Older estate find. This auction is for a pair of vintage cast iron shutter hinges marked on the backs of each"ON HOUSE" and"ON BLIND" Blind is a another word for shutter. These type of hinges are made so the shutter can be lifted off for cleaning or painting. Also once the shutter is opened it"locks" by dropping down in a notch so it has to be lifted slightly to close. I believe these are called Shepard hinges from what I could find in a turn of the century hardware catalog, or at least similar to that type. Acme Lull and Porter Exterior Shutter Hinges and Fasteners These are brand new. In the package, Antique Reproductions of the old Shutter Hinges and Fasteners on many historical homes and buildings. One complete set will accommodate one set of shutters on one window. Your set will come in a manufacturer sealed package. I have removed one set to photograph. To be used in the applications when enough wood trim is exposed within the window opening to mount the shutters. One side of the hinge is mortised into the edge of the shutter and the other into the window casement. Designed so the shutters cannot be lifted by the wind. These are made of raw cast iron and will need to be painted black to keep them from rusting. i am not an expert on these pc's.i picked them up at a local(NH) farm house estate sale. Knowing they had age to them, and intriqued by the forged look! upon gathering info. I have discovered they were shutter dog/hinges. amongst other interesting. Related do dads, from same lot. they measure appox 3 1/2" long. i used the quarter to show help gauge sizes of the various pcs. the camera panned the same'lot' in the same place.i did not move any pcs for the multiple close ups. they seem strong(altho i did not try to hammer them into anything! and not delicate or brittle. plz view photos. I recently acquired these at an estate sale and they were bought attached to a display board. I hit the pieces with a dry scrub brush and easily knocked most of the surface rust off.
