These are spring-loaded.Decorative cast iron hinges,marked with a patent date of Sept 11.1883(8?A lot of detail in the casting,obscurred by the paint,but the paint will come off easily with a good soaking and a wire brush.The spring loaded mechanism allows for the door to be automatically shut and will also hold the door open at 180 degrees. Antique 1800's Victorian Screen Door Spring Hardware by Sargent & Co 1894
Up for auction are the original 1800's springs from the exterior screen doors from a Victorian home. There are two Eastlake small springs that would go at the top and bottom of the door and a center spring for the middle. Lastly there is an extension spring that mounts to the door and the inner door frame that stretched when you open the door. This may be the hardware from a double set of doors or possibly the main door and a side door. The finish is black enamel and looks original. The small springs are 4" tall x 2 3/4" The middle spring is 9 1/2" tall. The strethc spring is 12" long. This is great original 1800's nice quality door hardware. I have a lot of old patterned ornate door hardware for your consideration. Rarer hard to find iron design knobs utilize a flat drive rod as opposed to the standard square drive. It is hard to tell if the patterns match due to the amount of old residue. Paint and finish on the hinges. Hinges seem to work although there is quite a bit of wear to the hinge pin catch and subsequently there is a little play before engagement. Some might be able to spot weld a point to fill catch wear. Might work as is depending on your application although one could cut and drill out the existing ball pin and replace it if they wanted. These are in as found condition so, could use a good cleaning before display or reuse. Nice pair of unusual early iron knobs for any ones collection as well. A single spring loaded screen door hinge made of cast iron. The hinge is apr. 3 1/8 inches wide and apr. 4 inches to the end of the hinge ball tips. The hinge does have a good spring return. The part was given a basic cleaning on a wire wheel to look for any damage. None was found. The pictures should show the rest. Plenty of lighting was used to show as much detail as possible.
