Victorian Swing Arm Sash Lock with Porcelain Knob
This is a sash lock that I had salvaged from an antique window. The sash lock does not match the rest of my current locks; however upon purchase the lock was covered in multiple layers of paint(took hours and patients to remove the paint) The lock is cast Iron and there is rust. And appears to be of the East Lake design. I cannot determine the year, but I would guess to the time frame would be 1870's- 1890's(probably earlier in that time period because of the porcelain) The main swing arm is missing the narrow metal stays that fully secures the locking, but the arm does swing and work. There is little bit of residual paint left over. The Catch plate measures: 2" L x 1" W x 3/8" H and the Latch measures: 2 3/8" L x 7/8" W x 1 1/2" H.

Here for sale in my opinion is a rare Victorian solid brass window sash lock that was probably made by Eastlake. I cleaned it up somewhat so you could see the beauty of this lock and it also is in great working order. I hope my pictures show how ornate or intricate this lock is. As you can see in my pictures it has stamped on it PAT Jan 4 and June 13 1876. Hard to believe this lock is 138 years old. There are two different patterns here. Pictured, and each measure 1-7/8 inches tall. Two do not have a top cap, and one is missing the spring. To operate pull the handle end knob to unlock and turn to unlatch. To latch simply turn the handle and the spring-loaded lock engages. All are embossed on the back RE Co. for Russell Erwin. Clarance Howard Blackall in his chapter on sash locks in the 1889 book Builders Hardware describes this type of lock thusly. ... moreThe lever is on the lower sash hooking under a tooth on the upper sash which is beveled so as to draw the sashes more closely together. A strong spring about the axle of the lever tends to throw it open while a small bolt inside the lever locks into a concealed catch on the post or axle of the lever. The bolt ends in a knob and is fitted with a spring which keeps it pressed tightly towards the center so that the lever is caught and held when it is turned clear around through 90 degrees.
