Mansion Sale: Large Antique 19th Century Oak Chest Coffer Mule Trunk Box Storage
Last year. April-June, I made a lot of eBayers very happy! I held a big sale of antique paintings and other items(over 100! from a large London mansion. Enthusiastic buyers won LOTS of wonderful family heirlooms for very little(see my 100% feedback! and came to pick them up from the house(a few minutes walk from London's Oxford Circus) I'd intended to move out and spent the rest of the year abroad. I'm now back in the UK and the place is(contrary to planning) still mine! So I'm back in the old house again, temporarily, and will be selling a few more things until my final move. Some of these things are items I hadn't intended to sell, so I hope you find something you like! Large 19th Century Oak Chest with Brass Lion's Feet and Older Parts. Used for Bedroom Blanket Box. Storage Chest/Trunk/Box"A grand old chest! ... moreFor years this has been a magical dressing up box! It's full of lots of antique costumes and accessories. Younger relations head straight for it when they visit! But it would be good as a blanket box or general storage. It's very tall and has a huge amount of space. It looks a bit more impressive than many similar items. Having some grand trimmings, almost armorial. The carvings on the front are very imposing and clearly of some age. This type of carving often surrounded a coat of arms, which may have been removed in years gone by. It also has some lovely brass lion's feet(which really need shining up…they'll look really good when polished! We believe the front of the chest is much old than the rest. It's not uncommon to have wooden furniture rebuilt over the years. Often when they suffer from woodworm or general wear. One of the four rosettes on the front isn't there(I've only just noticed this, after all these years! It's dark wood, so you don't really notice. This is a very clean large oak trunk that has a variety of uses such as a blanket chest. Toy chest, or wonderful coffee table. It is made of solid oak with the original finish that has a nice patina and is finished on all sides including the back. The inside of the trunk has been painted red but can be stripped back to the natural oak. The trunk is 48" wide, 22" deep, and 24 1/2" tall. There is a piano hinge that opens the top. There is a lock but I do not have the key. The trunk was originally on rollers. Old Iron Lock & Key for Antique Pine/Oak Blanket Box/Chest/Trunk/Coffer
Here for sale is an old iron lock with its original working key suitable to use on an old pine blanket box or trunk. It measures 3 1/2 inches wide. 2 1/2 inches high and 3/4 inch depth. The measurement from the top face to the centre of the key is 1 1/4 inch. The key measures 2 5/8 inches long. The main body of the lock housing the workings is 7/16 inch thick. The top face is 3/4 inch. Please note. The receiver isn't the original to the lock. It fits fine but when locked it doesn't lock tight. I have taked a picture of it upside down to show the small gap when locked.

Wonderful antique oak trunk or chest. Six-sided construction with molding around the bottom. Overhanging top has a raised panel inside a frame made using mortise and tenon joints. A small smooth notch has been carved into the front to allow the user to lower the lid without crushing their fingers. Sturdy wrap-around hinges hold the lid in place and interior corner-braces help keep the trunk solid. A more recent looking chain is also attached between the trunk body and lid. This piece has a ton of character and has definitely been put to use during its time. Probably dates from the mid to late 1800's Although it has some obvious wear. Including dents and dings, paint marks and other cosmetic damage, the piece is in very good condition. The entire trunk stands 17.5" tall. It is 19 1/4" wide and 31.5" long. This antique two-drawer chest has tons of character. The wood looks like oak and has been painted black on the sides and around the drawers on the front. Panelled sides and an overhanging molded top as well as molding at the base. Drawers have intricately designed metal pulls and there are circular wooden escutcheons surrounding the two keyholes. Sorry. No keys! The drawers have been assembled with strong doweled joints. Overall. This piece is in good condition, however there is obvious wear as you can see from the pictures. The front corners of the overhanging top have broken away and there is also damage to the framing of the drawer fronts on both sides. Paint and finishes look original, but have some significant wear to them. There are also some small holes in the top that look like they were made by nails. The piece has three drawers with silver plated brass handles. The bottom of which contains a silver plate ink well and compartments. The oak body is finished in a very fine shellac which is in exceptional condition throughout. The doors and top of the piece are adorned with shield shaped bosses. A relatively new green baize base has been installed sometime mid 20th century. For a full description of the piece's condition see above. Here is a beautiful rare trunk/chest it has two metals handles at either side which is unusual. It comes with it's original key and the lock works very well. This is a very old trunk lined with either Japanese or Chinese old newspapers( any help or information on the newspaper inside and what it says would be appreciated) then there is a hessian lining on top of that. The interior is lined with what looks like pine. It has oak banding and nice ornate brass catches. The lock is very nice and unusual as you can see in the photo it is very ornate and is a double lock. The exterior is lined with some sort of metal overall is in very good condition for its age. This is a beautiful piece of furniture for any home perfect for a coffee table or secure storage box because it has the key. STUNNING QUARTERSAWN TIGER-OAK CHEST OR TRUNK WITH BRASS. DATED 1877 ~ 1902 ❖ This awesome trunk looks like it may have been a Sea Captains Chest. Or Silver Chest? In any case for something, someone very fine. The hand-engraved monogramed brass plate in the center of the lid is hand engraved with a gorgeous"K" with the dates 1877& 1902. Not sure exactly what that might indicate about this chest. Certainly its all gorgeous. The quarter-sawn Tiger Oak is spectacular. The brass corners appear to me custom or handmade. It's all beautifully put together with lapped rebated joints& inlaid walnut splines inside. This combination of the old solid brass hardware. Clean lines and quartersawn golden-oak give this chest an Arts& Crafts feel. It's a perfect height for a coffee-table or end-table. Condition of this chest is ... morefine to very fine. To my eye. Age-related character marks seem appropriate. The bottom looks like it may have at some point been replaced with laminated plywood, but it looks to be a clean job, all recessed underneath so as not to be visible at all. Might be a screw lost here or there, but nothing problematic that I see, and similar brass screws are available if desired. We've cleaned this piece carefully and rubbed it with fine wax to protect. Measures about 18" high. 28" wide& 20-1/4" deep. EXTREMELY RARE! This is an antique chest intended to keep food warm. According to Early American Life Magazine(1982) Many of these were made commercially with from one to four containers. It may have been made for an orthodox Jewish family that cooked it's meal on Friday for serving on Saturday at noonday, since the faith did not permit them to light a fire on the Sabbath. It's a nice size chest for using as a piece to set knick-knacks or a table lamp on in any room. I've personally owned it for over 20 yrs and like that it's not so big and clunky. This is a dome top(some call it a hump top) trunk which to me is great just the way it is(lots of character) or refinished would be a marvelous piece. It's big. Antique ca. 1885 R. Bliss Oak Three Drawer Machinist Chest Box
This is an Antique ca.1885 Solid Oak R. Bliss. Pawtucket, R. I. three drawer Machinist tool chest. The R. Bliss Mfg. Co. was founded by Rufus Bliss in 1832. It is larger than most machinist chests, at 24"x 14.5"x 12.5"tall and weighs 25 lbs. It has an English made steel lock with working key and brass hardwear. There is a device that locks the drawers when the lid is closed. The end panels are walnut with cast-iron decorative lifting handles. There is a Bliss imprint on the bottom. The top compartment and the three drawers have been relined with dark green felt. Look carefully at the photos. No returns.
