THANK YOU. Here is a stunning and very desirable approximately 150 year old antique Japanese small Choba tansu. Or merchant's chest, dating from the Meiji Era around the mid to late 1800's, featuring a lock bar in the center and classical safe compartment at the bottom right. It boasts a natural light colour with a rich honey patina, beautifully shaped hand forged iron hardware, wood peg construction and 8 drawers of various sizes that provide versatile storage options including a full width drawer at the top. It is in excellent overall condition for it's age. But has a little lock issue: as there is no key and the top drawer lock is in the closed position with the drawer open it will not shut all the way. The safe compartment has a tendency to swing open by itself since there is no key to lock it. The lock issue does NOT affect the lock bar which slides in and out of place properly. Please read the description and examine the photos for more details on the condition. Locksmiths and larger antique dealers will own sets of multiple keys to fit a broad range of locks so you should be able to get the drawer unlocked easily enough so it slides into place. With a little patience you could also find an antique key that fits right here on ebay(I can recommend a seller who regularly stocks this type of item) Other small issues worth noting are a small repair in the bottom corner of the smallest drawer just above the safe compartment. The larger top drawer is stiff to open and close due to age and needs a tweak, and one corner plate in the back is bent out of shape. Given it's age there is some wearing off of the blackening of a few small spots of the iron, and a couple of small nails are missing. There is a thin fissure on the top, and one wider one on the back as is common with wood this age, but the tansu is good and strong. There ar

Here's what I stated about it s condition: Metal overlay surfaces have been repainted and restored. Some scratches and scuffs marks on beautifully grained wood slats. We are pleased to offer this very nice. BEAUTIFUL antique VICTORIAN steamer trunk. The chest has a domed top and is wood and metal construction. It features ornate iron hardware and trim and leather side handles. This wonderful trunk has an UNTOUCHED, ORIGINAL INTERIOR. The interior is lined in decoupage fashion. It has 4 compartments that are each defined with a different decoupaged portrait. They lift up(the top compartment lid lowers) for storage but they are not the"lift out" removable type of replacement trays. They are constructed of a heavy cardboard type material and have hooked closing mechanisms. The largest compartment is the lower compartment. It is accessible by lifting the sides of the center compartment. The trunk is very nice and is very much in original condition with very little restoration. The leather handles ... moremay have been replaced at some point as they have an aged patina but are in excellent condition. The trunk has the original locks but has no key. There are two clasp closures with locks on the front with a large center lock. There are 4 small wheels on the bottom of the trunk for easy transport. They are in good working condition. The trunk has no major dents or damage. There are a few minor dings but they are not very noticeable and they do not distract from the beauty of this chest. The interior is aged and is in untouched and unrestored condition. It is quite lovely with no major rips or tears to the decorative paper lining. The trunk measures 30" wide. Measures approx 22.5" x 14" x 4.25" high plus a little more for the feet. I'm guessing this piece would have held sterling silver flatware. I think that it is a flatware chest. Though it has been gutted. You could reline this if you wish. Evidence of some moisture damage on the bottom with warp and stains on the wood panels. The outside lid has a black silhouette of dancers. The wood is a walnut? dark stain. Not sure what is the wood. The thickness of the wood around the edges is about 5/8" The bottom panels are thin. Up for auction is a Wood and metal humpback chest. The chest is original there has been no restoration done to it. The chest measures 26" long 17" tall 15" wide the paper on the inside of the chest is original there is a broken handle and some hardware issues that come with age. The inside tray is long gone. This chest has been kept inside a apartment for most of its life. It was not used for storage but as a showpiece so it has been kept very clean. Please scan below description to read shipping costs/details ~ thanks Fabulous antique cabinet maker's tool chest measuring 27"wide x 16-1/4" x 14-1/4" high. Hard wood probably oak? You won't find any veneer here this beauty is solid wood. A quality made piece well constructed to serve the maker for many years with three brass hinges to hold the lid. This box has all the pluses, check out the stunning heavy brass trims that decorate every edge for strength and beauty. This chest is about as original as you will ever find complete with drawer, trays that lift out for your drill bits and other small hand tools and room for the hand saw inside the lid. The hefty solid brass handles are built into the chest to lay flush until you pull them out to lift the chest. Both locks are present we do not have any keys. A very solid ... morepiece ready to use or display in your room for extra storage. I am not an expert on items we sell just describing what I see when I look at the piece. Use this as a guideline and follow along with the photos I have taken several at different angles to give you a good look at what you are buying. Condition: Some minor dings in the wood from years of use but NOT abuse. These marks are customary with use over 100 years +. The hinges are firmly in place and hold the lid nicely, the drawer has brass pulls and works as it should opening and closing nicely. The inside may need to be wiped down and cleaned a little we are selling it directly from the workshop! All the brass is solid brass and well attached with NO missing pieces. Lid closes great, inner trays move forward and back to select your tools, they are removable. Some tiny dots of paint are present on the drawer and on the lid but a fine piece of steel wool and wax would probably remove these nicely. Up for bid is an antique wood and brass box. I'm not an expert but from what I could gather it appears to date from the 17th or 18th Century. It may have been used as a ship captain's chest or strong box or a writing/Bible box. It has a number of internal compartments including one that locked. There is also one that looks like it would have held pen quills. The wood is quite dark and very hard and dense and the brass is hand wrought. This trunk is an unusual size and shape measuring 36.5 x 21.5 x 26 with a top that is not quite flat but not quite domed either. The trunk is in un-restored condition(see condition details for more information) and a nice find with a large amount of decorative embossed tin on the outside. Wood slats going vertically and almost all of the original hardware and latches. Up for bid is a rare original SMALLER antique trunk/chest. It has leather over wood with metal strapping and sitting on four metal roller/wheels. This chest has the original lock.but…no key. It also has the original paper lining with a Victorian style picture on the interior lid. There is also one area where it looks like someone wrote their initials in pencil. The exterior leather is intricately decorated with artwork depicting geometrical designs. The leather is fastened with numerous studs or tacks. Measurements are 25” x 14” x 13” The Bad: This trunk/chest is completely original so shows evidence of its age. Many“bumps and bruises” through the years as you can see in the many pictures I took. This one according to the late owners family was much travelled around India. All the brass fittings are still in position and the chest has wonderfull naturally aged patina. One of the brass carrying handles is very slightly different so may have been update at some time. Antique Vintage wood blanket chest trunk from 1800s
This beautiful solid pine trunk is from the late 1800's. It has the original hardware. Due to its age and material it has a little of the lower molding missing on one side(see photo 2) This is part of its charm. There are two small drawers inside the trunk. I found a nail. As pictured, in the drawer and similar ones in the chest itself showing its age. There is a crack that runs across P art the top of the trunk but doesn't affect its use. Lid closes and o pens. It is sturdy enough to be carried by the handles and a solid piece. No water damage. It would be a great coffee table or blanket chest. The patina is nice and its a beautiful piece from the past. Antique Victorian Chinese Camphor Wood Trunk Chest Locker Early 1800's or Older This is a beautiful piece. It measure's 37"x19"x16" larger once boxed) and is in really good antique condition. It has a strong patina and the exterior front lock cover has been lost. All of the other hardware. Hinges, handles, corners. And molding braces are in place. It has a scratches and marks all over the outside, but the inside is in great shape. The bottom panel has a crack in it. But it doesn't appear to effect anything. I didn't even see it until I was taking pics of the bottom. It is visible in the pic 8. A few of the previous owners left there names and dates that they owned the trunk during the 1800's. It appears it was passed down through several generations of a family of San Franciscans and San Francisco Bay Area. ... moreI know a little bit about this family through some research. Most of them have an easily traceable history. I am not going to make their names public however. A person of good authority was able to translate the cursive writing under the lid and revealed that the outer trim around the top and bottom of the trunk were installed as protective measures while traveling. Here is what he could make out: These trunk? corners. Top and bottom of trunk can be(revealed, seen, uncovered? by unscrewing the screws and slipping the strips off. Strips only were used while traveling. Here is a little bit more of what this person shared with me: The type of chest you have is the very best. These chests are made by Chinese craftsmen and have invisible dovetails. Incised brass fittings and a floating panel top(to prevent it from splitting in different climates) There was a very active trade with China when San Francisco was a boom town and these chests were brought in by the hundreds. This came to the US in the 1880s from Germany and was found in the barn owned by the same family whose relatives were those German Immigrants. We believe it is the original brown paint that has minor scuffs and scratches. There is no rusting through. Trunk is still very sound and sturdy and all sides are straight and not excessively dented. Hinges are good and the lid opens and close tight and square as it should. It is used and has wear, surface marks, scrapes and bruises from all those many years of gentle use. the interior and natural back board and inside the lid has been restored natural. Antique Primitive Mid-Evil looking. 1800's Distressed Cast Iron Brass and metal Wood Flat-Top Victorian Steamer Trunk Chest with heavy duty dated latches. See picture 3. 1870's Lock Box with No Key with brass lock! Heavy duty! Very heavy and well built. Much heavier than alot I have sold especially for the size. Unique angled lid. Heavy duty cast iron latches with decorative hardware. Condition is fair to good. Looks good if your looking for antique distressed look. Great piece to restore as well. Very strong and solid with no wobble in hinges or anywhere else. Someone has painted one side brown. Inside material is worn, stained and ripped and loose. One corner on bottom has small rust holes. Antique Victorian Flat Top Wood Slat Steamer Trunk Chest Coffee Table
This auction is for a 1890's Antique Steamer Trunk. It has been refinished by a professional. Over 40 hr went into it's transformation. It has 4 oak slats on the front. 2 back, 2 on the sides. It has a wood pine body is in great shape. It also has the four original metal casters wheels to move with ease. It has both original Handle. Solid& Strong great shape. It has Corbin Cabinet Lock, No Key It is unlocked and will not lock without a key. It is possible to have one made by a locksmith. It is clean inside and out. It was refinished to still look antique and not new. This Flat top would make a great coffee table. It measures 28"x18"x20" Its a very desirable size not to big not to small. Every trunk I refinish is treated like it’s going into my personal collection. My goal is not to make the trunk look perfect. ca 1840 mixed wood miniature / child's 4-drawer chest w. orig. mirror, 1/2 scale
Offered here without reserve is this fantastic Child's or Miniature ca 1840 chest of drawers that has no repairs or restorations aside from the replaced knobs on the drawers(most likely a replaced glass to the mirror as well) It stands but 41 5/8" tall to the finials on the mirror. Whereas the chest alone stands 25 3/8" x 17" wide x 12 1/4" deep. So she's made to 1/2 scale. With fully dovetailed drawers, she's also a menagerie of woods, including cherry, poplar and mahogany(I'm sure there's maple in there somewhere as well) But clearly she's American. What more can I add? Again, there is no reserve, but USPS shipping will run $35 since she's sure to hit the balloon rate charge on shipping.

Antique Shipping Chest Trunk Germany to NYC Wollner Dove Tail Wood Cubby Hole
Up for auction is this wonderful antique shipping chest or trunk. This was made incredibly well in order to travel the long journey from Germany to NYC. USA. Beautiful dove tail construction with a cubby hole for special treasures inside. What I especially love is all the original writing on the top of the trunk as well as on a cardboard sheet on one side. This was sent to a Rudolf Wollner a long, long time ago. Chest has really aged in what I consider a great way. Worm holes as shown, as well as rusty original hardware. Please look at the pictures for overall condition. Measures approx. 32 1/2" w x 15 1/2" d x 13" h. Approx. weight is just under 30 lbs. We will ship across US connecting states via Greyhound to a Greyhound station near you for $65.
