Not sure if it was intentionally made ... morethat way or if this is from age and use. Either way. It's stated and photographed for your consideration. That being said there are a few measurements to consider. At the shortest diameter distance the bowl measures 10 1/4" in diameter. At the longest diameter distance the bowl measures 11" in diameter. Again. This is from being slightly out of round. The bowl has some heavy scratching from use. Mostly located at the center interior. You can see this in the photos. I know that some people like to sand these out and return them to their original smooth surface. That's being left up to the winning bidder to determine and address. Some rough edges around the diameter of the lip. The bottom and exterior is very clean with almost no scratching. Please note that the bowl has a silky feel to it from being seasoned and treated with food grade oil. The spoon or paddle measures 9 1/4" in length X 5" wide at the widest point. It too has wear and scratching from use with some minor surface splitting near the end. Nothing that goes through though. Overall a great candidate for restoration or to leave it as is to add to your primitive home decor. Should you have any questions or concerns. I can't identify the wood but it appears to be from a burl of some sort-very wavy grain like a tiger maple I tracked down some info on Munising( label brands and this appears to be the third version. From the 1930s. Munising Wood Products existed from 1911 to 1955 and began branding their products in the 20s. It has a 2.5" TIGHT crack running diagonally off the edge, stable, you cannot see light through it when held up to view, meaning no open separation. This is an age crack. Tiny 1/2" fissure crack on opposite rim, almost insignificant to reenactor use, just want to mention all accuracies. The bowl shows well, is useable, clean, no odors, my home is smoke free, and high bidder acknowledge and accepts the status report and does not argue after arrival, they failed to notice the small crack. Vintage MUNISING Lot of 2 Small Primitive Wood OVAL Salad or Fruit Bowls
What a fabulous find! These are two small. Fabulous slightly oval shapedm thick wooden salad or fruit bowls turned from a solid piece of wood with rounded edges from Munising, Michigan. I haven't found anything like them(oval, small, rounded edges) on Ebay or elsewhere! My mother bought these many years ago with the intent to paint them, but never did. She was an amazing tole painter) They are in superb condition except for stains that would come from normal usage. See photos for details. The factory sadly burned in 1955, so these are older than that. Size is 6.5 inches at its widest diameter. Height about 1.5 inches- thickness about 3/8 inch. Wow. VERY EARLY 1920s-1930s MUNISING WOODEN BOWL EARLIEST BLOCK LETTERING DATES THIS PIECE OF HISTORY TO THE 1920'S WHEN MUNISING FIRST STARTED MARKING THEIR WORK BOWL IS RIMMED AND APPROX. 11 1/2" X 10 1/2" out of round) AND 3"DEEP THIS IS A BEAUTIFUL BOWL WITH GREAT PATINA ~ MADE IN MUNISING MICHIGAN Now for what some may consider flaws.I consider these'flaws' to be the piece's story& history) 1) There is a hairline crack on one side of the bowl but it is stable at this point- SEE PICTURES 2) There are three burn marks on the sides of bowl where it probably got too close to the stove pipe while the dough was rising.who knows?it could be! This is a wonderful antique primitive Munising wooden dough/ salad/ fruit bowl. It was hand turned on a lathe and crafted from birds eye burled maple wood. It is slightly out of round measuring about 10" x 9 1/4" x on one side 1 7/8" high and on the other going up to 2 1/4" high. It is in very good vintage condition with a nice patina. On the bottom there three black scorch marks where it looks like someone might have set it down on a hot burner. It is not deep and the signed name on the bottom- Munising- is still clearly visible. Munising Woodenware was in business from 1911 to 1955. So this bowl is at LEAST 57 years old. I took photos with the flash both on and off, to give a better idea as to hues/ color. It shows many of having been well-loved and purposeful for many years. But has no cracks or chips. It’s sturdy and intact. I believe this bowl dates to the 1930's or 1940's. It appears to be a very solid hardwood. Perhaps maple. The bowl measures 11-1/8" across one way and 10-9/16" across the other way. It is just under 3" in height. It weighs just under 1-1/2 pounds. This wonderful old bowl is in good shape without any splits or cracks. This is a lot of 3 vintage wooden bowls. These look like Munising to me but none of them are marked. They are all maple and ovoid in shape. Primitive condition. Two with hand painted fruits, and one with just remnants of painting. These are all large bowls, the one with no paint left is a large 13½ x 12½ and is 5" tall with round ball feet. This listing is for three(3) Vintage. Munising Wood Dough or Salad Bowls, including one large serving bowl and two smaller bowls. The bottom of the large bowl signed Munising. The bowls are slightly oblong. They have a medium brown maple finish. The serving bowl measures 11 1/2"by 11" and 3" high- The two smaller bowls measure 7" by 6 1/2" and 1 3/8" high. With some slight variation in measurement between the two. Combined the set weighs 2 lbs 1.5 oz. All three bowls have a fantastic even finish. There are some light marks from use and storage. But none that are notable without close inspection. One of the two small bowls has a small factory split in the wood, as seen in the photos. Set of Antique Primitive Munising Marquette Wood Nesting Dough Bowls
This is a lot of four beautiful antique primitive wood dough bowls. The four bowls in the lot are graduated in size. And thus nest within each other. These bowls were not manufactured as a set. Each bowl is slightly oblong or oval shape. The largest measures 15 in by 14.5 in, and is unmarked. The second largest measures 13.5 in by 12.5 in and is marked Munising on the bottom. The third largest measures 11.25 in by 10.25 in and is marked Marquette on the bottom. The smallest measures 9 in by 8.25 in and is unmarked. The Munising Mill, in Munising, Michigan operated from 1911 to 1955. I believe from the markings that the bowl is from the factory's earlier days of production. The Marquette Mill, also in Munising, Michigan operated around the same time. Again, the markings on the bowl indicate that it was produced during earlier production. ... moreThe bowls are unfinished machine lathed hardwood. I believe they are made of maple. They are in great condition for their age, however the second largest bowl does have three splits along its edge, while the smallest bowl has a nearly undetectable split in its center. All imperfections are noted in the photographs. These bowls are a must have for any primitives collector, and with the proper TLC and a little mineral oil, would be a beautiful addition to any collection. Enjoy!

Antique Primitive Munising 13 1/2" Wood Dough Bowl Tiny Exterior Crack
Lovely early primitive hand made Munising wood dough bowl. Out of round. Which was the traditional way they were made. Measurements: 13 1/2" x 12 3/4" x 4" deep. There's a very small crack on the exterior at the top(see pic) appx. 1" long& a tiny chip on the top rim. It sits flat, no tipping. I believe this is maple, the grain is beautiful! The finish is natural, I just rubbed on a small amount of food grade mineral oil after it was washed. It could probably use another application of mineral oil if you were going to use it for mixing. I've had it for years, displayed& used as a fruit bowl.
