Mansion Sale: Large Antique 19th Century Oak Chest Coffer Mule Trunk Box Storage
Last year. April-June, I made a lot of eBayers very happy! I held a big sale of antique paintings and other items(over 100! from a large London mansion. Enthusiastic buyers won LOTS of wonderful family heirlooms for very little(see my 100% feedback! and came to pick them up from the house(a few minutes walk from London's Oxford Circus) I'd intended to move out and spent the rest of the year abroad. I'm now back in the UK and the place is(contrary to planning) still mine! So I'm back in the old house again, temporarily, and will be selling a few more things until my final move. Some of these things are items I hadn't intended to sell, so I hope you find something you like! Large 19th Century Oak Chest with Brass Lion's Feet and Older Parts. Used for Bedroom Blanket Box. Storage Chest/Trunk/Box"A grand old chest! ... moreFor years this has been a magical dressing up box! It's full of lots of antique costumes and accessories. Younger relations head straight for it when they visit! But it would be good as a blanket box or general storage. It's very tall and has a huge amount of space. It looks a bit more impressive than many similar items. Having some grand trimmings, almost armorial. The carvings on the front are very imposing and clearly of some age. This type of carving often surrounded a coat of arms, which may have been removed in years gone by. It also has some lovely brass lion's feet(which really need shining up…they'll look really good when polished! We believe the front of the chest is much old than the rest. It's not uncommon to have wooden furniture rebuilt over the years. Often when they suffer from woodworm or general wear. One of the four rosettes on the front isn't there(I've only just noticed this, after all these years! It's dark wood, so you don't really notice. Up for sale is this beautiful restored large antique victorian roll top steamer trunk with key. It measures 35" long by 22 1/4" wide and 25" tall. The original canvas that wrapped this trunk has been removed and the wood was sanded. Stained with minwax"cherry" then sealed with two coats of spar urethane(light sand in between coats) The interior lining has been removed and the wood was sanded then stained. The trunk shows obvious aesthetic signs of age but these details give it the perfect patina and look. The structure of this trunk is solid and it is functional as a coffee table, blanket chest, etc. A great piece with tons of character that will be the focal point of any room. Up for sale is this vintage or antique early 20th century humpback trunk. The front. Back and top have metal panels with a reptile skin texture. The side metal panels are smooth with a blue tint. The humpback top has wood banding. There is metal banding on the edges. It has metal one directional wheels on the bottom. There is extensive patina on the metal and wear on the wood finish. Part of the metal lid strip is missing on the front corner, and the leather handles are missing. It has 2 broken hinges and the inside shows use wear as in soiling, filth, staining. The lid on the insert is detached but is included with the trunk. It has a strong smell of moth balls. The lock does not latch and we do not have the key. However, the other 2 latches do function. The wood appears to be old growth Oak boards. Hardware is ancient and also hand made. There is what looks like some non orginal wood added to the edges. As you know Chicago was the center of Industry in the 1800's so it may have come from an old factory or on one of the many ships that came in from Lake Michigan. I did see a similar chest at the Chicago Historical society a few days ago that was from the early 1800's. I'm not sure how to date it. so see the pix and you be the judge. 1880's Dome Top Trunk Painted and Great Storage Pirate Chest
Up for auction today we have a very nice refinished antique trunk- dating to the late 1880's- this trunk is wood with tin covered over the wood. The original trunk came to us with drab green metal on the sides and front and top. The back has a marbleized yellow pattern on parts of it. I sanded the wood slats and stained and treated them with Tung oil and polyurethane- they shine and are beautiful. The top I painted hunter green- adding a nice"pop" to the trunk. It is not period by any means. Just cool and colorful. I finished the black metal sides with flat satin black and then polyurethaned the other parts of the metal. We replaced the handles and the trunk is solid- heavy- with the original four small castors on the bottom, making it easy to roll on carpet. I actually just refinished the inside by removing the old paper mounted within and then primed it with Kilz Paint and then painted the inside with a warm cream color. It has a removable inside shelf with two dividers( one divider is removable) It measures 36 1/4" long. 21 1/4" deep and 12 1/4" high. The removable inside shelf is 4" tall. It is super clean inside as you can tell by the pictures. It dose not have a key. The two side latches keep it closed up tight. Therefore the chest may be dated sometime during the late 1870's-90's. This storage chest is in very good overall condition for it's age, but the backside of the chest has a split in the wood on the rear left latch. The locks feature a cross style that turn to unlatch the chest. The interior features a variety of styles of paper coverings over the shelf and underside of the lid. Antique 1880's Tin Trunk - Great Storage - clean and in ORIGINAL condition
Every once in a while I come across a trunk in original condition that looks fine just the way it is- with character dings and scratches. Bit of paint gone- but all in all with tons of character and battle wounds. This is one of those trunks. It is in very good condition- looks nice and rustic and is ready to be useful and functional in your home or cabin in the woods. Here are some specifics about this beauty. It has been completely cleaned on the outside, dusted with Pledge and dried with a clean linen cloth. I did not sand the slats or do anything to this trunk. It comes from a local home- where it has been lovingly stored for 75 plus years. The family came from Lithuania to the US and used this trunk for travel. Many trunks were made here in the US and then traveled overseas to come back again. The original lithograph of a woman is found ... moreon the center top lid. The tray is also original and in good condition. Paper inside as mentioned above is torn and stained- but after all, it is over 100 years old. There is no lid stay, but I would be happy to add a cloth one- very easy. Bottom is solid, with four little wheels to make it easy to move on carpet. The inside still has its tray which removes easily. There are a couple of lables for Railway Express Agency and the initials A.M.F. on the side. As you can see in the photos it shows some wear. The sides and top are of single board construction with applied trim boards and it is of square nailed construction. The lid was attached with make-do iron hinges. It has an old steel lock but no key and a padlock type latch was added at a later date. It has iron handles at the ends. There are no marks identifying the maker. It measures approximately 35” wide. 20” deep and stands 19-1/4” high. It originally had three 1-1/2” wide strips applied to the bottom as feet to keep the bottom board from rotting but one of the strips is missing. Other than that its is complete. Genuine Antique Flat Top Steamer / Travel Trunk 2 Trays Storage Chest
Free local pick-up only. From a local M id S outh E state. this Antique Flat Top Steamer/ Travel TRUNK made between 1880 and 1920. After 1920. As trunks became mass-produced they were labeled with the"makers mark" Measures 36" length x 24 1/2" height x 21" width. This is a solid piece; all metal strapping, corner bindings& hardware is intact. The wood parts of the trunks structure are time worn but intact as well. The YALE lock is intact but there is no key. The two leather side carry straps have long since torn away- easy to replace with an old leather belt. Seldom found are the 2 interior trays that appear to be original to this piece. The top tray(photos#8& 9) has finger-hole lifts at each end; measures 33 1/2 length x 18" width x 4" depth. The tray flap-over lid is secured via 3 hinges on one ... moreside. The other would have been secured via the leather snap straps but again the leather has deteriorated away. The 2nd tray(photo#10) has what appears to be some sort of textile handle-straps to lift it out with; measures 35" length x 13 3/4" width x 7 1/2" deep. The interior of the trunk measures 19 1/2" overall depth. Understand that this truck is close to 100 years old and therefore smells old as well. Both the interior and the exterior of this trunk are genuinely time worn. A beautiful old aged piece as is or restore and make it your own. Up for auction we have a beautiful old rustic antique streamer trunk- this one is curved on the sides but offers a flat surface on the top- great for magazines. Or plants, or your coffee cup. Originally canvas covered the thick canvas was taken off and the wood underneath sanded and treated with Tung Oil, and Clear Shellac- a few coats of poly satin and the trunk was transformed to a useful piece of furniture for your home or office. It measures 30 x 18.5 x 20.5 tall. and weighs about 20 pounds. Inside has been completely stripped of old paper and left natural, nice and clean to store many different things. Offering a great large metal antique trunk. It is wood grain metal with wood slat accents and beautiful metal cleat details all in very good condition considering the age of the piece. The lock is present but does not work and there is no key. There is one leather strap missing. It does have wheels on the bottom but they may need some cleaning to release their moving parts.
