Up for sale is an antique horse form weathervane recently found in the Northern indiana area. It is found in good used condition and comes attached to part of its original post. It is sheet metal and offered in as found condition with its original finish. This piece has pegged construction as it joins the post. The only condition issue to discuss is rust to both sides. The directional post the horse rests on is missing both ends and the tail shows minor losses. It measures approximately 12" x 8 1/2" in size. Has wonderful design& detail. We've enjoyed this piece in our family room on top of an entertainment center for about 8 years. I've been told to find a new owner for this piece. Tail& body, with at least 18 rivets, possibly handmade, fastened to its metal rod strapping reinforced backside and bracket fittings for roof mount. Large Vintage 1920s FOLK ART Metal GIRL IN GARDEN WATERING Weathervane
Description ANTIQUE/VINTAGE GARDEN GIRL WEATHERVANE Charming vintage metal silhouette style weather vane measuring 19-1/4" long and almost 9" tall. Featuring a woman in bonnet and period clothing holding a huge watering can with long spout- stylized water pours though the head and quenches several blooming flowers. Metal appears to be either brass or copper- it has a dark patina from age. And it's hard to tell- vane is sturdy and non-pliable- cut outs are mounted into a rather crudely rolled tube base that is held together by three screws- there is a hole in the tube middle bottom for mounting on a vertical stand(no longer present) small holes are pierced in the flower heads and on top of the bonnet. I believe this is a home project, made circa 1920- condition is very good with no bends, breaks or damage other than normal patina ... moreto the metal and although it appears as if a side is missing from one flower, it was made that way- edges are all smooth from age. Just a charming large silhouette image of a woman in her garden- purchased in Ohio, I've had it hanging on the wall for years, but it could easily be mounted for display as a weather vane. ANTIQUE PRIMITIVE FOLK ART WOODEN SWAN WEATHERVANE ORIGINAL PAINT AAFA
Freshly found. This wonderful swan or hissing goose folk art weathervane has a fabulous, strong presentation in its folky form. Measuring approximately 39” in total length by 11” wide at the widest and about one inch thick, I believe it hails from the first quarter of the 20 th century. The old repairs along the wing and the base appear to have been put in to stabilize cracks that had begun. But not travelled. The neck either had been a separate piece, or had sheared off at some point as it too, has the old pinned repairs. It does fit well when pushed in place but still wobbles, and will need reinforcement along the old pin shadows that have fallen out to make him fully secure again. I’ve left him as shown to show where the old pins had attached. Very, very cool form. Just off a barn in central Iowa where it's stood for over 90 years. 55 1/2" Tall. Arrow with man in jalopy is 24 3/4" long with the car itself 10" long and 5" high. Car is aluminum. Arrow and 3 shafts to legs are cast iron and are weathered. No breaks. Lightning rod is copper which has verdigris with time. Only problem is the ring under the arrow has split. Does not affect it in any way. Could be replaced. This is"as found" condition with a great old surface from age and exposure. Very folk art in appearance. This wonderful piece of folk art was recently purchased by us out of an estate near Philadephia Pennsylvania. We concur with the former owners in the thought the vane was likely to have resided on a building which housed a chimney sweeping service in the Philadelphia area during the turn of the 19th century. This allowed the piece the service of acting as a trade sign as well as a weathervane. As you can see the profile of the piece is a striking sillohette of a chimney sweep. The personage bearing a period top hat, and sporting ... morea tailcoat. In the sweepers hands he holds the tools of his trade, a flue brush and a ladder. Another specific element of great folk art is the blacksmith who created this piece included the profile of a cat on the edge. Complete with pointed ears, and a charming curled tail. The construction of the piece showcases great original ironwork. The blacksmith formed out the design of the weathervane in flat iron. And reinforced the back with wrought strap iron support brackets including three areas where a rod could pass through(see images) Over the course of time. The piece was painted with several layers of paint, mostly in shades of green. If you click the individual images you'll see you can produce enlargements which allow for a better presentation of the surface and original construction. You'll see that overtime and exposure to the elements the paint has flaked on the piece creating a wonderul'alligatored' finish. The metal beneath the paint. Also exposed over decades has pitted at some areas, creating a wonderful patina. One of the other aspects that make this one of the best examples we've ever encountered is the size. For your consideration is this beautiful antique copper Weathervane of Sulky Horse& Jockey. This old weathervane exhibits great patina! Included with with Jockey and Sulky weather vane is the matching directionals with 2 copper/ brass balls all mounted with a rod. This is a large weathervane measuring 49" tall. 31 inches long and 9" wide. This weathervane is in great overall condition. It does exhibit a few bends and dings here and there which is to be expected with a piece of this age. It has spent its life in the elements perched upon a barn in Mooresville Indiana which gives it that great patina. It appears to have had a few repairs made where a few solders broke loose. IT LOOKS GREAT mounted on a wall. The piece has wonderful, artistic lines- it's 28" long from the tip of the arrow to the end; the height is 12" from the tip of the horse's ears to the bottom of the arrow; and the horse itself is 13" long, but would be 2" or so longer if his front leg were still attached to the metal mounting. This auction is for a old Pig Weathervane/Lightning Rod Directional Arrow that came from a Missouri estate. It measures 21 5/8" x 5 3/8" The metal pig which I think is zinc measures 9" x 5" The arrow is cast iron and is straight. The back part of the arrow that the pig stands on is designed with twisted metal. It appears that a piece that originally went to one of the back legs is broken. I have a close up of it in the pictures. As you can see this little piggy was used for target practice and has several bullet holes in his body. The legs. Ears, nose, and tail are intact and the pig is secure on the arrow. It is weathered from lots of years on the barn and the cast iron arrow has some rust. The cow is a 3-dimensional construction made of thin metal. The other metal feels like cast iron? There are TWO glass balls. A white milk glass ball with dimples and a blue ball with stars! 1 Vintage weathervane. I am selling this for a friend who is about 90 years old. He made this quite a few years ago. I thought he said the rooster and arrow was made with either copper or brass. The width across for the direction letters is about 19" and the letters are about 3 1/2" tall. The arrow measures about 22 1/2" across and about 4" tall. The Rooster measures about 8 1/4" tall and about 8" wide. The whole unit measures about 27 1/2" tall. It was painted black white and red. There is a paint crack etc one one side of the arrow. Vintage Folk Art Weathervane (50's-60's), Dog Motif
The folks we bought our 1925 house from moved here in the late 1950's. And according to neighbors they promptly took down the original weathervane and put this one up. I don't know much about it other than it is in pretty decent shape for its age, has a dog motif, and a pretty simple folk art feel to it. I'd conservatively put the vintage on it to the late 50's, early 60's in that case.

We found this wonderful piece of folk art several years ago in an estate out of Massachusetts. The form as you can see is a full bodied cod fish. Complete with attached fins and punched scale patterns. The woman who we purchased the item from stated that she had found in off the coast of Mass. decades ago. Judging from the paint patterns and construction of the body. We feel the piece is circa 1940's, though several other dealers we have shown it to place it slightly earlier. A close pattern itself can be seen in some earlier weathervane catalogs, but again we feel the construction places it later. Also of note. And in agreement with the former owner, the piece has probably ... moreused at a sea-side town, the salty air corroding the surface into what now is an absolutely beautiful patina. Notably near the tail, and also at the lower fins. All the fins are still in place but the piece is in fragile condition. There is even some metal flaking in the interior, heard when the piece is moved. We love the compliment of the rusty surface with the old paint. The top features a sperm whale measuring 25" by 7" The N/S/E/W spokes measure 18" across. And the pole stands 18 1/2" high. Altogether, the whale measures approx. 26" tall. I have tested the weathervane with WD-40, but it does not turn. The copper has a light green patina and verdigris which adds to the antique character and overall appeal of this piece. The weathervane is in good condition for its age. But the tail section is a little rusty on top from being out in the elements. It has natural green patina on the copper. antique folk art pig weather vane rusted sheet metal
The sheet metal this pig is cut from is 1/16th wide so it is bendable. The pig stands 15 3/4" tall; the arrow is 19 1/2" long. The pig and arrow are not removable from the stand which measures as an oval 4 1/2" X 8" The pig rotates but would probably not do so in the wind or unless it was lubricated with oil or silcone. The stand is heavy and can tolerate rotation; it is heavy and the entire piece weighs 4 pounds. It is meant to stand on the oval as there are no screw holes or ways to mount the weather vane. The only history of this that I know is that it was part of an estate and unwanted by the heirs. It is a very pleasing. Has wonderful, rusty patina; and is a somewhat unique piece of folk art.

The condition of this cupola is perfect and if the high bidder only wants the weathervane, it does not have to be sent. There is a brass tag from the original owner, which reads, George W. Tait Vineyard Haven Mass 02568. Vineyard Haven is located on the island of Martha’s Vineyard. Measuring 24 inches long by 17 inches tall, the two mast schooner weathervane has spent many years outside. The original first paint is very worn and I found a couple of breaks to the wires, which have been restored with copper wire. Constructed from zinc, all of the sails are original. This weathervane looks much older than it actually is, but since there is a zip code in the address, it must be from the 1960s. Thankfully, the original owner removed this weathervane before it fell apart. I have up for sale a very nice vintage original circa late 1800s to early 1900s American Folk Art Sheet Metal Cut Out Silhouette HORSE WEATHERVANE. It is Fresh off the Farm. Picked out of an old granary. It measures approx 31" long, approx 26" tall and is made of two cut out and riveted together pieces of sheet metal. The vane is fully guaranteed as being authentic. Dating from somewhere approx. 1900 give or take. It was purchased off of an old family farm here in Wisconsin, I've been trying to by it for over 20 years. Really Nicely Done. Unknown maker probably done by a local tinsmith back in the day. I think that its a fantastic looking item. Perfect for a wall décor or to have a stand made with a rod for proper display. It is in Very Nice Original As Found Condition. Comes with the old bird poop and everything. All I ... moredid was dust it off. It was painted a grayish color and is caked with dirt. Bird poop, and who knows what else. It is riveted together and has an attachment section on the back so that it could sit on a metal rod for spinning. I will also be selling a HORSE WEATHERVANE. Large original antique copper folk art dairy cow weathervane. Cow has genuine green patina from many years of outside usage and wear and tear. This is definitely not a reproduction in any way. Shape or form. Two of the feet have broken spots or piece missing. See pics. Cow measures 30-1/2" from nose to tail, stands 22-1/2" tall and is approximately 3" thick at the thickest point. This is a beautiful Antique Primitive PHEASANT COPPER WEATHERVANE with attached directionals in very nice antique condition. Entire piece measures 29"H x 24" at widest point. Pheasant's approximate measurements are 8"H x 23 1/2"L at highest and widest points. N.S,E,W directionals and pole appear to made of cast iron. Please note that"N" is missing a portion of itself as shown in photos. Does not appear to be functional any longer. As the pole supporting the Pheasant has attached itself to the directionals due to extensive age. Appearing very old with wonderful patina. It is made of tin metal and iron rods. The NSEW pointer measures 2" ht. x 12" long. The tin horse wind direction measures 7" ht. x 13" long. It is not painted.just bare metal. It breaks down very easily and simple. So I will take apart when I ship it to keep from getting it damaged. Please look at my other items I currently have listed. Antique circa1840 Folk Art Weather Vane
People out there. This 15" X 19" vane came off one of the islands off the coast of Maine, don't ask me which one. We think it's probably earlier than 1840, it's 100% the way it was made, nothing has ever been done to it. We think it might very well be unique. Notice the whale. When it was taken down all they had to do was lift it off its shaft, thank God they took the time to take the shaft with it. We don't think you could ever find a match to it. This was taken down probably sometime before the civil war, long before factory weather vanes were even thought of. What a story he could tell, the rooster that is. My Grandson is very smart and knows everything. When he saw it, he did say"Gramps" that was done on a whaler. Well! Free shipping
