This is one of the most unusual and attractive antique steamer trunks I have found. Unusual design reinforced with multiple wood slats and copper detailing throughout. I acquired this particular trunk about 15 years ago and used it for awhile as an accent table with a glass top in my design studio. Although I am on the constant hunt for vintage trunks, this is one of the most unusual I have ever found and have held on to it for years awaiting another purpose. All wood construction with a multitude of wood slat reinforcements and copper straping with riveted joints throughout. Much of the original hardware. Including hinges, is intact but the front lock/latch ... moreand one side handle is missing. The interior is clean with remanants of an old paper lining that has been pealed away to reveal that the wood used in the making of the trunk was most likely recycled from antique wood crating. With one area showing an original stamp for the"American rubber company" I was surprised to see this and since this trunk is at least 100 years old, I think it is such an unusual and charming detail The trunk has probably had a coat of protective finish added to the exterior at some point and the wood has developed an aged and rich patina. There is a burn mark(see photo) on the left side. Indicating at some point in its history this trunk even endured some sort of fire, but is clean and undamaged otherwise. This trunk looks fantastic as is- I used it with a custom cut(very inexpensive) glass top for use as a coffee table. Either way. An absolutely stunning and historical addition to your design scheme! Here we a Victorian Era children's travel wood trunk with tin overlay. It is in unrestored original condition. Eagle Lock Company U.S.A It is a great looking vintage trunk. Well loved and traveled. The handles are long gone. The right latch does not line up. The bottom has a couple of cracks. This trunk measures 18-1/8" in length. 10-1/2" wide and 10-1/2" tall. This trunk has great character including at least three very old paper lading tags one from Charlevoix Michigan by American railway express. This trunk was well traveled in it's day. When we were inspecting the trunk we noticed what looked like an old stamp stuck to the bottom under a flap of the interior covering. This"stamp" turned out to be a very small picture. Taken obviously in the victorian era, of two adorable children. There is a name or some ... moreword written on the back in pencil so badly faded we are unable to read it. This is an outstanding antique from 1835- dated newspaper as lining. This leather covered wood trunk or chest measures 25" by 12" by 10" high. As mentioned it is lined in very old newspaper- all dated around 1835. The overall condition is good for its age: the two iron handles are still in tact. Most of the brass studs are present, the front latch is non functional, the hinges with square nails are fine. It is a very special piece of 19th century history. Called a wall trunk because it opens straight up- you don't have to move it away from a wall to open it up. Dated 1891 on some of the hardware. Measures 24" tall; 36" long and 20 1/2" front to back. Wood and metal totally refinished and coated with poly for easy cleaning. Has new wallpaper interior; tray was stripped of paper and left bare. This is a stunningly rare antique authentic handmade salesman sample miniature travel domed top trunk. It is a very small model made by hand to be able to easily transport from potential client to client for sales rather than carrying a heavy. Large, original sized trunk. It is beautifully made with an abundance of nice detailing and many different materials. it is made from wood. Iron, leather, canvas, and linen. it has lonely metal decorative dogs on the front done in high relief and have dangling rings from their mouthes. there is a nice handmade locking mechanism on the front but does not have a key. the inside is nicely lined but would have had a couple more pieces and more of the purple lining. it also has a linen piece on the side to hold the box opened. it is missing the handle part on the sides but still has the mounts so can easily ... morebe replaced. it measures 12 inches long by 9 inches tall by 7 3/4 inches wide. it is in nice antique condition and has normal ware from age. refer to all photos. Inside has the tray with checkered paper lining it and the trunk. The inside looks to be the original label reading.A Mala Forte. Roda da Silva Ferreicta. Measurements: 35 1/2" long x 18 1/2" wide x 17 1/2" tall. This is good shape for its' age. And bottom is solid also no rot, etc.Some tears to paper lining, and outside bottom. Flat top trunk measures 38" side to side; 20" front to back; has 2" wheels on bottom and is 14 3/4" tall with the wheels included. Rollers not original but give it the extra height it needs for a perfect coffee table; wood slats on top wide enough to place coffee cup in between. Been totally re-done- has double coat of stain with poly finish for easy soap and water clean up. Metal hardware has brassy look to it and all original.
