BOWL HAND CARVED Burl Wood 11" long medium dark wood age unknown
I don't know anything about this great wood bowl. But I thought it was nice to list for a collector who might be able to identify it! It looks to be carved from a single piece of wood. It is rounded. But slightly oval sides. 11" wide. Slopped to about 2" deep The outside bottom is flat and rough to the touch The wood shines as if a slight type of shellac may have been applied Lightweight. Medium to dark colored wood, no odors. I think it's called burl wood.

THIS EARLY BURL BOWL LOOKS TO BE HAND TURNED AND CARVED OUT OF A SINGLE BLOCK OF WOOD. DEEP RICH PATINA AND THE BURL HAS A VERY DEEP RICH COLOR THAT VARIES FROM LIGHT TO DARK. Antique Burl Bowl 1800s Pioneer Rustic Attic Finish Vintage Carved Wood Treen NR
Rustic Burl Bowl This burl bowl is an idiosyncratic example of early pioneer woodworking. It is crudely carved and has burn marks on the bottom where it was placed too close to a hearth fire. The most intriguing feature of the bowl is an old corn cob stopping a knot hole in the bottom. This is an original make-do repair. The bowl is thick and heavy. It measures 13 inches across and 6 six inches deep. It came from an old time mid-Missouri antique dealer who purchased it locally. I believe this piece certainly dates to the nineteenth century. Possibly to the period of the first settlers in the early 1800s. I will ship this item to any location in the United States by US Mail. Payment is simplest and fastest by Paypal. Vintage Burl Wood Bowl Primitive Americana 12" carved wear early? Maine found
A true primitive! This delightful 12 1/4 inch diameter by 4 1/2 inch tall burl wood bowl certainly shows lots of usage wear! The bowl has a hole crudely drilled in the side for hangings. Thousands of knife marks to the interior, and lots of use wear to the base. Unfortunately, it is extremely dry and has a crack along a natural fault line to the base. With a little oil and some wax, the bowl would certainly shine! However, I am leaving it as found, because even dried out, it is hard to tell its true age and cleaning it up would only make that harder. The shaped rim is clearly uneven with worn knicks. Base displays honest wear, but whether that is an honest 50 years, or an honest 200, I really can't say. Interior could use a cleaning. The sides still show some glossiness. Acquired from a Southern Maine estate, the bowl could be 1720 or ... moreit could be 1960; it has enough wear and usage marks to be at least 50 years old. The base crack would probably tighten up with some oil. A very nice vintage and possibly early burl wood bowl. Weighs 26 ounces. Huge Well Carved Attractive Mid Century Modern Burl Walnut Basket or Bowl This one is wonderful. Unique and a must have item. I have a well carved natural Burl Walnut bowl or basket that is huge. To the top of the handle it stands 14.5 inches and is 15 inches in diameter. The artist carved this basket well looking at the natural makeup of the burl. This would make a great fresh fruit basket or one for dried flowers. As you can see it has a natural hole in the bottom. This one has so much more character that others you may see on ebay. Stamped on the bottom is I think CON2. This one looks to be of more recent origin. Only the slightest bit of wear to the bottom. A natural crack has formed on the rim above one of the knots. This listing is for a beautiful hand carved burl Root Cypress solid wood Large Basket Bowl w/ Handle. The impressive shape of the basket follows the natural shape of the tree. So it is not perfectly round. This unique decorative piece was carved from the trunk of a cypress tree~~you can even see the age rings in the interior of the basket! The handle is completely attached and carved out of the hollowed wood, it is not nailed or glued or fixed on in any way!
