Recent estate sale purchase. Bridport, Vermont. Purchased from one of our prime local vendors, we knew we just had to have this one. We do not know how old this one actually is. The few opinions we have had so far is 1940's but we honestly do not know as we are still novices in these type of items. Overall this piece measures 53" tall as mounted on the 1 1/2" wood base. The weathervane arrow measures 24" long. The rooster measures 19 1/2" tall x 15" long ... morex 3" thick. The body(including the head and the legs) appears to be two pieces of stamped copper(non ferrous? soldered at the seams. The tail is a flat piece of stamped metal soldered on to the body. The rooster is soldered on to the tubular arrow. The rooster does lift up and off the mount. With the exception of the two balls, one just below the arrow and the other below the directional markers, the remainder of this item is iron. The directional arrows are fastened to a tubular shaft with set screws. These are moderately rusted and weathered. This tubular shaft is threaded on to a round small mounting base plate which is fastened to the wood base. Very good overall condition showing atypical age related patinas, wear, corrosion, etc. We see a small spot on one of the arrow tail feathers detaching from the shaft and may need new solder or epoxy. We see the small two halved copper ball has a tendency to want to separate when not under pressure of the rooster pressing down on it. Another solder or epoxy fix. A nice vintage"medium" size barn cupola from a barn roof in rural Syracuse. Nebraska. Measures 46 1/2" square and about 12 foot tall. Is attached and stands on four 4x4 wood lumbers. Some rusted out spots near crown, underneith, could be primed and stopped. About 10 bullet holes in total. The weathervane is present and removeable. Cast iron& copper weathervane. The animal from the fin of the weathervane is missing. But another may be attached. I supplied the two vintage blue glass balls. The big round piece on top is aluminum, the base is galvanized steel, but the small piece in the center of the top is plastic. It has some slight bending/dings here and there. But it's generally in nice shape to be older and used. I'm using the postage calculator on this. And sometimes it charges too much for postage. Antique Vintage Horse Weather Vane Folk Art Original Paint Barn Lightning Rod
Lovely piece of folk art. This vintage weather vane is painted brown, with black mane and eye and harness with rose on one side. There is a jagged hole right on the center of the rose on the harness where this was probably hit with a shot of some kind. There are no other dents or cracks. 11 inches wide by 9-1/2 inches high. I am not sure what type of metal this is made of. But it is non-magnetic. Perhaps old zinc? There are a couple of very small scuffs on the paint where the metal underneath looks like a dull gray. The metal is hollow and not too heavy. The horse weighs 6.9 oz. Two of the hooves have holes in the back where this was attached to the rest of the weathervane. ANTIQUE AMISH BARN LIGHTING ROD This came off an old Amish barn roof in Lancaster. Pa. This was the only one that survived complete. It still has the original ball, not cracked. Measures approx. 30" tall from base where it attaches to the roof to the tip. Can be changed by spreading the base legs apart, if needed. It also will extend to 39" by sliding the center copper rod up. At the base of this rod is where you would hook the copper ground wire. Here we have a RARE find and that would bean Authentic ANTIQUE Horse weather vane with a Large Iron arrow pointer. I took this from a fallen down barn years ago up in Pennsyvania and I gurantee it to be OLD and as described. Base measures about 23 inch from end to end. The Horse is about 9 inch from end of the tail to the end of the nose.This was how it was when i found it, not sure if it had fletching on the Arrow shaft at one time, if so no signs of it. You can see that the horse has been reattached to the arrow and maybe has some other old repairs but obviosly done a Long time ago. Was done in a primitive manner but still seems solid. Horse has several spots where it looks like it was shot with a small caliber gun, None of this detracts I don't think but please see my photos which shows all this well. Iron arrow is well rusted from ... morebeing out in the elements for probably over 100 years, still solid though. Horse looks to be made out of Zink and has some good detail to it like these older ones often did. Body was made in two sectionas and then joined together.Again this is an authentic Antique Horse weather vane that was used for probably over 100 years and repaired when it needed it so please do not expect one that looks new OK? Here is a vintage cast aluminum weather vane with a sailing ship pointer on top which spins freely. The Ship and directional markers are made from thick cast aluminum. The center pole appears to be brass. Although it is quite tarnished. There is a metal mounting plate at the bottom. And under that a circular wooden base that is very weathered. Measures 28" tall and 16" wide at the widest point, Very solid and well made. The wooden base will need replacing or repairing if you plan to use it. Vintage Rooster Aluminum Weathervane Copper Base Brass Rod Rooftop Barn 38" Tall
You are bidding on a vintage rooster weathervane. It is approximately 60 years old or slightly older. It was attached on the top of a roof and was taken down and stored when the new owner of the property rebuilt there. It comes apart and if you look at the pictures you can see how it goes together. The base is made of copper with is painted black. The copper is placed over a wood base. The paint has flaked in several places. The base measures approximately 17 inches on each of the 4 sides. The rod that holds the weathervane looks like it is made of brass but I'm not sure. The directional N-S-E-W sits on this rod and there are large screws that tighten it onto the rod. The S mark was repaired at one time as you can see from the picture. The rooster and arrow sit on top of the directional N-S-E-W and will spin freely on the rod. I believe ... morethe rooster. Arrow and directions are all made of aluminum. This piece looks to have been painted a black with red markings. I am leaving it the way it was found and you may choose to repaint it to your liking. I do not see any type of markings on this piece as to who the manufacturer may have been. The whole weathervane assembled measures 38 inches tall. From the bottom of the directional N-S-E-W to the top of the rooster it measures 20 inches tall. The distance across from the front of the arrow to the back measures 24 inches long. This is a Remarkable Hard to Find PAIR of MATCHING Architectural Vintage Barn Roof Metal Cupolas with Running Horse Weather Vanes. Cupolas are comprised of a metal material which appears to be galvanized tin and are vented with sloping roofs. The horse weather vanes and shafts appear to be made of a cast aluminum material. These cupolas originated from a barn from a local Fairbanks Ranch Estate. This pair of Weather Vane Cupolas would be perfect for a barn or house roof top. However they would also work as interior Large Scale Architectural/Decorative Elements Each cupola measures approximately 57 1/2" tall to the top of each horse. The bottom base measures about 28" by 28 1/2" and each base of the cupola, the vented section measures about 32 to 33" tall. Condition is good with wear expected and commensurate with vintage ... moreitems. Cupolas have a weathered patina with the white paint chipping and flaking throughout. There are areas where there is a rusted patina on some of the painted areas. One of the horses on the top does spin around. The other is stationery. VINTAGE COPPER & BRASS HORSE WEATHERVANE FROM OLD BARN
Here is an old weathervane we found in an old horse born back in a grown over field. The horse is copper and the N E S W letters are solid brass. The ball is copper. And the mounting pole is metal. It was covered with years of dust when we found it, and pictures 1 and 2 show it before it was dusted off. Note the cobwebs and thick layer of dust on the horse and the N E S W. We dusted it off, but didn't fully clean it, as we wanted to let the new owner clean it to his or her preferenes. Pictures 4, 5, 6, 9 show the weathervane after it was dusted. It is a beautiful large weathervane that stands 44 inches tall from top of horse to bottom of metal pole. The horse is approximately 30 inches long. This looks like an old timer and it has been resoldered in a few places and there are a couple of splits in the brass here and there. Picture 7 shows ... morea split in the lower tube near the horses right foot, however it doesn't affect the way the weathervane operates. When a strong breeze is in the air, the horse will swivel on its pole as all weathervanes do. New owner may want to have it repaired, but that's a matter of choice. As mentioned previously, it needs a good cleaning, but the patina that's on it now makes it have that really vintage look. The arrow itself I would say is in good condition for its age. I do not see anything broke but I do see right between the tip of the glass and where the lightning rod goes in where one of the little things comes out just the tip is missing-it would be close to the narrow tip of the glass. Vintage Antique Lightning Rod with WeatherVane Barn Farm Primitive Garden Decor
This lightning rod with weathervane came off the barn at my dad's farm. It was removed many years ago and has been sitting in the barn for years. The ball is NOT made of glass like some antique rods. It appears to be plastic. The Lightning rod and weathervane feel and look like aluminum. There is some blue/green patina that suggests the possibility of copper, but I can't be certain. A long time ago, my dad had the metal roof painted with an aluminum paint which is now on the lightning rod(the ball is originally white) I have not done anything to clean it and will leave that to the new owner. This is an old brass/copper/tin barn advertising tag or plate with raised lettering. For a frost proof Victor generator manufactured by Moore Bro's Lightning Rod Co. of Maryville. Mo. It measures appx 6-3/8" long by 4-1/2" tall. I was told they put these on the side of a barn where they had installed this brand of generator for advertising and identification purposes. It has serial number 637 on it and has patent dates of Nov. 19th, 1912, and Nov. 30th,1915. A very neat old primitive piece!
