$38.00 Shipping Condition: Used Location: Raleigh, United States A recent estate sale purchase. A small child's size travel/ steamer trunk complete with a tray and a key. This trunk measures approximately 22" ... morelong X 14" wide X 15 1/2" high and it has two hinges in back that hold the lid securely to the base. There used to be sturdy leather handles on each side of the trunk but they are no longer intact, these can be purchased inexpensively on-line and they're fairly easy to replace. The corner protectors and hardware appear to be brass plated steel. There are two hasp type closures, one on each side of the lock and the lock needs to be bent just a little to close it securely. We tried the key and the locking mechanism seems to work properly but we didn't want to damage anything so it will arrive open with the key tucked in an envelope safely inside. The inside of the trunk is wood and there should be wood beneath the black material covering the outside(it is non-magnetic and we don't think it's metal) This little trunk is in very good condition and once it's restored it should be a beauty- perfect for your antique doll collection or as a gift for a very special grandchild. This antique steamer trunk has no identifying information; however. We believe it is from the 1800's. The trunk measures approximately 38" long x 26" high x 22.5" wide when closed. It is a fabric-covered chest with wooden ribbing and what would appear to be additional leather stripping. It also has metal corners and hardware. Our trunk is in need of repair and restoration. The lock is missing and the hinges in the back of the trunk require attention. The top must be held open so it does not fall back. The inside of the trunk shows signs of age and wear. This item is a vintage antique woodden hump back steamer trunk. It measures 32"x 16" x 18.5" It is in very good shape. The outside is all original. It still has the original wooden handles. There are a couple of cracks in the top. But they do not take away from the character of the trunk.The inside has been lined with a mint green floral pattern. This trunk is an amazing piece of history. This trunk has a little story behind it. My great grandfather, was the owner of this trunk, I don't know where he got it from, but he was very wealthy, and he owned, a huge mansion, up in the Upper Peninsula of Michigan, witch is very rare, as 99.9% of folks are poor up there, as there is nothing but trees, and water, he had left the estate to my grandfather, about 40 years ago my grandfather never went back to the estate, he let it become basically codemed or he let it go, and it became un-livable, when my grandfather died the estate went to me I didn't know about it so I went and checked out, and I found this trunk hidden between his closet, and a little trap door in what might have been my great grandfathers master bedroom. Vintage Small Metal Flattop Steamer Trunk
This item is a very nice small metal flattop steamer trunk. It measures 28" x 14.5"x 18" It has the new leather handles. Someone painted this trunk red. We did not change it. The front bottom section has four paint chips shown in picture 9. Even with the paint chips this is a very nice little trunk. It has been lined inside with quilt batting and black and red floral pattern material. This is a very nice little trunk, which would make any little girl a very nice Christmas present. This item is a very nice vintage wooden flattop steamer trunk. It measures 28.5" x 16.5" x 18.5" It does have a crack across the top. But it has be reinforced with a new top on the inside. It has the ne leatherl handles. The latches on the front are sprung, which is not unusal for a trunk of this age, It has been lined inside with quilt batting and a red colored floral pattern material. Thanks for looking. Important vintage leather steamer trunk belonged to Henry McNeal Turner
I bought this leather trunk in February of 2004 at an auction in Charleston SC that had many items that once belonged to Henry McNeal Turner. 12th Bishop of the African Methodist Church. See below for detailed biography. Considering the age, it is in excellent condition. Some of the leather could use some conditioning and the blue string used to make the star on the inside cover is very brittle. There are many compartments in this trunk and all of the hinges and locking mechanisms are there as far as I can tell. The color of the leather on the inside is beautiful and the details worked into this trunk are very very nice. I never cleaned or conditioned this trunk so as to leave it as it came into my possesion. The bottom has 4 metal wheels attached to two wooden skis. I have several more pictures if you would like them and also if you need ... morea picture of a specific part, just ask) The dimensions are 30"x17"x20" Please ask for a shipping quote as I feel that if you do not live close enough to pick this up in person, it needs to be crated before being shipped. This trunk is a wonderful piece of history but even aside from that it is a wonderful decorator item that becomes a focal point in the room, especially if the lid is left open and the colors are allowed to shine. This is an antique steamer trunk. Used for transportation of personal items while traveling by train or the like. The production date is estimated to be pre-1900. You will find this to be a beautiful piece. The condition is a bit rough but as expected for an item that has been used extensively. Imagine this being loaded onto a train car in the early 1900's. I consider it to be in working condition though since the hinges and latches still work. However the key is missing. Alligator Embossed Steamer Trunk 1890-1910 This is a versatile and attractive trunk from the turn of the century. A solidly constructed steamer made of wood, trimmed with embossed alligator tin, and featuring a lid with only a slight arc. It’s 34 inches wide, 19 inches front to back, and 22.5 inches tall– a perfect complement to any rustic decor. The trunk is constructed of a pine box with hardwood slats across the top and two slats on the front and back. It has new thick black leather handles and a new lid stay– otherwise in original condition. The alligator pattern has been refinished in a rich. Reddish brown that is darker than it may appear in the flash photos. Although there is no evidence of its manufacturer. It was purchased for restoration in Maine, and its design and appointments mirror those of trunks produced in the Northeast between ... more1890 and the early 1900s. The bottom has been cleaned. Painted, and sealed with polyurethane so it safely sits on floors or carpets. The trunk is solid and clean and has absolutely no stale or musty odors. This is one of the most unusual and attractive antique steamer trunks I have found. Unusual design reinforced with multiple wood slats and copper detailing throughout. I acquired this particular trunk about 15 years ago and used it for awhile as an accent table with a glass top in my design studio. Although I am on the constant hunt for vintage trunks, this is one of the most unusual I have ever found and have held on to it for years awaiting another purpose. All wood construction with a multitude of wood slat reinforcements and copper straping with riveted joints throughout. Much of the original hardware. Including hinges, is intact but the front lock/latch ... moreand one side handle is missing. The interior is clean with remanants of an old paper lining that has been pealed away to reveal that the wood used in the making of the trunk was most likely recycled from antique wood crating. With one area showing an original stamp for the"American rubber company" I was surprised to see this and since this trunk is at least 100 years old, I think it is such an unusual and charming detail The trunk has probably had a coat of protective finish added to the exterior at some point and the wood has developed an aged and rich patina. There is a burn mark(see photo) on the left side. Indicating at some point in its history this trunk even endured some sort of fire, but is clean and undamaged otherwise. This trunk looks fantastic as is- I used it with a custom cut(very inexpensive) glass top for use as a coffee table. Either way. An absolutely stunning and historical addition to your design scheme! Vintage steamer trunk Splendid looking chest. It has a lovely old shine and full of old character. The two brass middle locks and clasps which are nice and shiney. No key long gone. The locks are not the standard type which is a nice touch. It does have is original thick stiched leather handles. Wooden banding As with old chests. Up for Auction is an ANTIQUE Vintage Steamer Black Metal Lined Wood TRUNK. It has Nice Metal corners and has a thin lining of metal over wood. Inside it is lined also. There is an insert that has makes a shelf. The bottom of the insert has detatched from the sides. See pictures. The wood is lined with blue and white paper. It has a lock by the Eagle Lock Company which was in business in the late 1800's and early 1900's. There is no key and the middle of the handle is missing. The trunk has the intials PTM on it. The metal is scatched. Warped and dinged from use and it is very old. The lining inside also has marks and is tearing from age. It also has rivots on the sides. Vintage Wooden Flattop Steamer Trunk (rare half trunk)
This item is a very nice rare vintage wooden flattop steamer half trunk. It measures 24" x 18" x 20. Trunk companies made these small trunks as samples to display the workmanship and the hardware that could be used on the larger trunks. These are very rare. We have been restoring trunks for 17 years and this is only the 4th one we have seen. It does have some small cracks on the top. It has the new leather handles. The latches are in good working order which close securely. It has very heavy hardware with 3 hinges across the back. ANTIQUE STEAMER TRUNK VINTAGE VICTORIAN STORAGE TRAVEL CHEST RESTORED REFINISHED
Up for sale is this beautiful restored large antique victorian roll top steamer trunk with key. It measures 35" long by 22 1/4" wide and 25" tall. The original canvas that wrapped this trunk has been removed and the wood was sanded. Stained with minwax"cherry" then sealed with two coats of spar urethane(light sand in between coats) The interior lining has been removed and the wood was sanded then stained. The trunk shows obvious aesthetic signs of age but these details give it the perfect patina and look. The structure of this trunk is solid and it is functional as a coffee table, blanket chest, etc. A great piece with tons of character that will be the focal point of any room.
