The 2 rings on the front face with a date of 1840 and the names of the couple is a nice give away this is a pretty special find. Its has its flaws from age but this one is 100% Org. no touch up work done to it. It is all hand peg construction with a super nice hideing box on the left side. Some of these were made with secret compartments. But I havent had the time to look. The Handles the lock& the hinges are bold gothicstyle hand forged iron It is still useable but I have miss placed the pins for the lid. All the wood is in good condiion on all 4 sides and lid. Very Very Old Primitive Trunk. Original tole painting still visible on front. Hand dovetailing. Blacksmith forged handles and hardware. Measures approximate 39" wide. 27" tall, 23" deep. Look closely at pics. Looks like late 1700's early 1800's. Decorators dream item here. Definitely not perfect but great patina and weathering. I would not know how to begin to know how to ship this item. So its pick up only. I am in central Indiana. 30 miles northeast of Indianapolis in Anderson Indiana. Antique Pine Sea Chest with Hand Forged Hardware. This incredible chest was built to stand the elements and the test of time. Hand forged latches and lock. Handles and nails adorn this large chest. Inside of chest features a false top to lid with original latch. Solid pine planks provide amazing construction. Would make a fantastic conversation piece in any home. Or could be used as a prop for the stage or pirate party! Condition: Good condition for age. Some splitting to planks and one very old repair done to inside right wall. As shown. ANTIQUE (1845) OVAL WOODEN CHEST TRUNK HAND-FORGED IRON HARDWARE
Striking antique. Oval, wooden lock chest with hand-forged iron hardware. It has the date"1845" carved in the underside of the top with initials ZH and ZVSV stamped on the top and on the underside of the top. I am unsure of the origin but the area of Germany/France has been suggested. The chest was clearly built with the purpose of keeping its items secure, perhaps for traveling or shipping purposes. The chest is approximately 20.25" wide, 15" deep and 12.5" tall from the bottom to the highest point of the dome top. It weighs approximately 14 pounds. Being an old chest. It shows expected wear. It is overall very solid but does have its share of dings, scuffs, and some minor loosening of the iron band and wood bottom trim in a couple of areas.
