This is a great old bowl made from the actual trunk of a Pennsylvania tree! Sold originally by the ELLENVILLE NOVELTY CO. The line is called RUSTICWARE. Likely made in the 1950's. This bowl is unusual because it sits on 3 ball feet and has a silver tone metal cap on the center shaft of the bowl(most of what I've seen sit flat with no feet) It measures 9 3/4" across and 8 3/4" wide by 4" high. Wow. Let me tell you what a find this is! This is a vintage rustic nut bowl made from a slice of log. Retaining it's original tree bark. It measures 7 1/4" in diameter and 2 1/4" deep and has felt on the bottom to protect your furniture. Included are a vintage HMQ nutcracker and 4 nut picks. The sticker on this one. Made by Ellwood Rusticware in the 1950s and 1960s. It is in vintage condition- the bottom is somewhat worn but looks like that is from storage. Nut cracker and picks look good with no rust, but have some dirt and dust in crevices.The wood is a"knotty" wood and the darker region near bottom is a knot, not a stain. There is a slight crack between 2 pick holes. It's a great looking piece and I really like the way you can see the tree rings on the bottom and inside the bowl. Not only is this an useful item. Ellwood Rusticware Nut Bowl with RARE Nutcracker& 6 Picks 8" diameter x 3 ¼" high Original Ellwood Sticker& J.C. Penney Co. Price Tag Great Gift! I am selling an Ellwood Rusticware Nut Bowl with RARE Nutcracker& 6 Picks. The bowl measures approximately 8” in diameter by 3 ¼” in height and comes with a nutcracker& 6 picks. The nutcracker is especially rare. The nutcracker has a spring-loaded spliter. Which turns when pushed and turned. 5 picks are approximately 4 ½” long and match each other. And 1 pick is approximately 4 ¾” long and matches the nutcracker. The bowl has felt along with an Ellwood RUSTICWARE paper sticker& J.C. Penney Co. price tag on the bottom. The felt is slightly worn thin in spots and the price tag is faded. So I cannot make out the price. The bowl. Nutcracker& picks ... moreare in good vintage condition, although all show wear from normal use& age. The bark on the bowl is scuffed in places. But, since the bowl is made to look rustic, it may have been made that way. The nutcracker has a little surface rust where the nut is cracked. I did not try to remove it. But it can probably be buffed out. My husband& I received the nut bowl. Nutcracker& picks in a box of treasures from his mother. She was an antiques dealer who favored very fancy items. Like sterling silver, fine china& crystal, so I was surprised to find this Rusticware piece. His father had a crop of pecan trees so it may have been one of his personal items. I do not know anymore about the bowl or its origin than that. But I am happy to answer any questions about its condition. I am selling the bowl. Nutcracker& picks as a set and"as is.
