This amazing chest has medieval bar or pub scenes on four sides. There are three different scenes. The two sides have the same. Unique scene, the top and front have two different scenes. This old chest has great patina. With colors ranging from brass to blueish greens. Interior appears to be older cedar. The back has a round medallion with scalloped edges and the words: Made in England PPB. I've searched this mark but have not found a maker. Experts have looked this chest over and suggested it is most likely late 1800s, possibly very early 1900s. The chest measures approx. 22" wide. 18.25" tall and 15.25" deep. The bottom ... morehas four holes, one in each corner, where someone probably attached caster wheels at one time. Some hardware has been upgraded, including the side handles. There is minor damage, a few missing tacks and loose trim in a couple places, that could be tacked down. No major damage. A great-looking, antique chest. Please scan below description to read shipping costs/details ~ thanks Fabulous antique cabinet maker's tool chest measuring 27"wide x 16-1/4" x 14-1/4" high. Hard wood probably oak? You won't find any veneer here this beauty is solid wood. A quality made piece well constructed to serve the maker for many years with three brass hinges to hold the lid. This box has all the pluses, check out the stunning heavy brass trims that decorate every edge for strength and beauty. This chest is about as original as you will ever find complete with drawer, trays that lift out for your drill bits and other small hand tools and room for the hand saw inside the lid. The hefty solid brass handles are built into the chest to lay flush until you pull them out to lift the chest. Both locks are present we do not have any keys. A very solid ... morepiece ready to use or display in your room for extra storage. I am not an expert on items we sell just describing what I see when I look at the piece. Use this as a guideline and follow along with the photos I have taken several at different angles to give you a good look at what you are buying. Condition: Some minor dings in the wood from years of use but NOT abuse. These marks are customary with use over 100 years +. The hinges are firmly in place and hold the lid nicely, the drawer has brass pulls and works as it should opening and closing nicely. The inside may need to be wiped down and cleaned a little we are selling it directly from the workshop! All the brass is solid brass and well attached with NO missing pieces. Lid closes great, inner trays move forward and back to select your tools, they are removable. Some tiny dots of paint are present on the drawer and on the lid but a fine piece of steel wool and wax would probably remove these nicely. Antique 1860's Stage Coach Wagon rare trunk leather brass nails old chest
Selling this rarely found stagecoach travel trunk from circa 1860 that has been refinished. The leather of the top of the trunk had shrunk to the point where it could not be reattached to the sides so I covered it with a black buffalo hide that is thick and comfortable to sit on. I think the results are pretty good.There is a minimal color difference between the old and original leather. Every brass nail is original to this trunk. Because the original leather could not be reattached to the top. I built a wooden seat, added some padding and covered it with the new hide. It functions perfectly as a seat. The interior of the trunk has a small door. It is through this small door that users would store their laundry. There is some available space to store some small items. The leather on the bottom. The sides on the top and bottom, are original. ... moreThe dust covers on the sides are original, but the cover on the front is new, as is the lid lifter. There is a lock behind the lid lifter, but there is no key. The interior is lined with come cloth that is dirty in a couple of places. I added two stays to support the lid. Handels are original, not sure how much weight they can support. Over all the trunk's dimensions are 24 x 13 x 14 1/2. I attached a picture of what the trunk looked like before refinished it. very nice antique carriage travel trunk chest brass tacks 1827
Selling this old travel trunk/chest that I have refinished. The trunk is covered with old brass tacks. The top has a design that resembles a football along with the letters I.W. Prior to refurbishing the chest was covered in deerhide and the brass tacks shown. The interior had newspaper dated 1827. Prior to staining the wood had an almost white color to it. As a result. The Early American Minwax stain looks great on it. The trunk was treated with three coats of polyuerothane. The handles are original as is the lock. There is no key. I add the stays to the trunk. Up for bid is an antique wood and brass box. I'm not an expert but from what I could gather it appears to date from the 17th or 18th Century. It may have been used as a ship captain's chest or strong box or a writing/Bible box. It has a number of internal compartments including one that locked. There is also one that looks like it would have held pen quills. The wood is quite dark and very hard and dense and the brass is hand wrought. It measures about 16 1/2" long x 10 1/2" deep x 4 1/4" tall and is very heavy. I have included a lot of pictures but please feel free to ask for more and ask any questions. Has owners name painted on side of trunk and below name Cincinnati, Ohio. Inside has blue maker tag, most of the tag is missing. Trunk is in Fair to Good condition, trunk is solid with no wood rot, All the cast hardware is good, cast iron and brass lock, some of the cast iron hardware is ornate and of good quality for the time. Front latch locks have a midevil look. Missing one wheel but the caster that holds the wheel is good. Trunk has paint loss, scuffs and scratches, rips in material, rust ect. Beautiful Antique c19th Coromandel Portugese Colonial Brass Strapped Chest & Key
A stately Portugese colonial influence 19th century chest. Hand chased brass strapping to each corner with a spectacular central brass escutcheon. Solid brass tear drop handles at either end and four spandrels in matching chased brass on the lid surface. I believe the carcass is oak. There being a great weight to cupboard, while the surface is finished in the highly collectible coromandel wood, with its unique striated grain. The front right door is secured by a hidden two lever lock. And comes with an associated early 19th key which works the lock comfortably. The left door is secured shut by a concealed brass sliding lock, inset in the rear base of the door. The large brass escutcheon spanning both doors anchors the right door over the left with a smart little beveled overhang. Good quality design in this piece. I couldn't work out how to put all this into the e-bay postage bit- so please ignore the £1.00 delivery! This was bought on e-bay about five years ago- as a gift for my son- who is now into Danish teak and has asked me to sell it for him. Think it was originally a brass bound cedar? household chest. That had a shaped pedestal fitted around the turn of the century along with extra brass hasp and staples for padlocks. It was probably purchased overseas, and when the owner decided to return to the UK, he made it extra secure for ... morethe voyage. It has a large initialled plaque on the lid(R.B. and a nice brass shield shaped escutcheon plate- but no key- also has big solid iron carry handles. The lid has internal locking hinges so you can rummage in safety. Measurements are 2' wide x 15" front to back x 14" high overall. It is in reasonably good condition- wood. Hinges etc are all sound- and looks great. Think the person who sold it me had a half hearted go at restoring it- so could probably benefit from being rubbed down and a bit elbow grease. In any case for something, someone very fine. The hand-engraved monogramed brass plate in the center of the lid is hand engraved with a gorgeous"K" with the dates 1877& 1902. Not sure exactly what that might indicate about this chest. Certainly its all gorgeous. The quarter-sawn Tiger Oak is spectacular. The brass corners appear to me custom or handmade. It's all beautifully put together with lapped rebated joints& inlaid walnut splines inside. This combination of the old solid brass hardware. Clean lines and quartersawn golden-oak give this chest an Arts& Crafts feel. It's a perfect height for a coffee-table or end-table. Condition of this chest is ... morefine to very fine. To my eye. Age-related character marks seem appropriate. The bottom looks like it may have at some point been replaced with laminated plywood, but it looks to be a clean job, all recessed underneath so as not to be visible at all. Might be a screw lost here or there, but nothing problematic that I see, and similar brass screws are available if desired. We've cleaned this piece carefully and rubbed it with fine wax to protect. Measures about 18" high. 28" wide& 20-1/4" deep. 1850 VTG ANTIQUE Jenny Lind Brass Bound Bread Loaf STAGECOACH TRUNK Chest Table
Wow! Cabin/ beach/ cottage/ loft/ apartment: Coffee table possibility! From the internet: In 1850. Jenny Lind, the Swedish Nightingale" came to America and had a two year concert tour. She had trunks which were made in London which were soon copied by trunk makers all over America, which we now refer to as Jenny Lind trunks. They were usually leather covered, with several iron or Brass bands around the trunk, fastened with large brass studs, and they curved in at the center.They are often called Bread loaf trunks. These trunks were often very decorative with brass locks, fancy tooled leather and elaborate interiors with paper lining and trimmings. Models made with brass banding are referred to as"brass bound" Jenny Linds. They were so popular that the style continued until the 1870s in many sizes and varieties, including doll ... moretrunks. Some also refer to these trunks as"stagecoach" trunks as they were also used for stagecoach travel. This is very unusual trunk looks like it was made in the 1800s. It was discovered in the attic of an 1836. NY farmhouse. We have no patents or dates to verify its actual age; however. Given the materials, the condition, and the style we are quite certain of this statement. It could be older. If you are an expert on trunks, and recognize this particular style, please let us know. He will be happy to incorporate any additional information in our listing. The stagecoach trunk has brass decorations on metal straps. It has some leather straps still remaining. One leather side handle is still present. We believe the original leather hinges were replaced at some time with the metal ones you see. American Chest 3 Drawers c1890 pin cove cherry & pine cast brass pulls
This chest of drawers has been in this household since the 70s when it was bought as antique. It has pin and cove joinery which was used in North America from 1870-1890. The secondary wood is pine and the main outer wood is cherry. It has a great French polished finish which is in excellent condition. The cast brasses are original and it has wood escutcheon keyholes. there is a lock on each drawer. It measures 37 1/4" x 31" x 18" approximately. The drawers are graduated. The top drawer has divisions inside. CONDITION: The finish is excellent although one side having sat near a sunny window is sunned a little. No rings or stains on the top. One of the molded pieces which constitutes a foot on the front is missing. The runners on the pine drawers inside have some wear since this was a working piece of furniture. Up for auction is an antique 19th C small trunk or linen chest recently found at auction in the suburban Philadelphia PA area. It is found in good used condition but has many surface scratches to all sides as well as having some wood loss. Photo 9. We are not sure if it was for linens, small furs, or what but it seems too large to be a glove box. This measures 11.75 x 23.5, an unusual long and thin table top size. This is 9" tall. Gold Rush Civil War Era Steamer Trunk Leather & Brass Chest Masonic AAFA
Rare. Incised leather covered trunk with large brass studs, about 1850-60. Beautifully crafted. This trunk comes with original key and superbly made lock which still works. Original wallpaper and leather secretary attache are in great condition for age. Comes with original keychain with engraved nameplate of the original owner from Portland. Connecticut. On the opposite side. There is a masonic symbol engraving, WSSTKSHT in a circle. Has typical wear for age. As shown, both original handles are complete and functional. Chest probably had some original strapping that is no longer there. All original large brass studs are present except for one on top in back. Dimensions are approx 26" W x 16" H x 16" D.
