This is a very cute set. With advantage of including a second sake pitcher, to always have one heating!5 tiny cups measuring 2 inches across, and 1.5 tall. This lovely set is in unused condition. I have no clue as to their age, acquired second hand the glaze has a high sheen, with a slight amount of very minimal crazing, due to age. I'm sorry I don't know the style of traditional pottery this is. With the applied glazes, and brushstrokes. They are stamped on bottom of sake cups.these are made from a heavily sanded clay, hand thrown, hand crafted. Shipping is at the 2 pound rate. Old Sake Set Handpainted JAPAN stamp in red Karakara Style with 2 cups Perfect
You are bidding on a set consisting of one sake bottle Karakara style and 2 sake cups. The decoration appears to be handpainted over-enamel of maple leaves. The set bears the red stamp JAPAN on all 3 pieces. It also has a stamp that I didn't notice until I photographed it. Perhaps it is the mark of the maker. The height of the bottle is about 3 1/2" The diameter of the bottle opening is 2 1/4" and the widest part of the bottle is approx. 4" The sake cup is just over 1" high and 2" across the mouth. I don't know much about these except the JAPAN stamp gives us a window of time around 1921-1941. It is a beautiful set and I am happy to hear more about it if anyone wants to share!

The single kanji on the chest of both Darumas is"Kusuri" Medicine" and so both of these cups were probably commissioned by a pharmaceutical company. The maker's marks on the bases of both say"Kutani" There is general wear. And the smaller cup has two chips at its rim(not well visible in the sample photos) but there is no other significant structural damage.
