One side has narrow vertical ridges which make this tool more versatile in the kitchen. The reference book I use states that the fine grooves(in this one) is better than the coarse. They make nice grooved"balls" of butter. The opposite side is smooth and has a nice feel to the wood. Due to use. It has some tiny chips and scrapes of the edges of the wood. There is one small wear spot on the inside bottom that is about 3/4 inch wide. No real damage, just a little spot where there is some wear to the surface. The bowl is in excellent condition and has no chips, cracks, stains or repairs. It is 3 5/8 inches tall, 11 inches wide on top and 4 1/2 wide on the bottom. A beautiful bowl for lots of uses. It measures 22 1/2" by 14 inches/ it a very neat item in the bottom of the bowl it sort of a rough design from the way it was carved out, on th end of it it still has what sort of looks like some barkk on it, the back of the bowl is smooth, does have about a six inch crack in the wood but does not go through all the way, this is one nice piece of americian history from years past, would be a great addition to any collection

Antique Turned Wooden Wood Bowl Brass Rim 14” Beautiful For sale is a beautiful antique turned wood wooden bowl. I do not know the type of wood. It measures about 14 inches in diameter and about 4 inches deep. It appears to have been originally painted dark green. There are some signs of paint at the center of the top of the bowl and the center of the bottom. I am not sure about the history of the brass rim. It was suggested that the owner loved the bowl so much that they put the brass rim on to cover the area of the bowl that was possibly damaged or low. As you can see from the photos. There is an area of the wooden rim that has been filled out repaired a very very long time ago. There is a small hole that is at the outside groove and goes through the bowl.
