Large Vintage Brass Mail Magazine Letter Door Spring Loaded Slot Complete
This very nice large vintage mail and magazine door slot is a fully functional piece that could also be re-purposed. There are some numbers on the inside ends that are shown in some photos. But I saw no identifying manufacturers' marks. Overall measurements are 15 7/8" x 3 7/8" Slot measurements are 12 1/4" x 2 1/2" This will work on a door up to 1 3/4" thick with the original screws that are provided. Good vintage as found condition. Meaning it has some of the old sealant and weatherstripping foam still on the inside surfaces. Nice patina! Use the zoom to confirm the condition!

Vintage Cast Iron Mail Slot Door LETTERS Victorian Antique Patented 1881 1800's
Sorry for the out-of-focus pictures. This is believed to be a vintage mail slot door from the late 1800's due to the patent date and apparent age. I could imagine the nice old Victorian home this must've been mounted to. The door says LETTERS and the back of the frame says PATENTED AUG. 2. 81. The impression is in very good shape but wouldn't photograph well. I have a cheap camera that does not focus well at close range. The back of the door is marked 8035 and the impression is also very good. It apparently is cast iron and has rust on it. Part of the front has a lighter color coating on it; I don't know what it is. But it seems to scrape off with a fingernail. I don't want to risk damaging the unit by trying to clean it or using a rust remover. The frame pattern has a lot of fancy x's and what look like flowers at ... morethe middle of the top and bottom and around the two mounting holes. This would probably be a relatively easy restoration project for someone's house or possibly even use or display as is. The door moves freely and the spring that shuts it is broken at the end that contacts the door; the rest of the spring is there. Measures approximately 7 1/2" wide by 2 5/8" high. What an exciting find.fresh from a local estate: a solid brass antique letter/mail opening/slot for a door. Dates from the early part of the 20th Century and backplate measures 8 1/2" long overall. It is 3 3/4" tall. The long screws on the back which go through the door are 2 3/8" long. The measurement of the long screws is 6 1/2" on center. This measurement is where it would go through the door itself. There are some numbers on the underside of the bail handle. 378?38 and Reg'd. Condition is excellent: no damage, nice patina, nothing missing, the handle is secure. This is ready to install in your door. the end of one wire is sticking out and needs to be bent back) This is an original. NOT a reproduction. Please let me begin by apologizing to the bidders and watchers who were interested in this item prior to this revision by LOWERING THE PRICE A BIT! The listing was erroneous hence corrections made and here we go again. This highly ornate and well made m ail slot is by far the securest and safest way to receive your mail. Right in the privacy of your own foyer! This is a beautiful wrought iron affair which includes the faceplate for the front of the door and an additional plate to compliment it on the inside of the door to keep the curious from being able to peek inside through the slot. I'm sure it also helps to keep the frigid air from getting in also! The paint on the front piece has chips in it as you can see in the photo's, the inside plate kept it's paint pretty well intact. The paint does not look so pitted as it appears ... morein the photo's it looks much smoother. The dimensions of this beauty are 9.5' x 2' 3/4 The screw holes are 7' apart. This mail slot was salvaged from the door of a 1920's house in Dayton. Ohio. The entire unit is solid brass.and QUITE HEAVY. It took every fiber of my being to not clean the brass on this slot or the interior door piece. There is a dull patina to the brass. But there is also paint. I will leave it to the purchaser to determine what level of"restoration" this gets. This is one of those big. Heavy duty, beautiful and functional rarities that when you touch it you think, They just don't make stuff like this anymore. Vintage Antique Brass Mail Letter Slot with Integrated Door Knocker Art Nouveau
Up for auction is a wonderfully old antique or vintage combination mail letter slot and door knocker. I believe this is from the 1920s. The slot/knocker is likely solid brass. It weighs 1.3 pounds. As you can see from the photos it needs a serious cleaning/polishing- however, as I have no idea if the buyer would prefer to have this'history' cleaned off or not- I'm leaving it as is. The outside measurement of the slot/knocker is approximately 7.5" x 3.75" The inside slot opening is approximately 4.5" x 1& 1/8" The slot/knocker is in nice condition given its age- however. You are bidding on an Antique Vintage Victorian Ornate Cast Iron East Lake Letter Mail Door Slot. The piece is 7" long. It is 2 1/8" wide. The inside measures 4 3/4" across and about 1" tall. It has a nice East Lake design. The spring works but it is not strong. It has minor paint residue on the front and the back has been painted. It is ready to use. The overall condition is very good.
