The sewing box is made of deeply carved sandal wood. The reliefs feature borders of flowers, and central panels of exotic birds and winged animals surrounded by foliag and flowers. The carving is intricate and detailed. The box is fitted with brass hinges and a lock but no key. On opening the fitted interior is revealed. The box is lined with tan leather with an embossed diamond pattern and is finished with gild gilding. Various sections hold silver and white metal sewing/craft implements. The lower section has four tubular rests in each corner carrying two thimbles, a pin cushion and a little dome topped tape measure. There are three pockets to the front, the tubulat central contains a cork screw and the right hand pocket has a pin cushion fitted. The back of the base is fitted with a deeper single pocket that contains a little red velvet sewing pouch with some pins and needles. This was really a great find.a turn of the century Late Ottoman Turkish or Middle Eastern inlaid with mother of pearl walnut chest or dowry or blanket box. The pattern involves stars and other geometric shapes and some carvings that resemble birds and it is in very good condition. Patina is beautiful and finish is original. The base is an interesting combination of incised lines and inlaid mother of pearl stars on a reticulated base. It is all hand dovetailed. Height = 19 5/8" Length = 33 5/8" Depth = 16 5/8" Add a piece of glass to the top and have the perfect coffee or even side table. This coffer has multiple minor cosmetic repairs, age splits, and dings throughout as you would expect from a piece made in 1800. There is not a key for this trunk, although the lock appears to be functional. Beautiful antique oak trunk with hand carved ornamentation. Th original finish that was hand polished with 0000 steel wool and pastewax. It has a frame constructed of 7/8" thick oak with oak veneered panels. Bottom outside frame is carved with a nice detail. The medallion under the keyhole is a series of swirls. Flowers and leaves. The black metal strap hinges are stunning. Ball feet are 2 1/4" in diameter. The trunk measures 37" wide x 18 3/4" deep x 19" tall. Inside is 34 1/4" wide x 16 5/8" deep x 15 1/4" tall. There is no key so it's unknown if the lock works— it's marked"Secure 2 Lever" There are some marks from age and the veneer on the top is a little wavy. French carved oak trunk. Late 19th century. This finely hand-carved trunk has a rich medium brown patina and features a lion with a coat of arms in the center, flanked on either side by a king and queen. The sides of the trunk also are carved with a king on one side and queen on the other. This is very old, and shows signs of wear as would be typical from age and use. There are cracks to the wood through the front left panel and on the right side of the trunk as well as minor losses to the carving. There is a small chip on the king's crown on the right side of the trunk. The carved molding along the bottom right shows slight warping due to age.
