Older estate find. This auction is for a pair of vintage cast iron shutter hinges marked on the backs of each"ON HOUSE" and"ON BLIND" Blind is a another word for shutter. These type of hinges are made so the shutter can be lifted off for cleaning or painting. Also once the shutter is opened it"locks" by dropping down in a notch so it has to be lifted slightly to close. I believe these are called Shepard hinges from what I could find in a turn of the century hardware catalog, or at least similar to that type. Welcome to my listing. You are buying 2 Shutter dogs GRAPES bunch old rustic cast iron late 1800's curtain tiebacks This set of 2 shutter dogs have a fancy casting with a pedestal base. They also would make great curtain tiebacks. This is a very rare pattern. There were not many cast like this. These are the old. Original heavy duty castings with their many layers of paint removed. There is over 1.3 pounds of iron in each shutter dog. They were sprayed with clear acrylic lacquer finish made by Sherwin Williams that is specially made for cast iron and exterior applications. This is a better finish than a hardware store spray paint. This clear finish has superior scratch and water resistance. These have a fancy casting with nice vintage patina. The base is wrought iron and the shutter dog is a bunch of grapes cast into face of the shutter ... moredog. These are not reproductions! They were likely cast in the late 1800's or early 1900's. These would look great on your house to help bring back that vintage look of years gone by. The last picture shows how the shutter dogs were used on a house. I have discovered they were shutter dog/hinges. amongst other interesting. Lot of 4 Antique Cast Iron Shutter Hinges & Ornate Gate Hardware - Handle, Latch
I recently acquired these at an estate sale and they were bought attached to a display board. I hit the pieces with a dry scrub brush and easily knocked most of the surface rust off. I think hitting them with a wire brush and some primer could bring them right back. Please see item condition and pictures for more details. Antique Window Shutter Dogs hardware Cast Iron Grapes Set lot of 10 matching
This antique lot of 10 shutter dogs is probably circa late 1800's or turn of the century. They are rustic cast iron grape formations. They are all the same size. Approx. 5.5 inch long and 2.75 wide. The hex bolts are shorter on three of the dogs. Eight are a complete set of 4 lefts and 4 rights. One pair of left and right have the shorter hex bolts and the two bolts are slightly different lengths. The remaining two shutter dogs are both singles. These are primarily a deep forest green paint currently as found over the cast iron works with some other paint from the years here n there. The rods are rustic as well.
