FEATURES: This particular bowl(on the inside) is hand carved out of hard wood and the outside was(i think) lathe cut and has oval divits or notches carved out that surround the entire bowl around the outside rim. On the bottom. There are three angled 7/8" legs. ADD. INFO: After doing some research on the web. I found the following information to be very interesting, and thought I would share it with you: Munising bowls were named after their namesake town on the South Bay of Michigan's Upper Peninsula. Workers at the Munising Company machine lathed each bowl out of ... morehardwood which was usually maple that was found in forests that were nearby. In the 1940's, the factory started to paint their bowls usually with flowers or fruit. The company was in operation from 1911 until 1955. VTG.MUNISING Salad Bowls (5) Folk Art Carved Round Wooden Primitive Signed
Set of FIVE Vintage MUNISING*FOLK ART* 6-1/2" Out of Round SALAD BOWLS These bowls are Lovely. They are handmade. Hand carved, and hand finished. They have a Folk Art Carved edge around. There is a deep diamond cut. Which is stained in the bowl color, and in between those there is an oblong carving in a dark wood stain, that is not cut quite as deep. The bowls are all signed on the bottom in a dark stain. They also have an engraved signature on the sides of the bowls in the same color as the bowls. They are all smooth. And free of cracks, chips, and nicks. Most of the finish is still mainly complete. I have not washed these. So I am sure they need a good cleaning. Please see all pictures for the details. Beautiful hand made primitive bowl from MUNISING. Made of maple in the town of Munising in the Upper Peninsula of Michigan. Bowls were created there between 1911 and 1955. This one is about 9" in diameter and is about 2 inches deep. It has three red painted round feet. Has various scrapes and marks commensurate with age. No cracks. Vintage Munising Wooden Dough Bowl Exterior rim dimensions are 12.5" x just a hair over 13.5" Bowl appears to have seen very little use or abuse. Very nice finish with great wood grain whirling both inside& out. Small spot of finish loss to edge of rim on one side looks far more harsh under"photo flash" than in person. A few light scratches. Dark spot to bottom. Munising" logo very strong with slight loss to 2nd"N" Family estate item. Age unknown but condition would indicate post WW2. Up for sale is an authentic Munising Dough Bowl Out of Round(Roughly 11" x 10" With a"2nd" engraved on the back next to"Munising. I am not well versed in these bowls. So all I can do is show you photos and point out a few things that I think are worth pointing out. There is, from what I am seeing, only minor crack or two on the rim, but nothing big- they are extremely minor. There are dark spots, which you can see photographed. The color of the bowl is hard to say. But it isn't dark, but not entirely light. It actually seems to have kind of streaks going throughout that are darker than the overall color. I apologize for that almost non-helpful description, but it is the best I've got. Overall. Though, I think the bowl is great. The height of it varies, from 4-7/8" to 4-1/16" This is a Munising bowl- marked on the bottom. Has 3 feet. I think it's maple- birdseye maple? Lovely- absolutely wonderful. Rich color/patina! I believe this bowl dates to the 1930's or 1940's. It appears to be a very solid hardwood. Perhaps maple. The bowl measures 11-1/8" across one way and 10-9/16" across the other way. It is just under 3" in height. It weighs just under 1-1/2 pounds. This wonderful old bowl is in good shape without any splits or cracks. It does have stains/dark discolorations and chopping marks from use. I'm not sure if the wood was stained or the natural color. This large Munising bowl is off-round. 15-1/4" x 14-1/2" it is 5" high and 1/2" thick. Munising bowls were made in the Upper Peninsula of Michigan, usually from maple trees growing in local forests. This bowl has been in my family since the 1940s or 50s. The bowl was always used for either chopping or rising bread dough. The wood grain is visible inside and outside, and turning marks can also be seen. The bowl is signed on the bottom. Antique Munising Wood Wooden Pedestal Bowl. Orig Oiled, Out of Round Large 13-1/8" x 13-7/8" MADE IN USA This is a beautiful example of a quality Munising turned bowl. Not as common is the attached turned pedestal. The factory operated in Munising. Michigan from 1911 to 1955. Large. Measures 13-1/8" x 13-7/8" x little over 4-3/4" high. No cracks or gouges. Outer surface has scuffs and some roughness where the oiled finish has been scuffed off. I have not attempted any cleaning or re-oiling of this bowl. Inside of bowl shows very little sign of usage- no stains. Light marring. Needs some oil and some love. Pedestal measures 6-1/2" diameter. Vintage MUNISING light wood bowl 3 red ball feet out-of-round 13"-12" x 5"
This is a burned stamp MUNISING wooden bowl. Most likely from 1940's through 1950's. The bowl does have three round ball feet painted red. The bowl itself is about 13" 12" out of round. 5" from tabletop to top rim of bowl and about 3 1/2 inch depth of bowl. There is some nicks and wear as well as a small crack.

Here is a little information on the company that made the bowl: Munising bowls hail from their namesake town. Nestled on the South Bay of Michigan's Upper Peninsula. Workers at Munising Woodenware Company, in business from 1911 to 1955, machine-lathed each vessel out of hardwood, usually maple, from the forests nearby. The factory produced other household items, such as butter molds, spoons and breadboards. The goods were sold at department stores, where many found their way onto wedding registries. During World War II, the factory fashioned 50 million tent stakes for the Army and the Marines. For sale is this classic Munising wooden dough bowl. Measures 11 1/2 inches long by 10 1/2 inches wide by 3 inches deep. I'm not sure what wood this is but I've seen a lot of similar bowls as this one listed as maple? That is a guess. I am not an expert. This is a hand turned bowl and is not perfect in it's shape which is what makes this bowl so interesting. There are scratches and marks from use. Munising is burnt(I believe) into the bottom in a nice slant cursive. See pictures as they are part of the description. This set of Beautiful Vintage Munising out of Round bowls set is from the town of Munising in Upper Michigan. They are a salad bowl set. large serving bowl) with 3 small salad bowls made of hard Maple. The largest bowl measures approximately 11 inches wide and 3.25 inches tall. It has the iconic burned in Munising name on the bottom underside. The 3 small salad bowls measure approximately 6.25 inches wide and 1.5 inches tall. They also have the iconic burned in Munising name on the bottom underside. The large bowl has minimal utensil wear and the wood and lustre finish are warm rich. The 3 matching salad bowls are the same color and have moderate utensil wear. One of the three bowls is worn with uneven finish as seen in final picture.
