Up for sale is this vintage or antique early 20th century humpback trunk. The front. Back and top have metal panels with a reptile skin texture. The side metal panels are smooth with a blue tint. The humpback top has wood banding. There is metal banding on the edges. It has metal one directional wheels on the bottom. There is extensive patina on the metal and wear on the wood finish. Part of the metal lid strip is missing on the front corner, and the leather handles are missing. It has 2 broken hinges and the inside shows use wear as in soiling, filth, staining. The lid on the insert is detached but is included with the trunk. It has a strong smell of moth balls. The lock does not latch and we do not have the key. However, the other 2 latches do function. The wardrobe side even has its Original Wooden Hangers that are built right in and an ingenious Slide Bar so you can decrease the area as the size of your clothing dictates. Below the wardrobe is a fold down box which we assume was for shoes. To the Right is a 4 Drawer Dresser with Drawers for even more storage. The drawers are all relatively narrow given the trunk's size but they are all Extra Deep! Outside. The trunk has a Black Leather like outer surface with Big Metal Corner Protectors on all Corners and all the Protectors are Intact! In the spring of 1848 after his father died he and his mother moved to Rochester N.Y. You are bidding on a Antique Likly wardrobe trunk. And on the top in gold says Pawnee Bills Wild West Show and has his wife Miss May Lillie name below it. I have sent this off to the museum and the curator says this is a 1910-20s trunk and most likely if she ever did own it, it would have been later in her life, but there is no proof or evidence to suggest that. So for that reason I am selling this just as a fun piece and not as a legit original Pawnee bill piece because there is no evidence to suggest that this is real and she owned it. The trunk is huge and measures 43 inch long x 23 wide x 21 tall. The trunk is in good condition for its age with the normal wear and tear of being possibly 90-100 year old plus trunk. This 116 year old NEVERBREAK trunk was one of two that was purchased in 1898 in Newark. NJ, by my maternal great-great grandparents as a wedding present for their daughter and new son-in-law for their honeymoon cruise to Europe. Family history has the couple making numerous trips overseas and cruising to various countries for pleasure as well as to conduct business. The couple had a total of seven children and enjoyed a marriage of 61 years. I inherited this trunk quite sometime ago and although there is sentimental value due to the family ties I have had to come to the realization that I just don't have room. Or real need for it. I would rather see it be used than wasted. Overall Dimensions: 44"L x 21.5"W x 22"D Weight is approximately#75 lbs I don't have anyway of accurately weighing such a bulky object. But# 75 lbs ... moreis realistic. There are five(5) drawers with varing sizes and all with their complete and original hardware except on one drawer where the pull is missing. All of the drawers are in tact and all that are required have the original cotton canvas clothing ties used to keep clothes neatly stacked and stored in place during travel. Dimensions of Drawers: 1) 21"L x 4.5"W x 9.5"D 2) 21"L x 10.25"W x 9.5"D 3) 21"L x 10"W x 9.5"D 4) 21"L x 7.5"W x 9.5"D 5) 21"L x 7.0"W x 9.5"D It has three(3) original wooden coat and suit hangers; along with two(2) pant hangers. All of which travel securely. While resting on two extendable metal rods. There are also two(2) original wooden stabilizer bars with original clips and clasps. There are no bad odors or noxious smells associated with this trunk. All clasps and locks work great. I have misplaced the key. But am in the process of locating it. The trunk is black on the outside and the drawers are brown. There are some marks in white on top but I have not been able to decipher them. Would make a great storage area for tableware. Sheets, etc. or a great sewing/crafts storage; or for clothes. The left hand side of the open trunk pulls out about 6" to allow clothes to be hung on the 4(possibly 6) wooden hangars. But it seems to be all there. I am not positive about what it will take to get it working again? It needs work but it seems mostly some fabric work and some contact paper/paint attention would make this a great great piece to have in you shop. This is a fabulous early 1900s black heavy steamer trunk lined with fabric. Once opened. There are 3 dropdown compartments which are suspended by sweet hardware from the era. All are covered with a nice blue fabric in great condition, and each closes with a small flat latch. There is a hanger bar front to back with several original wood hangers. there are tie rack bars running front to back on each side. The trunk compartment is lined with the original blue satin material sporting several shoe pockets surrounding the sides and back. This material should be replaced or refurbished. It is old and stained, torn in areas. Graphics suggest it is a Mendel Trunx. Label says Lutz of Washington D.C. There are heavy leather handels. And travel stickers on the trunk: one from Rome, and a couple of others. All in all.
