Here's what I stated about it s condition: Metal overlay surfaces have been repainted and restored. Some scratches and scuffs marks on beautifully grained wood slats. Beautiful Victorian Era Steamer Trunk. This trunk has been conserved or restored. Has had quite a bit of work, but the only thing that has been added& isn't original to this trunk are the leather handles. Everthing else is original to this particular trunk The trunk had 3 coats of paint that were removed from its exterior. Afterward it is was polished witha metal polish, there is still some patina, after 100 plus years it is almost impossible to remove all of that with just cloth and polish lol The paint was light green and off white. In certain places small remnants of the paint may remain. Without damaging the surface of the trunk it is very hard to totally get it all off. Also I think it adds to the already very rustic beautiful charm of the trunk. It is important to note the color variations you see in the pics on the metal ARE ... moreNOT paint. This is actually a pattern in the metal. One the end pieces I think it is patina and discoloration. But the middle piece on lower portion, and next to end pieces on top, I think it is the way the metal is made. There are little flower or star shaped medallions on top of trunk and on the front of trunk The wooden slats have been sanded stained and finished The handles were replaced with strips of 100% leather Interior of trunk was stripped of all inside paper. It has been left natural wood so new owner may leave as is. Or finish out to suit their needs best. One of the most unique things about this trunk is the locks on either end of trunk. And latch in center Normally one most I have seen. There will a latch on both ends, and a lock in center, this one is reversed! We are pleased to offer this very nice. BEAUTIFUL antique VICTORIAN steamer trunk. The chest has a domed top and is wood and metal construction. It features ornate iron hardware and trim and leather side handles. This wonderful trunk has an UNTOUCHED, ORIGINAL INTERIOR. The interior is lined in decoupage fashion. It has 4 compartments that are each defined with a different decoupaged portrait. They lift up(the top compartment lid lowers) for storage but they are not the"lift out" removable type of replacement trays. They are constructed of a heavy cardboard type material and have hooked closing mechanisms. The largest compartment is the lower compartment. It is accessible by lifting the sides of the center compartment. The trunk is very nice and is very much in original condition with very little restoration. The leather handles ... moremay have been replaced at some point as they have an aged patina but are in excellent condition. The trunk has the original locks but has no key. There are two clasp closures with locks on the front with a large center lock. There are 4 small wheels on the bottom of the trunk for easy transport. They are in good working condition. The trunk has no major dents or damage. There are a few minor dings but they are not very noticeable and they do not distract from the beauty of this chest. The interior is aged and is in untouched and unrestored condition. It is quite lovely with no major rips or tears to the decorative paper lining. The trunk measures 30" wide. Colorado around the late 1800’s or may be the very early 1900’s. This trunk is clad in metal with wood slats. Decorative embossed gold hardware and canvas straps. The metal banding was used to strengthen them and for decorative design. All the hardware appears to be original. I have not tried to clean it, because some people prefer the original patina. Measures approx 22.5" x 14" x 4.25" high plus a little more for the feet. I'm guessing this piece would have held sterling silver flatware. I think that it is a flatware chest. Though it has been gutted. You could reline this if you wish. Evidence of some moisture damage on the bottom with warp and stains on the wood panels. The outside lid has a black silhouette of dancers. The wood is a walnut? dark stain. Not sure what is the wood. The thickness of the wood around the edges is about 5/8" The bottom panels are thin. The lid inside is nice with a convex print of George Washington and people dancing. The print in the frame measures approx 10" x 7.25" The inside ... moreof the lid is nice too. Antique 19th century trunk made by J.H. McNamara's Trunk Works Nos. 138. 140 and 142 Monroe St. Fort Dearborn Bld. Chicago. It measures 40 1/2" across, 24 1/2" high, 16" deep and weighs 55 lbs. The trunk is all original. The wood and leather has a lovely patina. The inside has two levels of cloth covered trays, and a box that slides from left to right. These trays all have leather straps. The label is on the inside cover, also the original paper tag written with the owners name W.E.H, 251 North Grove St. East Orange, N.J. There is a brass plaque on the top with the maker's name. There are no cracks inside or outside the trunk. There is a small gouge on the front right side of the trunk. The inside fabric on the side shows some wear. Up for auction is a Wood and metal humpback chest. The chest is original there has been no restoration done to it. The chest measures 26" long 17" tall 15" wide the paper on the inside of the chest is original there is a broken handle and some hardware issues that come with age. The inside tray is long gone. This chest has been kept inside a apartment for most of its life. It was not used for storage but as a showpiece so it has been kept very clean. Please scan below description to read shipping costs/details ~ thanks Fabulous antique cabinet maker's tool chest measuring 27"wide x 16-1/4" x 14-1/4" high. Hard wood probably oak? You won't find any veneer here this beauty is solid wood. A quality made piece well constructed to serve the maker for many years with three brass hinges to hold the lid. This box has all the pluses, check out the stunning heavy brass trims that decorate every edge for strength and beauty. This chest is about as original as you will ever find complete with drawer, trays that lift out for your drill bits and other small hand tools and room for the hand saw inside the lid. The hefty solid brass handles are built into the chest to lay flush until you pull them out to lift the chest. Both locks are present we do not have any keys. A very solid ... morepiece ready to use or display in your room for extra storage. I am not an expert on items we sell just describing what I see when I look at the piece. Use this as a guideline and follow along with the photos I have taken several at different angles to give you a good look at what you are buying. Condition: Some minor dings in the wood from years of use but NOT abuse. These marks are customary with use over 100 years +. The hinges are firmly in place and hold the lid nicely, the drawer has brass pulls and works as it should opening and closing nicely. The inside may need to be wiped down and cleaned a little we are selling it directly from the workshop! All the brass is solid brass and well attached with NO missing pieces. Lid closes great, inner trays move forward and back to select your tools, they are removable. Some tiny dots of paint are present on the drawer and on the lid but a fine piece of steel wool and wax would probably remove these nicely. Up for Auction is an ANTIQUE Vintage Steamer Black Metal Lined Wood TRUNK. It has Nice Metal corners and has a thin lining of metal over wood. Inside it is lined also. There is an insert that has makes a shelf. The bottom of the insert has detatched from the sides. See pictures. The wood is lined with blue and white paper. It has a lock by the Eagle Lock Company which was in business in the late 1800's and early 1900's. There is no key and the middle of the handle is missing. The trunk has the intials PTM on it. The metal is scatched. Warped and dinged from use and it is very old. The lining inside also has marks and is tearing from age. It also has rivots on the sides. Up for bid is an antique wood and brass box. I'm not an expert but from what I could gather it appears to date from the 17th or 18th Century. It may have been used as a ship captain's chest or strong box or a writing box. It has a number of internal compartments including one that locked. There is also one that looks like it would have held pen quills. The wood is quite dark and very hard and dense and the brass is hand wrought. Antique Immigrant Trunk Very Old Hump Barrel Back All Wood
Up for sale is a antique all wood immigrants trunk. It is a great antique trunk from the 1800's. It does show signs of aging wood cracked no lock in the front. The trunk is 44 3/4long. 24 1/4inches tall. The bottom is 18 1/4inches deep and the top is 23 1/2inches deep. It could use a good cleaning been stored for years. I will be listing this item plus other oak piece from a local estate. The owner was a refinisher. These were some of the projects that had never got done or even started. Up for bid is a rare original SMALLER antique trunk/chest. It has leather over wood with metal strapping and sitting on four metal roller/wheels. This chest has the original lock.but…no key. It also has the original paper lining with a Victorian style picture on the interior lid. There is also one area where it looks like someone wrote their initials in pencil. The exterior leather is intricately decorated with artwork depicting geometrical designs. The leather is fastened with numerous studs or tacks. This one according to the late owners family was much travelled around India. All the brass fittings are still in position and the chest has wonderfull naturally aged patina. Recently lightly cleaned and wax polished so all ready for the home. The brass fittings have been gently polished as they were almost blackened with age. One of the brass carrying handles is very slightly different so may have been update at some time. Antique Steamer Trunk, 7 dome oak wood slats- replacement parts
These are 7 dome top trunk slats removed from an old trunk. This is one of those trunks I saved for my garden. These are probably before 1890 because there are pairs of nail holes. In the mid 1890s there was a change to only 1 nail where the 2 had been before to save money. These slats have both double nail holes and single nail holes but they came from the same trunk top. These need to be cleaned and refinished. See photos for condition. I think I labeled the picture correctly. But I had taken the picture in October and was trying to match nail holes with actual pieces. too lazy to take new pictures) Sizes are approximate: 4- slats 18” 2- slats 17 ½” 1 slat 17” These were the best of the lot. Untitled Document Purchased at a recent estate sale in NC full of fine antiques. This beautiful ornate trunk was a nice rare find. It has many exquisite and elaborate details. Please see images. It measures 23" tall. 30" wide and 17.5" deep. A collector's item! Looks great for its age though it does have some wear. The only parts I notice missing on the exterior are one of the leather handles and it did not come with a key. There is a name written on the right side. See photos to judge condition. It has its caster wheels. Overall it is very nice and I believe everything is original. The inside seems to be original and in very good shape for the age. Antique Dome Top Hump Back Pressed Tin & Wood Slats Steamer Trunk Herringbone
A recent estate sale purchase. An antique 1870's dome top/ hump back steamer trunk covered with pressed tin in a herringbone/ basketweave pattern. The wide tin mixed in on the edges has a pattern of tiny diamonds with dots in the center. The lid has curved hardwood slats and lots of heavy tacks holding all of the metal in place, the tacks are most likely brass plated. The previous owner painted it a shade of dark rust/ reddish brown so you will probably want to refinish it- it looks as if it could be sanded down to the bare metal and wood because the paint isn't very thick.We believe the metal handles seen in the photos are not original to the trunk, they were probably replaced with the black metal handles whenever it was painted. The handles should be leather and if you'd like to replace them(as well as the metal brackets that ... morehold them) you can find them reasonably priced at any trunk restoration site on-line(they even sell them here on Ebay) The trunk measures approximately 31" long X 20" wide X 24" high at its highest point near the center. The tray for the inside of the trunk is missing. The hardwood slats and all of the metal on the trunk look to be in good condition. The bottom of the trunk is covered with black metal and 3 hardwood slats that have done a great job of protecting the trunk over the past 100+ years. The key is missing and we're not 100% positive that the lock is functional so it will arrive open. There are two(2) hinges on the back that hold the lid securely to the bottom and there are two small metal lever-action clasps that keep it closed tightly in front. These are a tight fit and probably need lubrication but you can still get them to open and close. These clasps are stamped what appears to us to be' PAT MAY 1875' The inside of the trunk is clean and dry and it retains its original paper lining- the lid has just a hint of the original chromolithograph and the border.
