Absolutely beautiful oval dough bowl has wonderful(what looks to be) hand carved designs around the edge and interior of bowl! The bowl appears to be made of one piece of wood and hand carved(the back side is not perfectly flat. But slightly uneven) The finish is very nice and smooth showing a bit of age and wear. The carved surface shows dirt, a little nicking and wear but I love it. This will get more beautiful with each year that goes by! I have had it on my wall for a long time, but I am clearing some things out and am ready to part with it. The oval shaped bowl measures a generous 16" L x 8 1/2" W x approx 2 3/4" H. For auction is a set of 3 antique nesting wooden bowls. Due to the manner in which wood ages. The bowls are oval in shape and the sides may be of slightly difference heights on the same bowl. The largest bowl measures approximately 13 3/4 inches long, 12 1/2 inches wide and 3 3/4 inches high. It is in excellent condition with a some darker areas inside and on the very bottom from oils used in food preparation. The second bowl measures approximately 11 1/2 inches long, 10 7/8 inches wide and 3 inches high. The inside of the bowl has an area in the middle which is"seasoned" from usage and the upper sides are drier in appearance. The smallest bowl measures approximately 9 inches long, 8 3/8 inches wide, 2 inches high on two ends and 1 3/4 inches high on the other two ends. Nice overall patina with a small darker area on one side of ... morethe interior. All three bowls are in excellent condition with no chips, cracks or repairs. Vintage Munising Dough Bowl, Oval 11.75" Primitive yet Elegant, Signed
For auction is a very handsome example of a Munising dough bowl. Based on the mark on the bottom(straight script with rounded top M) this bowl would have been made anywhere from the late 1930's to mid 1950's. My guess. Based on other Munising bowls I've seen, would be early to mid 1940's. This bowl is especially nice because not only is it oval, but it's also slightly lower on one side, which gives it an elegant"swirl" effect. SIZE: It is 11.75" long and 10-3/8" wide. The height at each long end is approx. 2-5/8 inches; but the height on the sides is approx. 2.5" and 2-3/8" respectively. CONDITION: This bowl has been used! The result is a rich patina with color variations throughout. The photographs make it appear brighter than it is. The second photograph is the most representative. And of ... morecourse there are quite a few scratches and worn spots from years of chopping dough. To the touch, the wood has a cool damp feel, which suggests to me that it may have been submerged in water. These bowls should be cleaned with a soft, damp cloth or sponge and treated periodically with a food grade mineral oil. My advice for this beauty would be to give it a rest for several months and use it to sore hard fruits such as apples, pears, oranges, etc. It will look stunning on a kitchen counter, sideboard, or even as a centerpiece on a dining table. Feast your eyes on this! My mother classifies this as being"from the farm. That means it belonged to my Great-Grandparents. Who were married around 1915. This bowl belonged to them. And we're not sure where it came from exactly. Is it a dough bowl? I don't know. It could have been used for any number of things. What I do know is that it has a lovely patina. And the turn marks are visible. The best part. Though, is the shape. It is not a circle.more of an oval. I didn't attempt to clean/oil it. Because I don't know how and don't want to risk ruining it. Biscuits or pastries. Most of these old wooden bowls were made out of hardwoods such as maple or oak. This is a wonderful antique dough bread bowl from the early 1900's. Or possibly a bit earlier, and this trencher has been made in a lovely and graceful oval shape. The wood itself is a rich medium dark brown with an overall casting of slight auburn, showing a wonderful patina with signs of good honest usage from chopping herbs. The size of this oval bowl would be considered large and measures generously at 19 inches from end to end, 11 inches from front to back and sits steady at a height of approx. 4 inches. I love the shape of these antique oval bowls and the ovals seem to be the hardest types of dough bowls to find without damages. This bowl has a lot of primitive personality. In other words, it has a fabulous old patina. This bowl is in it's natural state and has not been finished with any varnish or other substances. Hand crafted signed large oval wooden dough bowl
Here we have a pre-owned hand crafted wooden oval bowl. Signed R. Howard E-172 for your consideration. The signature is carved into the underside of the bowl. I do not believe this is an antique but made in the likeness of a"dough" bowl. It is hand made and it has the charm of a lovingly crafted piece of art. The bowl is 27 1/2" long and 15 3/8" wide and sits about 3" high. The bowl is made out of some kind of burled wood and has gorgeous grain as the main attraction and the occasional crack and burled area to add interest and beauty. This would make a fabulous center piece for your dining room table or entry way display. Really handsome! There is one small chip(1/4" by 1/4" on the underside of one corner(see the un-stained chip in the photos) There are some cracks as wooden pieces like this are know to ... morehave and there are signs of the bowl's handmade quality in the form of a few knicks that have been stained so we know they were there when the artist made the piece. For sale is this classic Munising wooden dough bowl. Measures 11 1/2 inches long by 10 1/2 inches wide by 3 inches deep. I'm not sure what wood this is but I've seen a lot of similar bowls as this one listed as maple? That is a guess. I am not an expert. This is a hand turned bowl and is not perfect in it's shape which is what makes this bowl so interesting. There are scratches and marks from use. Munising is burnt(I believe) into the bottom in a nice slant cursive. See pictures as they are part of the description.
