Rare Antique Unique Leather Steamer Trunk with Brass Hardware for JEWELRY
This is an antique leather jewelry salesman's steamer trunk with brass locks& fittings. There are 10 divided drawers lined in green velvet. Some of the drawers are missing part of the dividers. There are some tears in the exterior leather and a hole in the leather in the back. The case measures 13.5" wide. 21.75" tall and 8" deep. It weighs about 19 pounds. There is a bit of a musty smell. We have not checked to see if the combination lock is working as as we do not know the combination. The lock is"as is" Other then that it is in overall good condition. There is a lable pasted to the bottom of one drawer that says Winchester which does not appearto be original to the piece. If interested please request more pictures. Gromm Trunk Maker 404 Lawrence St. Denver-Col The Pat D date stamped on the lock is Mar 69 which refers to 1869 and does not have a working key. Rare Antique Louis Vuitton Trianon Gray Steamer Trunk 1880's
This trunk has been authenticated by the curator of the Louis Vuitton exhibition in Paris through emails. It's the real deal! This size is a rare half steamer. Measuring 13.5 inches high. 35.5 in wide, and 19.5 inches in depth. This trunk is about 130 years old, has traveled the oceans, and shows it's wear. It does have some condition issues. Please look at the pictures carefully. The inside is covered in the original blue/white striped ticking, and it has it's original removable tray, very rare to find the tray with the trunk! Also original label from the Paris Exhibition with the dates 1867, 1868. You can see half a serial number on the top of label. There is also a Louis Vuitton stamp on the bottom of trunk. A"W" is painted on both side ends. It is very very rare to find a gray, un-monogrammed trunk, This is a piece ... moreof history! The very first trunk Louis Vuitton made was the Trianon gray canvas steamer introduced in 1858. The trunks were made of waterproof-treated canvas with a wooden frame. Previously. Trunks of the day featured rounded tops to facilitate water run-off. Many other designers of the day imitated Louis Vuitton's Flat Topped Trianon Trunk, so in 1876 he changed the plain gray Trianon design to a striped pattern making it harder for his imitators to copy. This trunk is an amazing piece of history. This trunk has a little story behind it. My great grandfather, was the owner of this trunk, I don't know where he got it from, but he was very wealthy, and he owned, a huge mansion, up in the Upper Peninsula of Michigan, witch is very rare, as 99.9% of folks are poor up there, as there is nothing but trees, and water, he had left the estate to my grandfather, about 40 years ago my grandfather never went back to the estate, he let it become basically codemed or he let it go, and it became un-livable, when my grandfather died the estate went to me I didn't know about it so I went and checked out, and I found this trunk hidden between his closet, and a little trap door in what might have been my great grandfathers master bedroom. Rare! Antique Fine Camphor Trunk Box Blanket Linen Dovetail Square Nails Warm
Rare and gorgeous! Antique blanket/linen trunk. I believe(but could be wrong) it's made from camphor w ood. It has a very warm and rich patina that of tobacco if you can imagine. It is very old as you c an see in the un-retouched photos there is very fine. Thin dovetailing along with square nails with oxi dation around them. The hardware is very old and no screws are used anywhere. It is solid construction. There was. At one time, a small box mounted inside to s tore small items. The dimensions are 3 ft long x 17" deep by 19" tall. I do have the two bra ce pieces which you can see the outline for on the under side of the lid. I can place them for you if you li ke or just send them with the trunk. T here was also a key that came with it on a tassel I'm not sure if it was the original key or no t. This is a rare 19th century wooden trunk in wonderful condition. This wooden trunk has a rich. Dark hue and is bound with iron straps. The rich patina and rivets attest to the age of the trunk. The hand forged handles on each end of the trunk are in perfect condition. The heavy iron hinges and latches are reminiscent of medieval iron pieces. The interior of the trunk is in very nice condition and features fine natural wood. This trunk is still in spectacular condition because it was built by skilled craftsmen. It remains a strong and sturdy piece and has no real damage of any kind. It measures 49 1/2" long x 28 1/2" wide x 20" high. I believe the original latches were altered at some point, but the trunk is all original and will be a fine piece for many years to come. Up for consideration is a nice steamer trunk with a lift out tray. It is a Duguid Bros. Wall Trunk from Toledo. Ohio. All hardware and wood has been lightly sanded then sealed with a satin finish for protection. New leather handles were put on. The hinges are dated Dec. 22, 1891. Rare Antique Hide Trunk/Chest from South America
This is a rare antique leather and hide trunk or chest from the South American frontier. These were used by Gauchos to store items being carried on Llamas and by families for storing blankets and house hold items. The chest is very lightweight and has an inner rib like structure made of wood. The remainder of the chest is made entirely of hide or leather. It also has iron hardware on the front. The particular piece is from the estate of Joanne Hearst Castro; granddaughter of William Randolph Hearst. I believe it was from one of her estates in Santiago Chile. Finding these can be extremely difficult. Several antique dealers have priced the items from $1000 to well over $2500. You can see a few for sale on 1st dibs.

Rare Antique Edme Goyard Paris Aine Horse Carriage Trunk Brass Hardware Signed
This is a very rare Goyard carriage trunk. But will need restoration as you can see. The top measures 33 5/8" x 9 1/2" The bottom measures 13" front to back, and the ht. is 10 3/4" The skin is canvas and is bubbling in places and separated at corners. There is damage to the right corner, looks like it got wet at one point) and the steel band has broken and is rusty. There are wooden slats on the inside cover and one of the slats is cracked in half but still in place. This item is a very nice rare vintage wooden flattop steamer half trunk. It measures 24" x 18" x 20. Trunk companies made these small trunks as samples to display the workmanship and the hardware that could be used on the larger trunks. These are very rare. We have been restoring trunks for 17 years and this is only the 4th one we have seen. It does have some small cracks on the top. It has the new leather handles. The latches are in good working order which close securely. It has very heavy hardware with 3 hinges across the back. Antique 1860's Stage Coach Wagon rare trunk leather brass nails old chest
Selling this rarely found stagecoach travel trunk from circa 1860 that has been refinished. The leather of the top of the trunk had shrunk to the point where it could not be reattached to the sides so I covered it with a black buffalo hide that is thick and comfortable to sit on. I think the results are pretty good.There is a minimal color difference between the old and original leather. Every brass nail is original to this trunk. Because the original leather could not be reattached to the top. I built a wooden seat, added some padding and covered it with the new hide. It functions perfectly as a seat. The interior of the trunk has a small door. It is through this small door that users would store their laundry. There is some available space to store some small items. The leather on the bottom. The sides on the top and bottom, are original. ... moreThe dust covers on the sides are original, but the cover on the front is new, as is the lid lifter. There is a lock behind the lid lifter, but there is no key. The interior is lined with come cloth that is dirty in a couple of places. I added two stays to support the lid. Handels are original, not sure how much weight they can support. Over all the trunk's dimensions are 24 x 13 x 14 1/2. I attached a picture of what the trunk looked like before refinished it. This trunk is very nice for its age. It has sticker on side that it was made by Taylor Fibre CO. I took lots of pictures please look close and send questions if need. The hey has is missing. The lock does work. Below is information on Taylor fibre company and there trunks. Vulcanized fibre Vulcanized fibre is a laminated plastic composed of only cellulose. The material is a tough. Resilient, hornlike material that is lighter than aluminium, tougher than leather, and stiffer than most thermoplastics. The newer wood-laminating grade of vulcanized fibre is used to strengthen wood laminations used in skis, skateboards, support beams and as a sub-laminate under thin wood veneers. History The British patent for vulcanized fibre was obtained in 1859 by the Englishman Thomas Taylor.1] He gained the patent after the introduction of celluloid in 1856 ... moreand before the invention of viscose rayon(regenerated cellulose) in 1894. In 1871 Thomas Taylor obtained the United States Patent for vulcanized fibre.2] The first organized industrial company to make vulcanized fibre. Rare Antique Maier Oak Slat Beveled Top Trunk, Vintage, Restored, Tray & Key!
Here is the trunk for your collection! This beautiful rare trunk was made by Martin Maier& Company of Detroit from the 1885 to 1895 period. Based on the actual dates of manufacture of the hardware. If you see a trunk with this type latch it was not made in the 1870's as many other sellers state. Because they were patented in 1882 and used into the late 1890's. I do extensive trunk research. Size: 30" wide. 22 1/2" tall, 20" front to back. A fabulous rare size, great for many uses! Very few Martin Maier slat trunks are found and even fewer flat tops with the beveled corners such as this one. This style was advertised in one of their catalogs as a"Rustic" trunk covered entirely with hardwood slats. Superior quality and based on the Excelsior trunk patent of 1868. Which most people now call Oak Slat Trunks ... moreor Victorian slat trunks. Maier established his trunk company in 1865 after serving in the Civil War. This special trunk is not common in any way! Martin Maier& Co developed their distinctive narrow slat alternating color style trunks and they are very hard to find in such good condition. These are made of hardwood strips of oak or elm and another darker wood, over an all wood body. These trunks were made to be impressive and were more expensive to make than the ordinary metal, leather, or canvas covered trunks. That's probably why they are so rare today. The special corner"lid stay" hinges are marked Pat'd April 1879 and were patented by Martin Maier too! The front catches were patented in 1882. All of the trunk's hardware is in good condition and the wood has no breaks or missing wood. No sand blasting, sanding, or polyurethane coating has been done on this trunk exterior as some other restorers do. The trunk has a very smooth finish, which is hand rubbed tung oil, the finest antique furniture finish. The interior is also beautiful with a large Victorian chromolithograph, and the Maier label! Pre Civil War Antique, All Leather Steamer Trunk. Rare Find!!
For sale is a very rare antique steamer trunk. The trunk is very large and completely covered in brown leather. The leather has some cracks but for 150 years old. The leather is considered in good shape. There are rolling wheels on the bottom and wood slats on the top. The top also had the words"warranted sole leather" imprinted in the leather. This trunk also has possible ties to historic NY(brooklyn) politician JB Wass, who was a consultant to president Ulysses S Grant. If you search the web you can find reports sanctioned by Grant where JB Wass made recommendations on locations of illegal liquor distilleries in Brooklyn) The side of the trunk has personalized label complete with name and address. The inside of the trunk had an incredibly rare drop down compartment with a green envelope type thing attached with gold trim decoration ... moreand logo. Again you will not find a trunk like this. With a history and such an ornate design anywhere. It could use a restoration or would be a great conversation starter as it it stands now. Rare Antique Gold Rush Stagecoach Trunk, 1860's, tray, key, Restored and Lined
A beautiful and rare stagecoach or"gold rush" style American trunk made from about the mid 1860's to 1870. It measures 31 1/2 inches wide. 20 inches tall, 18 inches deep. Made of thick pine with metal banding and hardwood slats, attached with dozens of large brass buttons! A fabulous and impressive looking trunk which is very hard to find with six bands and in such great condition. The original lock is complete with the fancy brass cover and working key. The handles are the original style, sliding arrow design, attached with the original holders and brass buttons. A new all wood tray was made which makes the trunk much more useful inside. It was thoroughly cleaned out and relined with nice quality fabric in blue and off-white colors. A great size trunk. 31" wide from edge to edge, 23" tall and 20" deep. This outstanding trunk is a highly sought after Victorian Slat Trunk made by Martin Maier& Co. of Detroit, Michigan. Martin Maier slat trunks are quite rare, and the bevel corner, flat top is the scarcest of the styles. These trunks were referred to as the"Rustic" style in the Maier Trunk catalog. The Pine or Basswood box was covered entirely with hardwood slats to make it very strong. Every other slat is dark wood to produce a very dramatic affect. This trunk has been carefully cleaned, restored, and coated with Tung Oil finish. The original lock is in great working condition with the key included. Here is a beautiful rare trunk/chest it has two metals handles at either side which is unusual. It comes with it's original key and the lock works very well. This is a very old trunk lined with either Japanese or Chinese old newspapers( any help or information on the newspaper inside and what it says would be appreciated) then there is a hessian lining on top of that. The interior is lined with what looks like pine. It has oak banding and nice ornate brass catches. The lock is very nice and unusual as you can see in the photo it is very ornate and is a double lock. The exterior is lined with some sort of metal overall is in very good condition for its age. Rare and Rustic. Antique Hide Covered Round Top Trunk- 1831! This amazing trunk dates back to when Andrew Jackson was president of the United States! Trunk is lined with newspaper from the Christian Intelligencer( April. 1831) The Christian Intelligencer was in publication between 1830 and 1920. It was printed and published in New York for an association of members of the Protestant Reformed Dutch Church. The trunk is highly adorned with brass nail heads. Steel plates and various types of leather. Hand forged iron handles on each end and a nice simple lock show off some serious craftsmanship. An old gouge repair is seen above the lock which was sewn with sinew. Condition is very good for the age and unbelievable journey this item has traveled. Uncertain what wood this is. Lid is still very straight with no major bowing or warping. Much of ... morethe soft. Deerskin hide has worn off, though some is still present in places. Unfortunately, the hide on this trunk has been peeled off, cut and removed in places. At one time the large brass nails spelled out the owners initials on the lid: SB" The hide is missing from the following areas: top middle section. the entire back and right side and the lower left side. We are guessing someone was looking to refurbish it many years ago? That is why these trunks are so rare. the ugly ducklings of history that get lost forever. There are no keys for the unmarked lock. The right front edge of the lid has split away slightly. Hinges were made of leather( present but long broken) Please see our pictures for more information on detail and condition. The brass hardware is all present and has not been highly polished, to preserve the aged patina. It could be polished if desired. The leather trim, corners, and handles are intact with typical signs of wear. The leather has all been treated with professional leather treatment polish. It is hard to find ornate trunk handles of this style that are still intact. The trunk is a great size for use as a table if desired. Condition notes: This trunk is in very good used condition. But there are signs of age and use which are typical for a trunk of 100 years or more in age. There are some minor issues I want to describe. This trunk was produced somewhere between 1888-1896(the time frame of the Damier pattern) The Damier patterned trunks are some of the rarest and most desirable of all the antique Louis Vuitton trunks! A majority of the canvas has been removed but the remaining canvas(on the inside areas of the lid) appears to be the more rare RED& WHITE on brown color combination as opposed to the light brown and dark brown patterns. Much more so than the Louis Vuitton's, but there were very few made with the grooved slats. I've had several suggest that this is a Martin Meier trunk, but I cannot confirm that to be true. The trim has been painted with 2 coats of flat black paint. Very solid trunk all around, nicely built, hinges are strong. The handles have been replaced with new 3-ply leather for many more years of life. The interior of this trunk is second to none and in my opinion is the best you'll find in the marketplace. A friend of mine does most of my trunk interiors. She's been doing trunks for 30+ years and her work is exceptional. RARE SMALL SIZE 1880's VICTORIAN WOOD SLAT FLAT TOP TRUNK - REFINISHED
I am listing a rare sized smaller flat top trunk from the Victorian era. This trunk measures only 26" long x 14" wide x 16" tall. I think this might have been a child's or woman's trunk back in the day. I have restored this old trunk. Leaving the original handles in place. The inside has been redone as well and looks really nice. The alligator style type metal has been highlighted with copper giving it a real elegant look.
