Offered for bids is an early 19th century Sheraton chest of drawers measuring 42 ½” high& 40” wide. Top measures 40 ½” wide& is 19 ¾“ deep with an appropriate rear over hang. Four graduated drawers with matching flame veneered fronts. I suspect this might be walnut but may also be a brown mahogany. Bought out of Reading PA. All drawers are dovetailed& beaded. The drawers runners are worn but run smoothly. There is some small chipping to the beading. One of the balls of the right front foot has a chip. Retains its locks. Brasses are replacements. This is an unusual walnut veneered'sewing or games' box which is permanently fixed to four cabriole legs with pad feet. It has previously been used as a sewing box and the interior is lined with blue silk. The top. Front and back of the box are quarter veneered. There is slight damage to the veneer on one corner of the lid(see photo) the rest of the piece is generally in good condition. General dimensions are 745mm high, 450mm wide and 352mm deep. The box dimensions are 238mm high, 385mm wide and 297mm deep. Enlarge the pictures to see the detail. The standard size dining chair is to give an idea of scale only. It is a rare design e4specially since most of us arn't tall enough to see inside the top row of drawers. Each row consists of either three smaller drawers across, or one large drawer. The entire piece of furniture is made up of two sections, the top and the bottom. The top of the piece fits into the bottom without needing any type of hardware to attach them togather. About mis section there is a flat rather thin board which pulls out like one of the drawers, but is intended to act as a folding table. The entire piece is handmade from frame to finish The workmanship of the day was impeccable and the vaneering composition and application is completely without compare Each drawer is trimmed around the perimetor with a light maple of about a 1/2 inch all around. This is not a piece that one has to just look at, this is a full service, everyday working chest that still has many many years of service left in her. Antique Miniature / Childs Sheraton Period Walnut Chest
This is a walnut Sheraton period miniature or child's chest. It is handmade exhibiting early nailed construction drawers. It has pine drawer bottoms and back. The primary wood is walnut and the secondary wood is pine. Very nice inlaid false key holes that appear to be maple. It is likely from the Sheraton or Empire period. It measures 16" by 16" by 7" It is an absolute knockout when you see it in person. Pictures in no way do it justice. It is missing both end pieces for the top. They could easily be replaced but its not at all necessary. Truly a gem of a piece and sure to be one of the favorites of any collection. Even the bottom! Not sure which type of wood. Has a walnut richness& depth to it, or maybe cherry? In any case, these boards used to make this chest came from a very old, huge tree. The construction is gorgeous. Beautiful dovetailing, the classical legs look hand-turned. The moldings look like they may have been hand-planed, certainly the bottom shows signs of hand-planning. Lots of character to this chest. Feels like it could have been in an old home for generations. The surface shows plenty of living history& use, lending this chest a very rich, lived-in quality, as opposed to formal& untouchable as sometimes old chests can be) ... moreI've tried to show the aged patina and surfaces in the photos. Very charming in its worn qualities, but solid, expertly crafted to be used and enjoyed, its lasted for the ages and will last many more. Looks like the heroically wide board comprising the top shrank a bit width-wise(wood wasn't so kiln-dried in those days) So in this season the top is tight& rests just shy of level, perhaps the dry cold winter for a piece made south of here, a little trim would likely fix this permanently if you'd prefer, but it all looks great to me! It's an excellent size. Measuring about 24" high, almost 36" wide& nearly 18-1/2" deep. UPDATE REGARDING SHIPPING: This item should ship UPS. We're working around the eBay shipping calculator glitch by specifying freight for this larger item. The freight calculator seems to work better than the shipping calculator. This is a beautiful. Antique original, unrestored, 19th century, circa 1885, walnut cased, table top Symphonium, schutz marke, harmony music box. The top is decorated and engraved with birds in foliage and gilt lions head, ringed handle. Inside the top to the interior are four cherubs playing musical instruments behind a glass and gilt edged picture frame. Please take time to look at all 12 photos to fully appreciate the quality and workmanship in this superb music box! The beautiful undamaged disc mechanism is behind a second glass hinged door. Allowing you to watch the 12 inch music discs playing and bearing the serial number 64414 to the twin note, double comb mechanism, with a type 11 5/8 ratchet wind, all the mechanical teeth are present and undamaged, overall the mechanical mechanism is in excellent working condition. This music box ... moreis fairly similar to the model 25A in David Bowers"Encyclopaedia of Automatic Musical Instruments" page 220. Condition of the 129 year old walnut box. The hand crafted walnut box is all original and unrestored and as such does have some age related wear/tear as shown in my photos which is consistent and commensurate with its age. This box could very easily be sympathetically restored. But personally we like the originality of the box with its knocks, bumps, dinks, chips, and scratches. to us it just gives you that feel. it's seen some honest life! This symphonium has come out of an Isle of Man estate sale. And the previous owner was a keen member of the music box society and very mechanically minded, hence the mechanism of this music box has been very well maintained. We have tested this music box and its playing beautifully. With a little research you'll find these 1885 music boxes are only supposed to be ratchet levered once for 30 minutes of play. So you need to be aware/careful not to over wind this unit. The start stop lever on the left side works and you can just hear the flywheel disengage when stopped. Nicely crafted, the diminutive chest with single hidden drawer above three drawers fitted with two brass handles and key escutcheon(non-functioning) the lower drawers flanked by full columns on either side. The primary wood and veneers appear to be walnut or a similar hardwood with what appear to be oak and pine/poplar secondary woods. Dimensions: 12.25" high x 17" wide x 9.75" deep. Weight: 11 lbs. Condition: Overall. The chest is in good condition with normal wear consistent with age. There surface of the chest with light scratches and dents from years of handling and use; the brass fittings ... morelightly oxidized. This was really a great find.a turn of the century Late Ottoman Turkish or Middle Eastern inlaid with mother of pearl walnut chest or dowry or blanket box. The pattern involves stars and other geometric shapes and some carvings that resemble birds and it is in very good condition. Patina is beautiful and finish is original. The base is an interesting combination of incised lines and inlaid mother of pearl stars on a reticulated base. It is all hand dovetailed. Height = 19 5/8" Length = 33 5/8" Depth = 16 5/8" Add a piece of glass to the top and have the perfect coffee or even side table. These old antique inlaid mother of pearl chests and tables and trunks are very flexible as they can be added to man different decors. Antique 1846 Meyer Family Immigrant's Trunk.German Walnut,dovetail,forged iron. Another Bygone Antiques great find! This trunk is dated 1846 and has the name Meyer on the front. Unfortunately the first name is not legible. It is made entirely of walnut. All four sides are from a single board. There are no nails. Fasteners are all dovetails and pegs. The handles, hinges and hasp are all hand forged iron. The lighter color of the wood around the rim where the lid closes indicates that there was likely a wooden lip at this joint. There is a key hole but no lock. There is a ditty box on the left end with three tiny hidden drawers. There are some splits and cracks in the wood. Antique 19th C 4 Drawer Walnut Queen Anne Chest Warsaw Furniture Company Truly a beautiful antique estate found piece of furniture I good as found condition. Damaged on front top left corner see photos and normal wear for age to original finish. Solid brass hardware. Beautifully carved detailing, 4 drawers with pull out writing or serving surface. Walnut we flame mahogany drawer fronts. Manufactured by the Warsaw furniture company in Warsaw Kentucky early to mid 19th century. Measures 35" wide x 30 3/4" tall x 20 1/2" deep Local pick up only but willing to store as long as necessary to make pick up arrangements. But must be paid with PayPal at close of auction. One of a kind walnut slat covered trunk. In the style of the original Excelsior patent 1868 trunks! Size: 24" wide. 21 1/2" tall, 17" deep. Custom made antique style Victorian wood slat trunk. Made from solid walnut and cypress lining with antique hardware and working brass Eagle lock with key. Great for so many uses including coffee table. Bedroom storage, retirement or graduation chest, sea captain style chest for your yacht, etc. This is a rare flat top trunk style with an"octagon top" or beveled corners. Hand built by master craftsman John Head, this slat trunk is truly a one-of-a-kind trunk, and only ONE exists like this! Patterned after the rare original Excelsior slat trunks patented in 1868, John uses all authentic antique trunk hardware items and locks, plus hand cut wood slats, to skillfully produce a masterpiece ... morethat rivals the Victorian era high grade trunks. Every detail of this trunks reveals the high quality materials and workmanship and many hours of time devoted to making a fine work of art that is already a limited edition collector's item. Only ONE of this type trunk will ever be made! The brass slat clamps, lock, latches, handle holders, and other hardware items are antique, the rest of the parts including exterior wood slats, leather straps, sheet metal, and handles are new, but with an antique look. The trunk is constructed like the 120 year old slat trunks, with solid wood slats attached over a thick wood body of beautiful cypress, sheet metal edging and bottom, and iron lid banding, The trunk is finished with several coats of very durable, water resistant satin tung oil varnish. The trunk is fabulous looking and very strong, solid, and heavy. The interior tray is designed after the fashionable trunks of the 1860's period. John includes his own trunk makers label in the lid, as the trunk makers of the 1800's, and each is numbered and signed.
