It comes apart and goes back together easily. But is not sloppy; it's secure and ready to be put to use. Size: The back is stamped: 3 1/2 3 1/2 Age/ Date: I'd estimate that this hinge dates from the late 1800's. While I can't say for certain it is over 100 years old. I can say that it looks that old. Recently removed from a house located in northwest ohio that was built in 1895. We removed all the doors. Wavy glass windows, wood work& trim located in the house. Pair of Eastlake Hinges 3 1/2" Steeple top and Bottom- Antique Victorian Circa 1880s Cast Iron. Measuring 3 1/2" x 3 1/2" and stamped on the back Total length with tips is 6" Polished.So nice and clean, but one steeple pin on each is damaged. On one. It is slightly bent, and extended up beyond where it should sit. On the other, the tip is also extended up, and the bottom of the steeple has a large chip. Ornate Eastlake Victorian style Ball Tip Door Hinge Half w Pin 3 1/2 x 3 1/2
Hinge was broken at some point. So there is only one half of the hinge left. You can clearly see the broken hinge pieces that are still on the pin. I have not attempted to remove the ball pin to remove the broken pieces. Not sure what kind of metal, but possibly bronze. Nice and solid.
