Antique Trunk Hardware Heavy Solid Brass Trunk Lock w/ Key by Hillebrand& Wolf. Lock plate measures 3 1/4 by 4 1/2. Hasp measures 3 3/4 by 3 3/4. This lock has a very rare locking mechanism. It is one of the few trunk locks that will lock without using the key. This is accomplished by a spring loaded locking pin. However. Whats more unusual than that, is what can be called a safety latch. Inserting the hasp into the lock, locks the trunk, but you can use the key to turn the latch even more, which is a secondary locking position. This made it harder for thieves to pick the lock. The brass hardware is all present and has not been highly polished, to preserve the aged patina. It could be polished if desired. The leather trim, corners, and handles are intact with typical signs of wear. The leather has all been treated with professional leather treatment polish. It is hard to find ornate trunk handles of this style that are still intact. The trunk is a great size for use as a table if desired. Condition notes: This trunk is in very good used condition. But there are signs of age and use which are typical for a trunk of 100 years or more in age. There are some minor issues I want to describe.
