This ... moreis beautifully Rosemaled trunk from the very early period of Norwegian pioneering i mmigration to North America. Front and both sides are elaborated hand painted with floral motifs. T he lock is period to the time. As would be the nails and wooden pegs used. No key for the lock though. The trunk is solidly built with the hand forged metal plates reinforc ing sides and top. Inside is relatively clean- no major issues- wood work has stood test of times. A few scuff marks here and there. As would be normal for a trunk of this age. Also of interest is remnant of a label on one side that spells out'Milwaukee- Ontario Huron. R.R' believe the could be a railroad label from mid 1800s. It measures 36 inches long by 24 in ches tall with the lid closed by 20 inches deep. It features a remova ble storage tray and more linens. Beddings. And clothing can be placed underne ath for conv enient additional hu ge storage. It is a wood structure trunk and frame with smooth me tal(black) and woven pattern metal riveted overlays with beautiful beading to ta ck in metals and curved and straight gorg eousl y grained wood slat s. Here's what I stated about it s condition: Metal overlay surfaces have been repainted and restored. Some scratches and scuffs marks on beautifully grained wood slats. Leather handle missing on left side. Flip up side ... morelocking latches both flip up into locking position. But only one catches to keep it lock closed and the other is missing its catch. Center locking latching closes in position but does not lock and there is no key. Interior lining shows foxing and staining and has some t ares due to great age. But smells clean with nice scent like cedar inside. Truly a rare beauty of extra large size that has great looks and craftsmanship on evident in these earlier era pieces of exceptional beauty. Beautiful Victorian Era Steamer Trunk. This trunk has been conserved or restored. Has had quite a bit of work, but the only thing that has been added& isn't original to this trunk are the leather handles. Everthing else is original to this particular trunk The trunk had 3 coats of paint that were removed from its exterior. Afterward it is was polished witha metal polish, there is still some patina, after 100 plus years it is almost impossible to remove all of that with just cloth and polish lol The paint was light green and off white. In certain places small remnants of the paint may remain. Without damaging the surface of the trunk it is very hard to totally get it all off. Also I think it adds to the already very rustic beautiful charm of the trunk. It is important to note the color variations you see in the pics on the metal ARE ... moreNOT paint. This is actually a pattern in the metal. One the end pieces I think it is patina and discoloration. But the middle piece on lower portion, and next to end pieces on top, I think it is the way the metal is made. It is very beautiful, and seems purposefully placed There is very gorgeous and unique hardware. There are little flower or star shaped medallions on top of trunk and on the front of trunk The wooden slats have been sanded stained and finished The handles were replaced with strips of 100% leather Interior of trunk was stripped of all inside paper. It has been left natural wood so new owner may leave as is. Or finish out to suit their needs best. One of the most unique things about this trunk is the locks on either end of trunk. And latch in center Normally one most I have seen. There will a latch on both ends, and a lock in center, this one is reversed! Large size 36 x 21 inches and 24 inches tall Great size for a coffee table. Tv stand, statement piece for any room, or as blanket chest or for storage very sturdy. Within this style of trunks are a few other names that have come about based on the positioning of the wood slates that cover the dome construction. The exact origin of these names is unknown but seem reasonable and listed below as I understand them. We are pleased to offer this very nice. BEAUTIFUL antique VICTORIAN steamer trunk. The chest has a domed top and is wood and metal construction. It features ornate iron hardware and trim and leather side handles. This wonderful trunk has an UNTOUCHED, ORIGINAL INTERIOR. The interior is lined in decoupage fashion. It has 4 compartments that are each defined with a different decoupaged portrait. They lift up(the top compartment lid lowers) for storage but they are not the"lift out" removable type of replacement trays. They are constructed of a heavy cardboard type material and have hooked closing mechanisms. The largest compartment is the lower compartment. It is accessible by lifting the sides of the center compartment. The trunk is very nice and is very much in original condition with very little restoration. The leather handles ... moremay have been replaced at some point as they have an aged patina but are in excellent condition. The trunk has the original locks but has no key. There are two clasp closures with locks on the front with a large center lock. There are 4 small wheels on the bottom of the trunk for easy transport. They are in good working condition. Colorado around the late 1800’s or may be the very early 1900’s. This trunk is clad in metal with wood slats. Decorative embossed gold hardware and canvas straps. The metal banding was used to strengthen them and for decorative design. All the hardware appears to be original. I have not tried to clean it, because some people prefer the original patina. You can see that the side leather handles are missing or torn. Also, one of the front canvas straps(right side in pictures) is torn in half, but, it’s still intact. The inside does have some spots, but, there is no odor. It’s rare to find the inside tray, but, it’s all complete. The next to the last picture shows a dent on the front top metal band. This one is a beauty. Up for auction today we have a refinished antique trunk dating to the 1830's- there was newpaper from that date inside when it was found in its"before" state. Originally leather covered, the leather was dried and tattered, worn and falling off- this trunk shines and is ready for any room in your home or office to provide much needed storage of important papers, photographs, or photo albums. Antique 19th century trunk made by J.H. McNamara's Trunk Works Nos. 138. 140 and 142 Monroe St. Fort Dearborn Bld. Chicago. It measures 40 1/2" across, 24 1/2" high, 16" deep and weighs 55 lbs. The trunk is all original. The wood and leather has a lovely patina. The inside has two levels of cloth covered trays, and a box that slides from left to right. These trays all have leather straps. The label is on the inside cover, also the original paper tag written with the owners name W.E.H, 251 North Grove St. East Orange, N.J. There is a brass plaque on the top with the maker's name. There are no cracks inside or outside the trunk. There is a small gouge on the front right side of the trunk. The inside fabric on the side shows some wear. Antique humpback chest trunk wood and metal steamboat trunk.
Up for auction is a Wood and metal humpback chest. The chest is original there has been no restoration done to it. The chest measures 26" long 17" tall 15" wide the paper on the inside of the chest is original there is a broken handle and some hardware issues that come with age. The inside tray is long gone. This chest has been kept inside a apartment for most of its life. It was not used for storage but as a showpiece so it has been kept very clean. Up for Auction is an ANTIQUE Vintage Steamer Black Metal Lined Wood TRUNK. It has Nice Metal corners and has a thin lining of metal over wood. Inside it is lined also. There is an insert that has makes a shelf. The bottom of the insert has detatched from the sides. See pictures. The wood is lined with blue and white paper. It has a lock by the Eagle Lock Company which was in business in the late 1800's and early 1900's. There is no key and the middle of the handle is missing. The trunk has the intials PTM on it. The metal is scatched. Warped and dinged from use and it is very old. The lining inside also has marks and is tearing from age. It also has rivots on the sides. Up for sale is a antique all wood immigrants trunk. It is a great antique trunk from the 1800's. It does show signs of aging wood cracked no lock in the front. The trunk is 44 3/4long. 24 1/4inches tall. The bottom is 18 1/4inches deep and the top is 23 1/2inches deep. It could use a good cleaning been stored for years. I will be listing this item plus other oak piece from a local estate. The owner was a refinisher. These were some of the projects that had never got done or even started. This trunk is an unusual size and shape measuring 36.5 x 21.5 x 26 with a top that is not quite flat but not quite domed either. The trunk is in un-restored condition(see condition details for more information) and a nice find with a large amount of decorative embossed tin on the outside. Wood slats going vertically and almost all of the original hardware and latches. Antique small WOOD Victorian Humpback Trunk chest LEATHER train stagecoach OLD
Up for bid is a rare original SMALLER antique trunk/chest. It has leather over wood with metal strapping and sitting on four metal roller/wheels. This chest has the original lock.but…no key. It also has the original paper lining with a Victorian style picture on the interior lid. There is also one area where it looks like someone wrote their initials in pencil. The exterior leather is intricately decorated with artwork depicting geometrical designs. The leather is fastened with numerous studs or tacks. Measurements are 25” x 14” x 13” The Bad: This trunk/chest is completely original so shows evidence of its age. Many“bumps and bruises” through the years as you can see in the many pictures I took. But is truly stunning so I have not tried to clean it up at all…the new owner can make that choice. I purchased this many years ago at a local western ... moreauction. This one according to the late owners family was much travelled around India. All the brass fittings are still in position and the chest has wonderfull naturally aged patina. Recently lightly cleaned and wax polished so all ready for the home. The brass fittings have been gently polished as they were almost blackened with age. One of the brass carrying handles is very slightly different so may have been update at some time. Antique Steamer Trunk, 7 dome oak wood slats- replacement parts
These are 7 dome top trunk slats removed from an old trunk. This is one of those trunks I saved for my garden. These are probably before 1890 because there are pairs of nail holes. In the mid 1890s there was a change to only 1 nail where the 2 had been before to save money. These slats have both double nail holes and single nail holes but they came from the same trunk top. These need to be cleaned and refinished. See photos for condition. I think I labeled the picture correctly. But I had taken the picture in October and was trying to match nail holes with actual pieces. too lazy to take new pictures) Sizes are approximate: 4- slats 18” 2- slats 17 ½” 1 slat 17” These were the best of the lot. Untitled Document Purchased at a recent estate sale in NC full of fine antiques. This beautiful ornate trunk was a nice rare find. It has many exquisite and elaborate details. Please see images. It measures 23" tall. 30" wide and 17.5" deep. A collector's item! Looks great for its age though it does have some wear. The only parts I notice missing on the exterior are one of the leather handles and it did not come with a key. There is a name written on the right side. See photos to judge condition. It has its caster wheels. Overall it is very nice and I believe everything is original. The inside seems to be original and in very good shape for the age. Antique Dome Top Hump Back Pressed Tin & Wood Slats Steamer Trunk Herringbone
A recent estate sale purchase. An antique 1870's dome top/ hump back steamer trunk covered with pressed tin in a herringbone/ basketweave pattern. The wide tin mixed in on the edges has a pattern of tiny diamonds with dots in the center. The lid has curved hardwood slats and lots of heavy tacks holding all of the metal in place, the tacks are most likely brass plated. The previous owner painted it a shade of dark rust/ reddish brown so you will probably want to refinish it- it looks as if it could be sanded down to the bare metal and wood because the paint isn't very thick.We believe the metal handles seen in the photos are not original to the trunk, they were probably replaced with the black metal handles whenever it was painted. The handles should be leather and if you'd like to replace them(as well as the metal brackets that ... morehold them) you can find them reasonably priced at any trunk restoration site on-line(they even sell them here on Ebay) The trunk measures approximately 31" long X 20" wide X 24" high at its highest point near the center. The tray for the inside of the trunk is missing. The hardwood slats and all of the metal on the trunk look to be in good condition. The bottom of the trunk is covered with black metal and 3 hardwood slats that have done a great job of protecting the trunk over the past 100+ years. The key is missing and we're not 100% positive that the lock is functional so it will arrive open. There are two(2) hinges on the back that hold the lid securely to the bottom and there are two small metal lever-action clasps that keep it closed tightly in front. These are a tight fit and probably need lubrication but you can still get them to open and close. These clasps are stamped what appears to us to be' PAT MAY 1875' The inside of the trunk is clean and dry and it retains its original paper lining- the lid has just a hint of the original chromolithograph and the border.
