Each ball measures 1" in diameter and has a screw-on brass cap with great patina and a attachment loop. One of the brass fittings has a stress crack but it fits securly on the ball. 3 of the balls have some very minor chips from being outside. Item is described and shown as best I can. For sale is a pair of vintage lightning rod balls. may be antique. These came from the farm country of Southeast Kansas from an Antique Dealers auction. In another auction I will list 2 metal vanes. The balls. One blue and one white appear to be like milk glass. The blue one has been used and has come chipping around both of its 1.25" lips. The white one has a pair of plastic fasteners attached and I notice some chipping on one end. This need cleaning. But otherwise I do not see any condition issues. About 5" long; softball size. Vintage Antique 68" Copper Lightning Rod with Blue W.C. Shinn Milk Glass Ball
This is a beautiful old copper lightning rod with metal stand and blue milk glass W.C. Shinn Mfg. Co. ball. The copper has a fantastic green patina and the stand has some surface rust. But it is still sturdy and functional. There are holes in the ends of the stand legs for attaching the stand to the roof or other structure. The glass ball is a bold robin's egg blue with the words W.C. Shinn Mfg. Co. wrapped around the middle. There are some tiny chips missing from the top rim and two larger chips missing from the bottom as shown in the 4th, 7th, and last photo. The ball still sits nicely on the metal disk, and there are no cracks in the glass anywhere. The white disk you can see under the ball on the photos is a thin foam disk that is there to protect the bottom rim of the ball, but it is not necessary and can be slipped right off. I ... morewill remove the stand and ship that part along with the ball in a separate box from the lightning rod to protect the ball from breakage and lower shipping cost. Vintage Shinn Weathervane Antique Lightning Rod Ball Cobalt Blue Old
This is a really nice full set of cobalt blue lightning rod ball. Pendants and pendant hanger. The 4 1/2" ball is marked Shinn Systems but not the Pendants. The hanger is included in this sale along with the 4 pendants and the round ball but not the rod itself. The whole set seem to be in very good original condition with no cracks or chips that are noticeable. The ball and pendants have a lot of imperfections in the glass and the pendants are pleated in shape. The 4-1/2' ball has on imperfection by one of the caps looks like a very small chip or mold issue and very small also, the 4- 1/2" ball holes are not perfectly centered in the ball. I believe this to be new old stock and in almost as new condition. Please email me with any questions I will be happy to answer them promptly and listed locally on cl. Vintage Lightning rod with weather vane red glass Blue globe
Up for bidding is a vintage lightning rod with weather vane and light blue glass globe. The globe has a few minor chips around the top edges of it as seen in the pics but they are hard to see when on the lightning rod and with weather vane on top. The weather vane is a directional one. Looks as though the original glass pane from the weather vane has been replaced with a different red pane. Possibly plastic, so I dont believe its entirely original. Neat original lightning rod ball. Cobalt. But a lighter shade of cobalt. Seam down each side. One very nice end, the other has some chipping which I have pictured. I believe one cap may be original, the other might be an older replacement? The holes in the ball are right at 1" The ball is right at 4 1/4" across. Nice original. Blue Glass Lightning Rod Insulator 4 1/2" Robin Sky Swirl Vintage Antique
This lightning rod insulator came from a dairy farm North of Emporia. Kansas. It is owned by an old friend of mine who is a professor at the university. It measures 4 1/2 inches in diameter and has no chips, cracks, or scratches other than a few very slight ones around the stem. As you can see in the picture, they in no way detract from the overall beauty of the piece. It is really in exceptional shape for having survived a hundred years of hailstorms and Kansas wind. Vintage medium blue milk glass lightning rod ball in the pleat round or Barnett pattern. This ball was made for the Jos. Barnett& Co. out of Riverside Iowa. No markings on ball) The ball measures 5" by 4 3/8" The collars have a dark ring from age around the base with typical light chipping. Nothing deep or close to the ball itself. Collars are on tight, not at all loose, some age discoloration spots seen on collars. Pictures did not show, but has some very faint darker blue swirl marks in the glass, probably done during manufacturing process. Please check all pictures as they are part of the description.
