VERY EARLY 1920s-1930s MUNISING WOODEN BOWL EARLIEST BLOCK LETTERING DATES THIS PIECE OF HISTORY TO THE 1920'S WHEN MUNISING FIRST STARTED MARKING THEIR WORK BOWL IS RIMMED AND APPROX. 11 1/2" X 10 1/2" out of round) AND 3"DEEP THIS IS A BEAUTIFUL BOWL WITH GREAT PATINA ~ MADE IN MUNISING MICHIGAN Now for what some may consider flaws.I consider these'flaws' to be the piece's story& history) 1) There is a hairline crack on one side of the bowl but it is stable at this point- SEE PICTURES 2) There are three burn marks on the sides of bowl where it probably got too close to the stove pipe while the dough was rising.who knows?it could be! I believe this bowl dates to the 1930's or 1940's. It appears to be a very solid hardwood. Perhaps maple. The bowl measures 11-1/8" across one way and 10-9/16" across the other way. It is just under 3" in height. It weighs just under 1-1/2 pounds. This wonderful old bowl is in good shape without any splits or cracks. It does have stains/dark discolorations and chopping marks from use. I'm not sure if the wood was stained or the natural color. This large Munising bowl is off-round. 15-1/4" x 14-1/2" it is 5" high and 1/2" thick. Munising bowls were made in the Upper Peninsula of Michigan, usually from maple trees growing in local forests. This bowl has been in my family since the 1940s or 50s. The bowl was always used for either chopping or rising bread dough. The wood grain is visible inside and outside, and turning marks can also be seen. The bowl is signed on the bottom. Antique Primitive Munising Wood Dough Bowl Off Round Hand Hewn 11" Sugar Maple
Here we have a hand hewn wooden bowl by Munising Wood products of Munising. Michigan. They operated between 1911 and 1955. There catalog lists there bowls as being created out of the best Michigan sugar maples. This bowl is in good condition for it's age. There are some scratches and stains from use. It is out-of-round measuring 11 1/4 inches from end to end and 10 1/2 inches wide and is approximately 3 inches deep. You are bidding on a primitive vintage Munising wooden bowl. It is marked with maker on bottom. Hardwood. Probably maple. Out of round, which indicates its age. Bowls were produced through 1955. Wood contrasts differently based on grain of the wood. Measures roughly 11" across and 3" deep. An awesome bowl to be used for serving, cooking or to sit as a centerpiece.

For sale is this classic Munising wooden dough bowl. Measures 11 1/2 inches long by 10 1/2 inches wide by 3 inches deep. I'm not sure what wood this is but I've seen a lot of similar bowls as this one listed as maple? That is a guess. I am not an expert. This is a hand turned bowl and is not perfect in it's shape which is what makes this bowl so interesting. There are scratches and marks from use. Munising is burnt(I believe) into the bottom in a nice slant cursive. See pictures as they are part of the description. OFFERING FOR BID- Welcome to my sale today I'm offering this old primitive and aged hand turned wooden bow. Made in the fashion of the munising dough or chop bowl. Great looking bowl with lots farm style charm, very usable good working bowl, a well loved look. This bowl has significant evidence of hand work. Normal as most hand turned bowls go. Showing slightly oval from 12" across to 13" length. There is noticeable tilt or canted even with the bottom having a round flat area of 3" There is differences in height that varies from 3-1/4 up to 4" depending on where measurements are taken. Edge thickness is uniform and there is sanding or lathe marking that are more evident on the back side. There is areas of darker/light coloring with dry patina. Few spotted stain areas created from the specie of wood, graining, age and ... morepreown use as a working bowl. There are no maker's marks and unknown age, and unknown wood specie- made of 1 single piece of wood- believe to be maple. CONDITION; hairline at bottom center. Not s ep a rat ed.
