This late 1800's CHILD'S STEAMER TRUNK would have possibly held its' clothes and undoubtedly held its' familiar treasures which made it feel more comfortable on a long journey. Part of the travels of this trunk's owner would have been by sea as well as land. As evidenced by the many travel decals on the outside of the metal steamer trunk. From Egypt, Australia, Holland, etc. This child was a world traveler. The reinforced metal trunk measures 11 X 11 X 20 inches. Has four pull-out drawers and one side of the trunk is a place for coats and clothes, or possibly a favorite doll or bear. The trunk was produced by EDUCATIONAL PLAYTHINGS; their label is on the lock side of the trunk. 1800's dome hump camel back steamer travel chest trunk alligator skin design
Thanks for looking at my listing. This sale is for a very unique piece of history. It's called a steamer trunk dome style from the 1800's. Made of wood and metal. Great craftsmanship, there is a ton of detail available on this trunk. It's beautiful, and features an alligator skin"cover" over the center portion of the trunk, as well as on the sides. There's still the original victorian picture on the inside, and the tray is there as well. The trunk is damaged on the left hinge, and it appears someone at some point tried to fix it, but the wood split. A beautiful piece to have and restore, or just keep it the way it is for history sake. I don't know much else about it, like the origin, or how many families it went through. This is one of the most unusual and attractive antique steamer trunks I have found. Unusual design reinforced with multiple wood slats and copper detailing throughout. I acquired this particular trunk about 15 years ago and used it for awhile as an accent table with a glass top in my design studio. Although I am on the constant hunt for vintage trunks, this is one of the most unusual I have ever found and have held on to it for years awaiting another purpose. All wood construction with a multitude of wood slat reinforcements and copper straping with riveted joints throughout. Much of the original hardware. Including hinges, is intact but the front lock/latch ... moreand one side handle is missing. The interior is clean with remanants of an old paper lining that has been pealed away to reveal that the wood used in the making of the trunk was most likely recycled from antique wood crating. With one area showing an original stamp for the"American rubber company" I was surprised to see this and since this trunk is at least 100 years old, I think it is such an unusual and charming detail The trunk has probably had a coat of protective finish added to the exterior at some point and the wood has developed an aged and rich patina. There is a burn mark(see photo) on the left side. Indicating at some point in its history this trunk even endured some sort of fire, but is clean and undamaged otherwise. This trunk looks fantastic as is- I used it with a custom cut(very inexpensive) glass top for use as a coffee table. Either way. An absolutely stunning and historical addition to your design scheme! very nice antique carriage travel trunk chest brass tacks 1827
Selling this old travel trunk/chest that I have refinished. The trunk is covered with old brass tacks. The top has a design that resembles a football along with the letters I.W. Prior to refurbishing the chest was covered in deerhide and the brass tacks shown. The interior had newspaper dated 1827. Prior to staining the wood had an almost white color to it. As a result. The Early American Minwax stain looks great on it. The trunk was treated with three coats of polyuerothane. The handles are original as is the lock. There is no key. I add the stays to the trunk. Antique R.H. John Galvaston Trunk Factory Stagecoach travel trunk
This is an antique R.H.John Galveston Trunk Factory stagecoach trunk from between 1880's- to no later than 1910. I could not find anything like it for comparison to get a better date. The trunk is made of metal. Wood and canvas coverings both inside and out. It has a red wash on it, so it was done right and appears to be original. It looks really good, but does have some dents along the side/edge fixtures, a small dent in bottom metal base, some tearing of the inside canvas, mostly along sides, is missing an inside wooden brace that would have possibly held a top box, has some staining spots on inside lid, has an outside tear of the canvas along a side edge about 3-4 inches long(pictured) the outer leather straps are worn, but still strong enough to lift it, there is an inner strap that is broken and 2 long cracks of the inner wood bottom ... morethat does not show through to metal bottom. There are wood slats along the top, bottom, and sides. Please ask for more pictures if you need to see more. This is heavy for it's size-over 37 pounds. It is 41 1/2 inches long, 20 3/4 inches wide and 13 inches deep.

Up for sale is this beautiful restored large antique victorian roll top steamer trunk with key. It measures 35" long by 22 1/4" wide and 25" tall. The original canvas that wrapped this trunk has been removed and the wood was sanded. Stained with minwax"cherry" then sealed with two coats of spar urethane(light sand in between coats) The interior lining has been removed and the wood was sanded then stained. The trunk shows obvious aesthetic signs of age but these details give it the perfect patina and look. The structure of this trunk is solid and it is functional as a coffee table, blanket chest, etc. A great piece with tons of character that will be the focal point of any room. If you are looking for an early trunk check out this hide covered dome top wood truck in original as found condition. Measuring approx. 27" wide x 13-3/4" x 12" high. Covered in its original hide skin dating to the early 1800's or before. This is a true antique. The original lock and hasp are intact. Each end has the original matching iron handles to lift and carry the trunk. The inside has the original old worn wall paper. This trunk is solid, the wood on the bottom is very clean without rot. Inside the Trunk has a Wardrobe side on the Left for hanging formal clothes as would have been the case in Victorian times. The wardrobe side even has its Original Wooden Hangers that are built right in and an ingenious Slide Bar so you can decrease the area as the size of your clothing dictates. Below the wardrobe is a fold down box which we assume was for shoes. To the Right is a 4 Drawer Dresser with Drawers for even more storage. The drawers are all relatively narrow given the trunk's size but they are all Extra Deep! Outside. The trunk has a Black Leather like outer surface with Big Metal Corner Protectors on all Corners and all the Protectors are Intact! These fancy dome top trunks were generally bridal trunks. This trunk was refinished at some point in its life having a very clean exterior finish that looks nice. The interior is super clean wood with no odors or uglies. Condition is as shown a solid trunk that has a lot of life left in it. Both leather handles are in place. The clip locks on each side of the front are in place and working to securely close the trunk. The lock plate does not have the tongue to lock the chest but we have no key so its best. This is ca.1830 restored Antique Deer Skin Ladies travel trunk. It is 18"x 11"x 9"tall and weighs 7 lbs. The basic trunk is made of pine. The original deer hide was in such poor condition that it had to be removed. It was recovered with new deer skin with leather strapping and brass tacks per the original. It has hand forged handles and lock with a working Key. It would also make a great Doll Trunk. The interior is covered with a floral print and includes a lovely lithogragh. Here we a Victorian Era children's travel wood trunk with tin overlay. It is in unrestored original condition. Eagle Lock Company U.S.A It is a great looking vintage trunk. Well loved and traveled. The handles are long gone. The right latch does not line up. The bottom has a couple of cracks. This trunk measures 18-1/8" in length. 10-1/2" wide and 10-1/2" tall. This trunk has great character including at least three very old paper lading tags one from Charlevoix Michigan by American railway express. This trunk was well traveled in it's day. When we were inspecting the trunk we noticed what looked like an old stamp stuck to the bottom under a flap of the interior covering. This"stamp" turned out to be a very small picture. Taken obviously in the victorian era, of two adorable children. There is a name or some ... moreword written on the back in pencil so badly faded we are unable to read it. Most of the brass studs are present, the front latch is non functional, the hinges with square nails are fine. It is a very special piece of 19th century history. Authentic estate found C1890 Louis Vuitton travel trunk with the Damier canvas. Sporting a great inside paper label with an early low serial number#109711. The trunk measures 36" long. 19 1/2" tall and is 20" deep. We are selling the trunk as we found it. All original untouched. Overall the condition is good. There is the expected wear from use including dents and dings, small tears, surface rust etc. There is attic grunge which could be cleaned. The wood on the top has shrunk in time and torn the canvas slightly. The brass tacks could be polished, etc. It is missing its inner tray. The photos tell the story better than I. Civil War Era Leather Deer Hide Skin Travel Trunk Stagecoach Chest Steamer Texas
This is a great old piece of folk art. I bought it from a lady who bought it at an antique store. She told me that it was Civil War era and that it is covered in Deer hide. She said that she lined it with fabric after she bought it. The leather is embossed with what makes me think of a Texas Star. Plus there are other decorative embossed accents. As you can see from the pictures some of the leather has come loose and it is ripped. Some is worn almost to the wood, on the back there are some water drip marks and as you can see plenty of inconsistency in color and wear. I do not know if the sides originally were covered but they are now exposed wood. Amazingly, the leather buckles are still intact and operational but it appears that a latch is missing front center. There are some exposed screws on the back where parts of the leather straps have ... moredeteriorated. A couple of rivets are missing. There be maybe other pieces missing, for example there are no handles on the sides. It opens and closes easily and seems to be a solid and sturdy structure. I think it is a fantastic decorator piece for a home, store or set, as well as a really cool piece of history. I cannot say I've ever seen another like it- especially with the embossed designs on the top.
