Tashiro Ichiroji was a famous ceramic artist during the Meiji era and exhibited his porcelain wares at major international exhibits. He was internationally famous for his porcelain, cloisonne, cloisonne on porcelain, and earthenware goods. Japan Blue White Porcelain Tea Cup Japanese Landscape No Handles
This antique cup stands 2 3/4 inches tall and wide at the top of the rim. A knowledge expert of Japanese ceramics gave me the following info about this piece: In early Meiji period(1868-1912) Europe held an exhibition which Japan participated in order to gain national power. As a result, the artistry of the Japanese porcelain and pottery were highly appraised, and collecting Japanese porcelain and pottery(or Japonaiserie for that matter) became a huge"boom" in all Europe. The orders rushed in and potteries in Japan vigorously manufactured exporting products. Generally, they were mostly dinnerware and vases with flamboyant colors that would appeal to the European taste. The cup is made in Satsuma(currently Kagoshima prefecture) in the early Meiji period as an export item. The"Made in Japan" writing was written after it ... morewas made. Possibly from the importer. If was highly unlikely for the original Japanese potters to write that on their piece before export. So if you see one that's under the glaze, it is most likely an imitation that was created outside of Japan and claimed it to be a"Japonaiserie. There is a 1 3/4 inch crack that starts at the top rim of the cup- it is visible from the inside and outside(see photos) There are also some glazing dots on the surface of the cup. The interior bottom of the cup also has an orange stain. The bottom rim of the cup also has some chipping. Please examine all photos to check on surface condition.

Beautiful near perfect porcelain Satsuma cup. The pattern is Mother/Son according to the Geisha Girl Encyclopedia. The rim and face of the cup are in perfect condition with no chips or wear. The gold detail is spectacular. Signed. In Japanese, in gold over red on the bottom. There is a small chip-let in the foot of the cup that I didn't notice until I was investigating VERY closely. There is also a small hairline crack that does not go through and is also in the foot of the cup. These two small imperfections are photographed in the last photo. RARE OLDER JAPANESE CORALENE BEADED PORCELAIN TEA SAKE CUP FEMALE LITHOPANE
Note: Most items are vintage or antique and were found at estate sales. Local auctions or flea markets. Up for auction is an early 20th century Japanese porcelain sake or tea cup. It is handpainted with the design of a ship on water passing through an opening between two mountains. There's relief glass beaded accents known as coralene adorning the cup. The extra rarity is the lithopane female portrait seen when holding the cup to a light source. Similar to geisha lithopanes. Japanese coralene is ceramics decorated with raised beads or dots. This style was first made in the 19th century. Coralene designs include coral branches. Seaweed, daisies, birds and fishes. Later wares made to imitate coralene had dots of enamel. Another type of coralene is made with glass beads on glass containers. The cup is artist signed and I believe the words ... moretell a story about the motif. This is one of three old Japanese porcelain pieces I am offering this week. Postage will be combined/discounted for multiple winning auctions. There are no chips or discoloration. This auction is for a miniature porcelain tea cup and saucer that appears to be stamped"911" This looks to be a Japanese set. But without knowing the maker, I can't be sure. This set is nicely decorated with pink lustre color and a white center. The edges are trimmed in gold, as is the handle of the tea cup. The set does have very minor loss to some of the gold gilting and a very small chip on the inside rim and an aged crack on the inside of the cup. Neither of these can be seen from the outside of the cup. The cup does not have any other damage and the plate is in excellent condition. The saucer measures 4 1/2 inches in diameter and the cup is 2 3/4 inches tall and 3 inches in diameter. Egg shell porcelain is a very fine thin bone china that is translucent. This lovely tea set features a Geisha girl on a path in front of a house and flowers throughout a plaid design surrounded by early 1900's 8-ray Japanese Imperial Flags. This little set definitely dates back to pre WWII. 1910's-1930' The Asian scene has been hand painted in very rich multi-color features and accented with gold. All four pieces are in very good condition with an exception of one tiny chip on the inside rim of one tea cup and a hairline crazing crack on the inside of the other one. Each piece is stamped with hallmarks on the bottoms in Japanese. All pieces are slightly out-of-round making me believe ... morethey have been entirely handmade. The cup(without the handle is 8.7 cm(3 1/2” The condition of the cup& saucer is very good– No chips, cracks, or restoration. In my opinion, the cup dates to the late Edo or Meiji period, circa 1850-1900. Hisatomi Yojibei Masatsune with his oldest son. Masayasu(1812- 1878) operated the foreign trade of the porcelain ware in the late Edo period. In 1842 the family was officially licensed by Saga Han. Nabeshima Naomasa(1815- 1871) who granted the family a trade name, Zoshuntei. The Zoshuntei company was continued by Masayasu's younger brother, Yohei Masaoki(1832- 1871) and it held exclusive and much lucrative profits in the market until they lost their license to another local entrepreneur, the Tashiro family. Finely potted cylindrical form, with a curved base and a lightly curved rim, on a circular foot. The sides are decorated in underglaze cobalt blue, beneath a transparent glaze, the white reserve areas are decorated in overglaze green and gilt to depict prunus flowers. The edge of the foot has a double ring mark, and the underside is marked in underglaze blue with a two character makers mark below a Mount Fuji device.
