Offered for bids is an early 19th century Sheraton chest of drawers measuring 42 ½” high& 40” wide. Top measures 40 ½” wide& is 19 ¾“ deep with an appropriate rear over hang. Four graduated drawers with matching flame veneered fronts. I suspect this might be walnut but may also be a brown mahogany. Bought out of Reading PA. All drawers are dovetailed& beaded. The drawers runners are worn but run smoothly. There is some small chipping to the beading. One of the balls of the right front foot has a chip. Retains its locks. Brasses are replacements. Evidence of other pulls. The chest has been refinished at least once. There are some cross grain scratches on the sides from previous stripping. A section of which is missing on the left door, and most on the right door. The shovel is missing from the back and there are yea rs o f minor knocks which add to the wonderful patina. This is a very nice solid mahogany chest of drawers made in USA. Its in pretty good condition. There is ebony string inlay to the drawers. It sits on square tapered legs. I think the handle are the original ones and also the original locks. As you can see by the back and drawer linings its pretty old. Measurements are are 36 wide. 18 deep, 34 high.

Antique Mahogany Gilt Stationery / Letter / Desk Box
Lovely Antique Mahogany Gilt Desk Box with Lockable Front(Unlocked but no Key) Possibly used as a Stationary box. A letter storage box. This box is rather old. It has a charm about it, despite the damage taken. It has a wonderful deep red-brown mahogany finish with brass coloured fittings. Inside the box there are 4 compartments, separated by 3 removable(by sliding up and out) mahogany wooden panels, the center panel is rather stiff and doesn't come out easily. There are two metallic(brass? handles either side of the box for easy lifting. There is also a small ring on the lid that could lift the box went the box is locked, or lift the lid when unlocked. The damage to the box is mainly cosmetic. But fairly significant: there is a large triangular shaped piece of wooden guilt missing from the bottom of the front face of the box, some missing ... morewooden at the box's mouth, and more on the corners of the lid. A pin is missing from the top lock piece on the front, and has made this part slightly loose. As mentioned before, the box is unlocked but the key is missing. With center drawer slightly wider. Small"splash" board at the back. Molding on the sides and front of the top. The legs consist of 2 vertical banks of 3 similar-sized drawers on each side of the"knee hole. A simple band across the base of the desk in place of feet. Which is typical for this period. Here is a great Antique Mahogany Silverware Chest for your buying consideration. Recently acquired it at an estate sale. Would make a great gift or keep it for yourself! Beautiful older Silverware Chest made by Gladwin Ltd. of Britain on it. Also has the name of Sheffield on it. Appears to be an Embassy model. The brass escutcheon is still in place on the top of the piece. Shows some wear. Does not appear to have ever had anything engraved into it. Just a beautiful mahogany case here with brass trim. The top of the case is still securely attached to the case by it's hinges. The top of the case has two splits in it along where the top ... moredrops off to the front and back edge. The brass handles to carry the case are still in place and look good. The inside of the case and the two drawers have some sort of green felt in it that shows some wear. Some of the blue felt still on the bottom of the piece to protect the surface it is put on. The Silverware Chest is 12.5" tall. By 20.25" across, by 15" wide. The second thing that strikes you about this purdonium is the colour and patination. The cabinetmaker that made this purdonium chose some very good quality timbers for the job. This has resulted all these years later in a purdonium with a gorgeous soft rich warm colour and patination that can only be attained by mahogany of this age and quality. Thirdly are the proportions. The design of this purdonium is just right and the purdonium benefits from having a good balance.
