Strap Hinge Lot 1860's Hand Forged
8 pair(16 pieces) hand forged strap hinges and 4 slide bolts all from the same 1860's house. The 10 foot tall shutters have been re-used and the hardware is not needed. We were going to save them and use on other projects but they will probably get forgotten. The straps are 19 1/2" long. The hanging pins are not available. Only a few pieces of the hardware are pictured because they are still being removed. The last 2 pictures show them repurposed as well as when they were still installed on the home. This is large antique hand forged iron strap door hinge.it is 39" long and 2" in width at its widest. It still has the original old hand forged spike nails in it. Which all have curled ends from where they were curved back down at the ends to be secure into the door this hinge once graced. It is in its original state with appropriately enough surface rust. Two large barn door strap hinges with lots of character. Measures 27" long. These were used on a very old industrial building. They both have a couple of bends/tweaks to them but overall very good shape. The top one does have the edge of the hinge(not the strap part) that has a bent corner that needs hammered back out. There is even a smaller hinge included with the two large ones.

For your consideration is a set of six old barn/ gate strap hinges. Each hinge has a 12" overall length. The 5 hole mounting plate is 5 1/2" tall by 2 1/2" wide to the center of the pin. The 4 hole mounting plate is 3" tall with an overall length 10" to the center of the pin. The steel is aproximately 1/8" thick and each hinge is weighs just over 1 1/2 pounds. I have pulled the pins on each one to make sure none were broken and each hinge moves as it should. These hinges are being sold as found with dirt. Rust and a little paint on them.

Antique STEAM AGE STRAP IRON Door HINGE-BLACKSMITH Hand-Forged/Shaped 1-200 Years Old UNUSUAL ~I am 83 and my grandparents had a large. Prosperous family farm in rural Pennsylvania between State College and Harrisburg. It is STILL rural there and, while the farm no longer exists, the original farmhouse and several of the other buildings are still there and in use by family members. ~Hinge is a total of 13 inches long and close to 1-3/4 inches wide. ~Hand-forged. Hand-beaten, hand-shaped iron is fairly strong, and made by a blacksmith. The hand hammered strokes done to temper and shape it are clearly visible-almost every one. So it was either made by a city or town blacksmith or, more than likely, it was made for farm use. ~Farms usually had a smithy with all necessary tools on their grounds along with a blacksmith who could manufacture odds ... moreand ends such as this one. Repair tools, make tools as needed, etc. It was an easier and more efficient system than having to go into town for every need along those lines. ~This hinge comes from Pennsylvania. Many old barns there still being used date back to the 1700's and early 1800's in Colonial. Pre-Colonial, and pre-Civil War times. They are amazing and a marvel to just look at them inside and out! ~Most likely used to hold up a rather substantial door. Probably on a barn or farm outbuilding. ~It was made to take a lot of weight. 1/4-inch thickness of entire unit attests to that! Wrap-around circular end would have been mounted on a thick iron spike on a heavy mount and brace that was securely built into the wooden or stone building wall. eB82914I)

Antique Metal Strap Hinge Architecture Hardware Brass?
Up for auction is an antique metal strap hinge recently found at auction in the Lancaster County PA area. It is offered in as found used condition. There is a bend at one end. Best seen in photo#5. This hinge is made of metal and do not attract a magnet. Probably brass, but quite patented. As a result, it is difficult to determine the metal, but it shows very nice, dark original patina. It measures approximately 7 1/2" ix 2 7/8" and can use up to eight 1/4" screws, not included. Similar hinges are found on ice boxes or where a heavy door must be supported A nice piece if needed. This is an original antique hand forged wrought iron barn door strap hinge. This. Along with several others I will be listing, were pulled from an old estate in upstate New York and my guess is they date to the early 1800's. This blacksmith made strap hinge has an ornate tip and round holes. It is sturdy and appears to be structural sound. Does have pitting and wear that just adds to the overall patina and appeal. An absolutely beautiful piece of american architectural history that will compliment any decor. Measures roughly 1-1/2" in width and 19-1/2" in length.
