. Vantine's agents were known to search the world over for the rare and beautiful. Around the 1840's Ashley A. Vantine started a provision and supply business in San Francisco. He continued in California until 1869. When he came to New-York and established himself in the Oriental goods business, opening his first shop for oriental wares in New York in 1869. Meiji period Japanese gold Satsuma Patriarchs 1000 faces cup & saucer
Meiji period Japanese gold Satsuma Patriarchs 1000 faces cup& saucer This gorgeous Japanese Satsuma gold-encrusted cup and saucer are from a very fine Nashville Belle Meade estate sale. The owners bought the highest quality of antiques and art. The saucer features the white dragon and the patriarchs and I have seen a similar mark on the bottom of the saucer described as being a“Royal Mark under the Shimazu family crest” this one is similar but not exactly the same. The saucer is about 4-1/4” in diameter. If possible. The cup is even MORE lavishly decorated with gold and it is signed on the side in a panel that is part of the painted decoration. The cup is slightly over 2” tall and just under 2-1/2” in diameter(not counting the handle) Condition: Very good antique condition– no chips or cracks. JAPANESE ANTIQUE 120 YR OLD MEIJI ERA AKA IMARI CERAMIC TEA CUP FLOWERS SCENIC
I purchased this intricately glazed hand painted imari tea cup at a dealer only antique auction just outside of Kyoto. It came from an estate which had pieces dating over 300 years back. This is an aka imari( multicolored) ceramic tea cup which dates to the mid Meiji era(c. 1890) The outside is designed with multi color glazed work with hand painted details of flowers. Melons, and a butterfly. Around the lower and inner rim there is a lattice pattern in cobalt blue. This style tea cup was commonly used in the late Edo to mid Meiji Eras(c. 1850- 1890) Being all hand painted it is most likely from the early to mid Meiji Era as by 1900 the use of transfer print became the vogue. It measures 3 1/4" across by 2 3/4" tall(8 x 6.5 cm) Having been in storage most of its life. It remains in excellent condition. A great way to enjoy your ... moremorning tea or evening wine. Meiji Period Arita Toshikian Kisabu Antique Japanese Porcelain Cup and Saucer
Antique Meiji Period Arita Toshikian Kisabu Japanese Porcelain Cup and Saucer Hello from Spyglass Treasures and Spyglass Booty! We are constantly trying to"SPY" out treasures for you in our travels. Please come back often because you never know what we have"commandeered" to offer you! A kind poster on eBay's pottery. Glass, and porcelain message board translated and identified this gorgeous cup and saucer for me. They said, The mark reads 年木奄喜三製"Made by Toshikian Kisabu. Toshikian(1845-1886) was a very highly regarded Arita potter in the Meiji era. Doing additional research on the name"Toshikian" did not yield any more information for me. However. Plugging in the Japanese characters, I was able to see more lovely antique Arita porcelain. I had trouble taking quality pictures of this lovely set. So, as ... moreyou can see, I've included lots of pictures in the hopes you can see how beautiful it is. The highly detailed painted figures are painted with such delicate precision with some being painted in white enamel on top of the white background. I think it is more beautiful in person that in my pictures. And, I am amazed that that thin, delicate handle survived the kiln! A wonderful treasure you NEED to commandeer for yourself or your loved one! Condition: There are several small chips along the top edge of the cup at the points and one tiny nick in between two points. There are also the darkened series of stress lines seen on the foot in the picture where I show the mark. The saucer has a small chip on the edge mostly on the bottom. This gorgeous antique Arita porcelain cup and saucer set is otherwise in excellent condition! Approximate Dimensions: Cup: 2 3/4" tall Saucer: 5 5/8" diameter at widest points Antique and Pre-OwnedCollectible Treasures- A Personally Satisfying. Environmentally Responsible, and Fiscally Smart Investment! I will gladly combine to save you on shipping if the items can be safely shipped together. If there's another sale you are interested in.
